Chapter 23: Light in the Darkness

The prince's fall plunged the room into a momentary silence. Only the heartbeats of Ling Xuan and Yun Mengting echoed like heavy hammers in the air, as if the echoes of the duel still lingered in their ears. Ling Xuan gripped his sword tightly, his face dripping with sweat, the hair on his forehead gleaming faintly. He knew that while this battle had defeated the prince, it was only the beginning of their adventure. The unknown that lay ahead was still daunting.

"Hurry, we have to leave! The prince's men could arrive at any moment!" Yun Mengting broke the silence, her tone tinged with urgency and determination. Her eyes gleamed with an unyielding light, like stars twinkling in the darkness.

Ling Xuan nodded, quickly leaning over to pick up the fallen sword, mentally pondering his next move. "We can't hesitate any longer," he said, his eyes determined, trying to remain calm. "We need to find a safe escape route."

The two climbed cautiously along the dark passage. The gravel beneath their feet made a soft sound in the silence, as if telling of the sorrows of the past. Ling Xuan's mind flashed with memories of the prince, the former classmate who had now become their enemy. In this moment, he began to reflect: Was the prince merely corrupted by power, or was there a deeper darkness behind him?

"This place should be safe for now." Yun Mengting finally breathed a sigh of relief. Looking around, she realized that this courtyard was secluded and ancient. "In any case, we need to think carefully about what to do next."

Ling Xuan peered around and spotted an ancient stone sculpture in the center of the courtyard, its surface etched with the marks of time. His gaze was drawn to the statue, as if it held some kind of secret. The faint moonlight cast a mysterious aura upon it.

"Come and look at this!" he whispered, approaching the stone sculpture and noticing something different about its base. Ling Xuan leaned over and gently tapped the base, revealing a crack.

"What is this?" Yun Mengting also came over, with a glint of surprise in her eyes.

"Maybe it's a secret passage." Ling Xuan's heart suddenly surged with excitement. The potential hope was like a clear light in the darkness, illuminating their future.

"Let's go in and take a look." Yun Mengting took a deep breath, made up her mind, took Ling Xuan's hand, and walked into the opened gap together.

The passage was dark and damp, its walls covered in thick moss. As they descended, they could almost hear the echo of their own heartbeats. Deeper, they arrived at a spacious basement, surrounded by long-forgotten scrolls and maps. The air was filled with the warm fragrance of vanilla, inviting them to touch the sediment of history.

"Is this the palace's archives?" Yun Mengting whispered, as if waking from a dream. She approached a scroll and gently traced the writing on it with her fingertips. "These record the glory and secrets of the past."

"We must study these scrolls carefully." Ling Xuan's gaze was as firm as fire, his thoughts filled with a desire for the truth. "Perhaps they contain deeper secrets about the prince."

As they flipped through the yellowed scrolls, an indescribable power surged within Ling Xuan as they meticulously observed them. He sensed that this palace was not merely a symbol of power, but a repository of history, recording countless stories of life and death. Each past event was like a ray of light, guiding them to understand the prince's obsession and pain.

"This... this is a file about the prince." Yun Mengting's voice was filled with shock and uneasiness. "His family has been pursuing an ancient power for generations, the legendary 'Secret Book of Blood'."

"The Secret Codex of Blood?" Ling Xuan was slightly stunned, and a scene of desire and destruction emerged in his mind. "What kind of power is that?"

"That is the power that controls life and death. It grants immortality, yet also brings endless destruction." Yun Mengting's voice gradually deepened, as if unable to suppress the fear in her heart. "This is the power the prince has always dreamed of, but it is also the source of his ultimate downfall."

Ling Xuan's brow furrowed, the heaviness in his heart growing more palpable. The conspiracy before them was not only a trial for the prince, but also concerned the future of the entire kingdom. "This power is undoubtedly deadly. We must stop him and prevent such a thing from happening again."

"Then, how can the prince obtain this 'Secret Book of Blood'?" Yun Mengting continued to ask, with determination flashing in her eyes.

At that moment, a pattern caught their attention. Ling Xuan pointed to a drawing in the corner, feeling a connection to the secrets leading to the secret chamber. "Look, that drawing seems to show a sign of a hidden chamber. Perhaps that's where the prince gains his power."

Yun Mengting's eyes trembled as she realized the gravity of the situation. "Then we must find that secret room and stop the prince's plot!"

"That's right!" Ling Xuan's gaze grew more resolute, as if he were facing an impending storm. However, they all knew in their hearts that the enemy lurking in the darkness had not yet dissipated. Courage and faith were their only remaining weapons.

"Let's go. Time waits for no one." Yun Mengting nodded vigorously, confidence surging in her heart. She took a deep breath, like a drop of water in dry soil, drawing strength to move forward.

The two men once again entered the dark passage hand in hand. Although the road was unknown and dangerous, the flame of hope had already been ignited in their hearts. On this road to destiny, the darkness was dispelled by their courage, and the flickering light was like thousands of stars, guiding them towards the adventure of the future.

No one can predict what awaits them next, but one thing is certain: as long as they have faith in their hearts, they can overcome all challenges and reveal the truth hidden in the abyss of power.
