Star Journey: Destiny Returns
Chapter 66: Secret Bamboo Forest, Trial in the Wind
Bidding farewell to the sacred tree on the lonely peak, Yunxuan and Yaoyue set out for their next stop, as indicated by the star map: a hidden bamboo forest. Legend has it that within this forest grows a unique species of bamboo shoot known as the "Wind-Singing Bamboo Shoot." These shoots are said to possess the power to sense the sound of the wind, allowing those who consume them to listen to the rhythms of nature, thereby enhancing their understanding of the laws of nature and even revealing secrets hidden within the wind's whispers. However, the forest is surrounded by mysterious barriers, forcing those who attempt to enter to undergo a test of the wind. Only those who pass can enter the depths of the forest and find the Wind-Singing Bamboo Shoot.
Yunxuan clearly saw the route instructions on the star map. He pointed to a small path and said with a firm gaze, "The bamboo forest road should be here. We have experienced too many trials along the way, and the trial of wind will definitely not be easy."
Yao Yue smiled slightly, her eyes showing confidence: "Whatever the test is, we are ready. Let us experience the test of the wind."
The entrance to the bamboo forest was deep and secluded, its layers of green bamboo seemingly absorbing all the light. The surroundings were dark and silent, with only the gentle rustling of bamboo leaves echoing softly in the wind. The two men stepped in side by side, and immediately felt a chill penetrate their clothes. The cold wind from the bamboo forest seemed to have a spirit, swirling around them, constantly observing and testing their will.
The sound of the wind gradually grew sharper, as if countless whispers were echoing in my ears, sometimes far away, sometimes near, making me feel confused. Yao Yue frowned and whispered, "This wind seems to have a confusing power, trying to disturb our minds."
Yunxuan nodded, concentrating his mind and focusing his spiritual energy on his ears, trying to block out the disturbing whispers. However, the wind grew increasingly rapid, like invisible blades, piercing his defenses and striking the deepest fear in his heart.
At this moment, Yaoyue suddenly chanted a spell, and gentle spiritual power instantly condensed at her fingertips, forming a barrier that blocked out the strange force in the wind. She gently patted Yunxuan's shoulder and comforted him, "Feel it with your heart and accept the baptism of the wind. Resistance will only make it stronger."
Yunxuan took a deep breath and slowly relaxed, releasing his control over his spiritual energy and completely opening his mind to the sound of the wind around him. Sure enough, as he relaxed, the strange whispers gradually subsided, and the sound of the wind became much gentler, as if it had become an invisible mentor, conveying the voice of heaven and earth to him.
The path deep in the bamboo forest twisted and turned, its shadows swaying gently in the wind, as if leading them to an unknown destination. After walking for a while, Yunxuan and Yaoyue found that the road under their feet gradually became blurred. The ground was no longer solid, but seemed to be shrouded in mist. Stepping into it was like stepping into an illusory world.
Yao Yue looked at the scene before her and whispered, "This fog seems to be a checkpoint. Perhaps it's another test for us."
As they pondered, soft footsteps echoed through the mist. As the footsteps approached, several figures gradually emerged from the fog. They were blurry, yet exuded a familiar aura. Yunxuan's eyes widened, surprised to discover they were his family and friends. Their eyes held resentment, as if blaming him for his departure and indifference.
"Yunxuan, why did you leave us and take risks alone? Is your family worthless to you?" The illusions asked in a low voice, their words full of accusations.
Yunxuan's heart rippled, his throat tightening, making it difficult to respond. He knew these were mere illusions, but the emotions deep within him were stirred, shaking his resolve. But at that moment, Yaoyue gently grasped his hand and whispered, "Don't be fooled by illusions. These are merely tests from your inner demon."
Yaoyue's words were like a wake-up call. Yunxuan took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and silently said to himself: "I have chosen my own path, and I will not be easily bound by the past." With this firm will, the illusion gradually blurred and turned into invisible smoke that dissipated in the bamboo forest.
Before Yaoyue, several familiar figures also appeared. They were old acquaintances from her orphanage. Their gazes were cold and lonely, as if condemning Yaoyue's indifference and alienation. With resentful voices, they asked her, "Yaoyue, you've long been accustomed to loneliness. Why open your heart to others? No one will truly understand you."
Yao Yue's heart was beating fast, but she quickly suppressed the slight hesitation and whispered, "Perhaps loneliness is my inevitable fate, but I am no longer afraid of it." She stared at the illusions with a firm gaze and walked past them without hesitation.
As the two of them crossed the illusion, the fog around them gradually dissipated, and the view before them suddenly became clear. They were now in the middle of an open bamboo forest. In the center of the clearing, a cluster of emerald green bamboo shoots swayed in the breeze, and a faint fragrance wafted through the air.
"This is the Fengyin bamboo shoot," Yunxuan exclaimed softly, his eyes filled with awe. These bamboo shoots were like spirits of nature, emitting a tranquil aura that seemed to guide people to listen to the mysteries of heaven and earth.
Yaoyue approached the bamboo shoot cautiously, gently caressing its emerald green shell. The moment she touched the shoot, a crisp breeze suddenly rang in her ears. The sound seemed to come from the distant world, carrying a gentle power that made her feel the rhythm and movement of the wind.
Yunxuan and Yaoyue each plucked a handful of Fengyin bamboo shoots, carefully placing them into their spiritual instruments, feeling a sense of satisfaction and reverence at the harvest. Just then, a strong wind blew through the bamboo forest again, rustling the leaves as if celebrating their harvest.
However, their journey was far from over. As soon as they stepped out of the bamboo forest, the star map flickered again, and the light guided them towards a farther destination.
"Our journey has just begun. Behind every delicious taste, it seems to be calling us to move on." Yunxuan murmured, with undying hope burning in his eyes.
Yao Yue smiled calmly and said, "No matter what challenges lie ahead, this is our inevitable choice. Let's go. The next stop awaits our exploration."
