Across that vast, boundless continent, lies a nation known to the world as Shenglan. In the past, this nation was a land of abundance and prosperity, its land fertile and its produce plentiful. Its people lived a peaceful and happy life, each able to work and live in peace and contentment.

However, fate is always full of variables, and no one can predict what will happen in the future. One day, a natural disaster suddenly struck without warning, like a ferocious beast, ruthlessly tearing apart this once peaceful and tranquil land.

That terrible drought lasted for two full years! During this long period, the earth gradually dried up and cracked, like deep wounds, which was shocking to the sight.

The crops that should have been thriving now failed, leaving only desolate and dead fields. With food becoming extremely scarce, famine spread like a plague, and countless families faced the threat of starvation and death.

One of the protagonists of our story, Yue Youyou, lives in Liuxi Village, an inconspicuous small village located on the border of Shenglan Country.

She was once an innocent and carefree girl, immersed in joy all day long. However, this catastrophic drought completely changed the trajectory of her life.

In this catastrophe, she tragically lost both her beloved parents, leaving her alone and helpless. To survive, Yue Youyou had no choice but to resolutely embark on a journey full of unknowns and dangers.

In this large and chaotic group of refugees, Yue Youyou met another protagonist, Chen Huyi, by chance.

Chen Juyi was a young man who had come from a distant land. His hometown had also been ravaged by the terrible drought. In order to survive, he had traveled here with his elderly grandmother.

From the moment they met, Yue Youyou and Chen Huyi decided to travel together. On this thorny road of escape, they relied on and supported each other.

During the day, the sun was scorching and the heat was unbearable, but they still gritted their teeth, dragged their already exhausted bodies, and moved forward step by step with difficulty.

Whenever night falls, it becomes pitch black and the cold wind blows, they will find a relatively safe corner, snuggle together, and use each other's body temperature to resist the biting cold.

Despite the uncertain future, they always have a desire for life and a vision of a better life in the future.

Along the way, they witnessed countless heartbreaking scenes, each of which was deeply engraved in their hearts. All they saw along the way was desolation and despair.

Some people, having endured hunger for a long time, were extremely weak and eventually could not hold on. They collapsed on the roadside and fell asleep forever. Others, in order to compete for the meager food resources, did not hesitate to fight and risk their lives, and ultimately ended up with a miserable end and lost their lives.

Yue Youyou and Chen Huyi struggled forward in this tragic scene. They snuggled up to each other and carefully avoided the fierce disputes.

They clung to each other and the little precious food they had left, as if it was their last hope of survival.

Finally, after a long journey, they arrived at a seemingly peaceful town.

They had thought that this place could be a temporary haven for them, where they could find some relief and rest their exhausted bodies and minds.

However, when they stepped into the town, they were shocked to find that this place had also been ruthlessly swallowed by famine, and the streets and alleys were crowded with hungry people with pale faces, skinny bodies and empty eyes.

With no other choice, they could only drag their heavy steps and continue on their unknown journey, silently praying in their hearts that they could find a place to settle down as soon as possible.

As time went on, Chen Juyi's elderly grandmother's health deteriorated. Her already frail body became even more fragile under the torment of the famine, and her condition deteriorated further.

Yue Youyou was extremely anxious and racked her brains to find food and life-saving herbs in order to save the old woman's life.

But even so, my grandmother's condition continued to deteriorate and showed no signs of improvement.

On that bitterly cold night, the icy moonlight cast a shadow on the ground, illuminating his grandmother's pale face. Chen Huyi stayed by her bedside, watching helplessly as the flame of his loved one's life gradually died out.

At that moment, endless sorrow surged into his heart like a tide, making him feel like dying. However, reason told him that he must not indulge in sorrow at this moment. If he did not move on, the same tragic ending would be waiting for them.

So, holding back his tears, Chen Huyi packed his bag, took Yue Youyou's hand, and braved the biting cold wind, once again embarking on the road of escape with an uncertain future.

Yue Youyou and Chen Huyi supported each other and continued to move forward.

They looked around in confusion, and all they saw was endless wilderness and winding roads. They had no idea where their future would lie, nor did they know how many hardships and dangers they would have to go through, or how long they would have to travel before they could find a glimmer of hope.

However, even in such a desperate situation, they always hold on to an unshakable belief deep in their hearts - they must survive tenaciously no matter what!

On this day, as the two men were dragging their exhausted bodies slowly forward, suddenly a group of vicious bandits appeared in front of them like hungry wolves.

These robbers had ferocious looks on their faces. Without saying a word, they rushed straight towards Yue Youyou and Chen Huyi and took away the little food and meager belongings they had on them.

Not only that, one of the robbers even beat Chen Huyi ruthlessly, causing him to fall to the ground with serious injuries. Facing this group of brutal robbers, Yue Youyou was terrified, but she did not let fear defeat her.

On the contrary, she gritted her teeth and tried her best to stay by Chen Huyi's side, using her weak body to resist the attacks of the bandits.

At this moment, her eyes revealed endless fear, but more of it was burning with raging anger.

Fortunately, at this critical moment, a caravan passing by discovered the situation in time. The caravan members acted quickly and fought fiercely with the bandits without fear.

After a thrilling battle, they finally managed to repel the bandits and drive them away. Yue Youyou and Chen Huyi were overwhelmed with emotion after being rescued, and expressed their deep gratitude to the caravan with tears in their eyes.

The leader of this caravan was a kind-hearted man. When he saw Yue Youyou and Chen Huyi in such a miserable state, he felt pity for them.

So, he generously took out some precious food and clean drinking water and handed them to them, and kindly told them: "Go straight along this road, and there is a prosperous and bustling city not far away."

"From what I understand, there might be a government-run relief station there that can provide you with the necessary assistance. There should also be plenty of job opportunities in the city. If you're lucky, you might be able to settle down there and start a new life."

Hearing this, Yue Youyou and Chen Huyi felt as if they had seen a ray of light in the darkness, and their hearts, which had been close to despair, were once again rekindled with hope. After expressing their gratitude repeatedly, they set out on their journey to the unknown city with full expectations...

After several days of arduous journey, they finally arrived at the city. Although the city had also been affected by the drought, the situation was better than they had imagined. They found a part-time job in the city. Although it was hard work, at least they could fill their stomachs.

Although life in the city was tough, Yue Youyou and Chen Huyi grew closer and closer. They went through ups and downs together, and their feelings gradually grew stronger.

However, the good times didn't last. The drought worsened, and food began to run out in the city. Jobs became increasingly difficult to find, and prices soared. Yue Youyou and Chen Huyi were once again in dire straits.

They decided to leave the city and continue looking for a new way out. During their journey, they met a kind farmer who told them that there was a rich land in the south that was not affected by the drought.

Yue Youyou and Chen Huyi decided to head south. It was a long and difficult journey, but their hearts were full of hope.

After several months of travel, they finally arrived in the south. It was indeed a fertile land with thriving crops and prosperous people.

Yue Youyou and Chen Huyi settled down here and began to rebuild their lives. They rented a piece of land, planted crops, and lived a peaceful and happy life.

Years later, they often recalled those days of fleeing famine with deep emotion. They knew that it was that difficult experience that made them cherish their current happy life even more.
