Rebirth of His Royal Highness Prince Chenghu
Chapter 201 The Prince's Birthday (Part )
Chenghu smiled in response, his eyes casually scanning the crowd. Suddenly, his brow furrowed slightly, as if sensing something unusual. He'd noticed a probing, unfriendly gaze at the table, and following his instincts, he saw it was Yinsi. Chenghu pondered inwardly, but remained expressionless.
The singing and dancing continued. Yinreng leaned close to Chenghu and whispered, "Brother, my ninth brother seems to be a little abnormal today." Chenghu nodded slightly.
Soon, the dancers left and the servants brought in plates of exquisite snacks.
At this time, Yinsi stood up, saluted Chenghu and said, "Your Highness the Crown Prince, I have recently obtained a rare item and would like to present it to Your Highness to cheer you up." After that, he ordered someone to present an exquisite box.
Chenghu was alert in his heart, but still had a smile on his face, and said, "Oh? Ninth brother, you are so thoughtful. Show it to me." Everyone's eyes were instantly focused on the box, wondering what Yinsi was up to.
The attendant took the box and respectfully placed it on the table before Chenghu. Chenghu slowly opened the box, revealing a transparent jade pendant within. The jade was smooth and beautifully carved. But Chenghu knew Yinsi wouldn't be so kind. He examined the pendant carefully and discovered tiny symbols engraved on its back. While seemingly ordinary, it held a strange quality.
Chenghu looked up at Yinsi and asked with a smile, "Ninth brother, this item does look extraordinary. What makes it so special?" Yinsi replied respectfully, "Your Highness, this jade pendant is said to have magical powers that can ensure safety and prosperity. I present it to Your Highness."
Chenghu was playing with the jade pendant when his grip suddenly loosened, and it was about to fall to the ground and shatter. Yinsi's face changed, and he wanted to step forward to stop him but stopped. The attendant beside Chenghu quickly caught the jade pendant.
Seeing this, Chenghu laughed and said, "Ninth brother, you're so nervous. It seems this jade pendant still holds many secrets. But today is my birthday, and I don't want to spoil the fun. Ninth brother, please take it back." Yinsi had no choice but to agree, a flicker of resentment in his eyes as he sat down silently. Chenghu secretly decided to send someone to investigate the conspiracy behind the jade pendant.
After the banquet, Yinreng and Yinzhen did not leave but went to the study with Chenghu and immediately summoned a trusted guard. "Go and find out who the Ninth Prince Yinsi has been associating with recently, especially those quacks and sorcerers." The guard took the order and left.
Yinzhen: "This old ninth brother is eyeing my brother's position as crown prince, right?"
Yinreng: "Who wants my brother to be my mother's eldest son, the crown prince, while my mother is a concubine? Isn't this just trying to climb the social ladder?"
Cheng Hu: "Baocheng and Xiaowu, don't worry. I, your brother, will not fall for his tricks. He is still too young to bring me down. Well, it's getting late. Don't keep your two younger brothers and sisters waiting."
A few days later, a guard arrived with a report: "Your Highness, we've discovered that the Ninth Prince has been meeting with a mysterious Taoist priest recently. He's skilled in sorcery and it's said that the jade pendant was enchanted by him." Chenghu's eyes darkened. "He certainly has bad intentions. What is the purpose of that magic?"
Guard: "I heard that if Your Highness wears the jade pendant for more than three days, his mind will become disturbed and he may do something immoral."
Chenghu snorted, "Yinsi is so cruel!" Then, he hatched a plan. He deliberately spread the rumor that he loved the jade pendant and regretted returning it. Yinsi was overjoyed and offered it again. Chenghu pretended to accept it with joy, but secretly gave the jade pendant to a dog. Within three days, the dog went berserk and mad. Chenghu used this opportunity to expose Yinsi's conspiracy. Kangxi was furious and severely punished Yinsi. Chenghu successfully averted the crisis, and the crown prince's position was further consolidated.
