Long River Eternity

Chapter 216 The Cause of the Beast Tide

Lin Ding and Wei Wu walked towards the giant pythons, passing by the two winged rats that Wei Wu had just shot down from the air. At this time, the two winged rats collapsed to the ground, looking dazed, as if they had already fainted.

Wei Wu stepped forward and kicked one of the winged rats, sending it rolling on the ground several times. He then shouted, "Stop playing dead! Get up! You are all Yuheng Realm monsters after all. I only hit you once. If you keep playing dead, I will kill you for real!"

Before he finished speaking, the two winged rats immediately got up in panic, crawled to their knees in front of the two men, trembling all over, and begged, "We know we were wrong. Please let us go. We won't dare to do it again next time."

Their attitude perfectly demonstrates their cowardice.

"Just lie down obediently. I have some questions to ask you later." Lin Ding said calmly.

Then, he and Wei Wu walked towards the other leaders, first arriving before the black, two-headed python that was issuing the orders. It was already on its last legs, its death seemingly only a matter of time. Even so, its eyes still gleamed with resentment and anger as it stared intently at the two of them.

Lin Ding watched as the blood gushed out of its mouth, and it was obviously unable to speak. He was about to turn around and let it fend for itself, but he didn't expect its body to slowly begin to emit light.

"Damn it, it's already like this, and you're still thinking about self-destructing?" Wei Wu frowned and sent out a wave of energy towards the only remaining head of the black python. The head shattered and the light on its body gradually dimmed.

Next, the two checked the conditions of the remaining leaders one by one, and found that they had already died, so they returned to the two winged rats.

"Tell the truth, why did you launch this beast tide?" Lin Ding asked coldly.

"I don't know either. It's the beast tide organized by the two-headed black python. We just followed it." One of the black winged mice said cautiously, his eyes wandering.

"You're still lying, aren't you? You don't know anything, but you bring your army of rats to follow it and launch a beast tide? I advise you to tell the truth and don't let us do it ourselves." Wei Wu threatened viciously.

"I really don't know. I only know that we were heading east. We have been preparing for more than a month to launch this beast tide. Generally, the city here cannot withstand a beast tide of this scale, so there is no danger. We didn't ask in detail. Anyway, following the black python has always brought us great rewards. We didn't expect to hit a wall this time." Black Rat said with regret on his face.

"Yes, we are also forced by those giant pythons. If we listen to them, we can get some benefits. If we don't listen to them, we may even lose our lives. We have no choice, just let us go." Another gray mouse also begged for mercy loudly.

Lin Ding frowned and suddenly swung the spear in his hand, chopping towards the black rat's head.

The black rat was horrified and crawled to the side, narrowly avoiding Lin Ding's fatal blow, with fear on his face.

A deep crack was split in the ground. Even Wei Wu was startled by Lin Ding's sudden attack and looked at him in confusion.

Lin Ding sneered, "Stop pretending! If I hadn't seen you two take refuge behind those giant pythons during the explosion, I'd have been fooled. If you were forced to do this as you say, and dared to use them as shields, aren't you afraid of retaliation afterwards?"

The two winged rats looked at each other, then suddenly attacked and pounced on Lin Ding.

Lin Ding was prepared and retreated instantly.

Before the two winged rats could even get a meter away, Wei Wu appeared before them. His right hand transformed into a dragon claw, and he punched the black rat, sending it flying backwards. He then launched a ball of energy in its direction. Before the ball could even hit the black rat, Wei Wu raised his leg and kicked the gray rat to the ground, stomping on it so hard that the ground beneath it collapsed.

Only then could be heard in the distance the sounds of black rats hitting the mountain wall and energy balls exploding.

"You dare to launch a sneak attack? You think I'm dead?" Wei Wu said angrily.

The gray rat, crushed by Wei Wu's feet, spat out several mouthfuls of blood, its gaze fixed squarely on the direction the black rat had flown. As the smoke and dust from the explosion cleared, the black rat's entire body was embedded in the mountain wall, silent and lifeless, its fate unknown.

Seeing this, the gray mouse trembled all over and begged for mercy: "I'll tell you, I'll tell you, don't kill me!"

Wei Wu glanced at Lin Ding, and Lin Ding signaled him to let the gray mouse go.

Wei Wu then retracted his foot, and the gray rat once again prostrated itself before the two men, saying in a trembling voice, "Over a month ago, a large amount of spiritual energy gushed out from the east, lasting for a whole day. Even now, if you carefully sense it, you can still find that the spiritual energy in the east is richer than in other directions."

Lin Ding felt it silently and found that the spiritual energy in the east was indeed more abundant.

The gray rat continued, "The black rat went to investigate and located the specific area where the spiritual energy was gushing out. However, there was a powerful Heavenly Power Realm demon beast entrenched there, so it didn't dare to investigate further. So, it returned and summoned all the demon beasts in our area to launch this beast tide."

After listening to Gray Rat's narration, Wei Wu looked at Lin Ding and asked doubtfully, "Could it be that there is also a spirit summoning array like the one under Zhongzhou City?"

"It's very likely, but we can't rule out the influence of other factors. Just in case, we have to hurry and take a look. If it really is a soul-summoning formation, if it is destroyed by the monster beast in the Tianquan realm, Yang An and his team's spiritual energy revival plan will be delayed again." Lin Ding pondered for a moment and made a firm decision.

Wei Wu glanced at the gray rat suspiciously and frowned, "Is this rat trying to trick us again?"

Lin Ding smiled slightly and said, "It's easy. Just take it with you."

He waved his hand, and suddenly a chain appeared on the gray rat's neck. The chain had several thin spikes on it, which pierced into the gray rat's meridians and acupoints, quickly blocking the energy in its body.

Afterwards, Lin Ding brought the gray rat to the front line of the defense against the beasts and said to it, "Tell your men to stop and retreat."

The gray squirrel responded with a long, sharp whistle that echoed in the air. The other mice in the herd immediately stopped attacking, cast doubtful glances, and began to retreat.

Seeing this, the remaining snake demons in Kaiyang Realm realized that the situation was hopeless, so they stopped attacking and retreated behind the rat.

As the beast tide receded, the people on the defense line finally breathed a sigh of relief. Like deflated balloons, they slumped to the ground, gasping for breath, their hearts filled with exhaustion and relief.

Liu Xianxian and Feng Hao immediately went to greet Lin Ding upon his return. Behind him, the team leader, beaming, approached him, praising him in a resounding voice, "Hello, Team Leader Lin! I'm Yao Tianguang, Team Leader of Team 1 of the Land Expedition Team. You truly deserve to be called the descendant of a divine envoy. I've heard of your great name since back in Zhongzhou City. In less than an hour, you managed to neutralize this beast tide. It's truly admirable!"

Lin Ding waved his hand slightly and responded modestly, "Team Leader Yao, you are too kind. If it weren't for you holding the line, I wouldn't be able to go straight to Huanglong and face those leaders."
