Spy Wars: Strong Agents Who Are Ruthless and Talk Little
Chapter 539: Can't Relax
"What exactly do you want to say?" He almost squeezed out these words from between his teeth, and the panic in his heart surged into his heart like a tide.
"You're wrong." The man slowly took a step closer, looking directly at Su Ming. His tone was not agitated, but rather carried a deep calm. "You weave the truth yourself. You've been searching for the 'correct' answer, but in reality, every clue, every event, is a trap set for you. What you call a mystery is nothing more than a maze constructed in your mind. No one can give you the true answer except yourself."
Su Ming's breathing suddenly quickened. He felt everything before him distort, as if all the logical reasoning he had always believed in had collapsed into ruins. All his thoughts had reached a dead end, and his heart was in a state of confusion, like a storm-swept sea, with turbulent waves and no harbor to anchor.
He took a deep breath, and with difficulty focused his thoughts, staring intently at the man, as if confronting him, trying to find a clue to the answer in those eyes. However, he found it increasingly difficult to understand the man in front of him. All his intuition and rationality became increasingly blurred during this conversation.
At this moment, Su Ming suddenly realized a problem - Zheng Yaoxian was missing.
He quickly turned around and glanced around, only to find that the figure he had always believed to be waiting in the corner had disappeared. Zheng Yaoxian, who had initially guided him, seemed to have vanished silently into thin air. At that moment, Su Ming's heart began to beat again. He instinctively felt that everything seemed to be becoming increasingly complicated, as if everyone and everything were secretly connected, making it impossible for him to see the whole picture.
"Zheng Yaoxian..." He murmured subconsciously, with a hint of barely perceptible panic in his voice.
However, the moment he turned around, the stranger had vanished. The entire street corner was deserted, leaving only the wind drifting in the air, carrying a hint of coldness.
Su Ming's heart surged with anxiety once again. He didn't know where he was now, where he stood. The mentor he had always relied on seemed to have evaporated into thin air, vanishing without a trace. And the stranger before him, like an invisible thread, quietly led him towards the unknown abyss.
Su Ming walked along the deserted streets, his steps growing heavier. His heart felt as if an invisible hand were gripping it, making it almost impossible to breathe. The coolness of the air made his skin feel tight, and his mind was in a state of confusion. The stranger's words still echoed in his ears, like a thin needle piercing every nerve in his body.
"The truth is what you weave..." The man's voice lingered in his mind like an echo, carrying an inescapable sense of oppression, like a prophetic reminder. He knew he was no longer a simple investigator, but a person caught in an inescapable vortex. Every step, every decision, took him further away from the truth.
He suddenly stopped, the street before him suddenly becoming strangely unfamiliar, the surroundings blurring. That man, had he really left? Where was Zheng Yaoxian? How could he have suddenly vanished? Each question hammered at his mind, leaving him unable to calm down.
He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, but the unease grew stronger. Yes, he was afraid. This feeling wasn't from an external threat, but from a deep-seated fear. The feeling of being manipulated, like invisible strings binding every nerve, made him unable to extricate himself. All reasoning, all calculations, seemed to lose meaning in this moment. He became like a chess piece being manipulated at will, unable to see the truth behind himself.
"Something's wrong..." He bit his lower lip and muttered softly. Everything in front of him was gradually shrouded in a layer of fog, and even where he was became unclear.
His steps began to slow again, each one like crossing an invisible boundary, moving further and further away. That person had vanished so quickly, as if they had never appeared. That moment of eye contact, that deep gaze, had already been seared into his heart, like a dream, unreal yet terrifyingly real.
He rummaged through his pockets and pulled out a cigarette, his hand trembling slightly. The flames pierced the still air, and the smoke drifted with a cool breeze, carrying a hint of an unfamiliar scent. Su Ming took a deep breath, as if trying to dispel the pervasive tension. However, the smoke in his lungs brought no relief. Instead, it made him realize more clearly that the situation he faced was far more complicated than he had initially imagined.
He lowered his head, watching the ember of his cigarette butt blaze faintly between his fingertips, his mind still a tangle of thoughts. "Zheng Yaoxian, what role does he play in this?" The question tightened around Su Ming's neck like a chain, preventing him from relaxing. He became increasingly aware that Zheng Yaoxian's disappearance wasn't accidental, but rather part of the game.
"What is he hiding?"
Su Ming stubbed out his cigarette on the ground and stomped on it twice, his gaze fixed on the lonely street in the distance. One person had completely vanished, while the other had mysteriously vanished as well. Su Ming suddenly realized that he had no control over these circumstances. Every time he tried to get closer to the truth, some force seemed to push him further and further in a vague direction, leaving him completely lost.
He decided to go back. At least he knew that returning to that little hut, to the traces Zheng Yaoxian had left behind, might reveal some clues he had missed. However, his heart grew heavier, and the oppression within him weighed down like a gloomy cloud, almost suffocating him. With every step, he felt an inexplicable chill and loneliness approach. The mysterious stranger, Zheng Yaoxian, himself—all of it swirled in his mind, converging into a vast fog, from which he felt trapped, unable to find a way out.
He walked faster and faster, as if trying to shake off the shadows that were following him closely. His steps became more and more rapid, and his heartbeat became more and more rapid and uneasy. However, no matter how fast he walked, when he returned to the cabin, he could still clearly hear the voice deep in his heart, the voice that made him unable to calm down -
"You've been involved."
