Oritis in the world of Detective Conan
Chapter 46 People in the Manor
Conan had just recovered from the stomach cramp and began to observe the manor impatiently.
Yes, it is exactly the same as what you see in the "Cocoon" game project. I wonder what it looks like inside.
The professor led Conan into the gate. Just as Haibara was about to follow, the fire investigator stopped her.
"Miss, you and that young gentleman are going to different places."
"Wait, where are you taking Haibara?" Conan became anxious when he saw that the two were about to be separated.
"Don't worry, I'm just taking her to see someone very important."
"Let's go, miss."
Huiyuan also responded to Conan: "Don't worry about me, you should take care of yourself more."
After saying that, the fire investigator took Haibara Ai in another direction.
The professor brought Conan to the lobby of Misty Villa, their final destination.
"Wait here for a moment. You can enter the hall when someone calls you in."
After saying that, the professor left.
Conan looked around the place. It was completely different from the layout in the "Cocoon" game. So was it a coincidence that the layout in the game was very similar to Delos Manor because it was based on Mr. Orpheus's script?
After a while, the door to the hall opened a crack, and a familiar female voice came from it.
"Is this Mr. Edogawa Conan? You can come in."
Conan hurried forward and opened the door to the hall.
The scene before him was unbelievable. Those... people? No, what were those "monsters"?
A rather long table, which looked to be used for playing some card games, was placed in the middle of the hall, and many strange creatures were sitting around the table.
On the leftmost chair sat a "man" composed entirely of minerals. He had short, slightly curly silver hair, with crystal-like minerals peeking out from it. One eye glowed blue, while the other was hidden beneath his hair. He wore a rather ornate suit with a large hole in his chest, the silver mineral core reflecting light. Next to him lay a pickaxe, also composed of silver ore. A red eyeball swiveled in the center of the pick, observing him. Conan also noticed that the ore man's left arm and leg appeared to be disconnected; it was unclear how they moved. (Stibnite)
Sitting in the second chair from the left was an even more hideous creature. It had the head of a lizard, a long, forked tongue emanating from its bloody mouth. It wore a white lab coat, its pockets stuffed with medical supplies, and trailed a long lizard tail. Its entire body was covered in strange blue crystals. (Crystals)
The figure sitting in the third chair was familiar. Though his attire had changed, Conan could recognize him as the Night's Watchman. Gone were his tattered robes, replaced by a rich red, gold, and black ensemble, a scarlet cape draped behind him. Atop his head rested a sun-like crown, and in his hand wielded a silver-black axe. He noticed Conan's gaze and gave a rather arrogant grin. (Eclipse)
The second-to-last chair held the queen I'd met at the Dusk Villa. She was gracefully slicing a piece of cake and handing it to the night watchman on a small plate. The familiar female voice I'd just heard must have come from her.
Sitting on the last chair was the crow man who appeared in the Dusk Villa. He tapped the table lightly and looked at Conan with his head tilted.
Conan clenched his fists and looked at these people. He didn't know what kind of human experiments had been done on the first two to make them look like that. The Night Watchman had seen them at the Haido Hotel, and Madam Red and Nightmare had conducted that "drug experiment" at the Dusk Annex.
How did these people become like that? Was it human experimentation or some special drug? Conan's mind kept popping up various ideas, but no matter how he looked at them, he couldn't grasp the most crucial clue.
"Maybe your mind is confused, little detective. You can ask us three questions and we will help you solve them." Mrs. Red tapped the wall of the cup gently with a spoon, pulling Conan back from his confused state.
"Who is the owner of your manor?"
"We don't know that either. The owner of the manor always lets agents contact us." Nightmare answered this question.
"What is the purpose of your organization?"
"There is no specific purpose. Everyone who comes to the manor comes for their own interests. We gather in the manor to get what we need." Fool Gold answered this question.
"You have one last question, little detective." The evil lizard stuck out its tongue and hissed.
"I......"
"What kind of people are the members of the Oritis Organization?"
"This is really a complicated question." Nightmare supported his chin and thought for a while.
"The manor is a place where all kinds of people gather." The evil lizard tilted its head and looked at Conan.
"There are both evildoers and good people here. Some are loyal to their own interests, some are obsessed with revenge, some are eager for trial, and some hope for promotion." Madame Red put down her teacup.
"Some people were separated from their wives and children, some lost their families, some survived a disaster, and some died a violent death." The night watchman added.
"But the only thing that remains unchanged is that happy people will not come to the manor." Fool's Gold concluded.
Conan: "Happy people won't come to the manor? What does that mean?"
"You only have three chances. We are not obligated to answer you now." The evil lizard scratched the scales on its body a little impatiently.
"You probably invited me here not just to tell me this, this shouldn't be counted among the three questions." Conan crossed his arms.
"Oh, I invited you here to let you participate in a 'game'." The night watchman waved the axe in his hand.
"Do you want to play the dangerous 'game' like in 'Cocoon'?"
"Of course not. It's just a simple card game."
"You should have met Mr. Jack."
"Jack the Ripper? He was also in your organization? Impossible, that was so many years ago!"
"Who knows what the historical Ripper looked like? But I can assure you, this is indeed our 'Jack the Ripper'."
Madam Red clapped her hands, and Jack, dressed as a dealer (in Black Jack fashion), opened the door of the hall and walked in.
Conan:?!
Jack smiled at Conan and said, "Hello, little detective, do you remember me?"
"You're the Jack from the Cocoon game project? How is that even possible?"
"Oh, that one is me too. Although the character settings are the same, the subsequent plot of that game changes based on the player's choices."
"So, did you save that 'me'?"
Conan suddenly felt creepy. Although the Jack in front of him might not be the "Jack the Ripper" in history, he must have a dual personality just like the setting in the game, and now the "Ripper" personality should be dominant.
Therefore, in reality, there was no detective who discovered the truth and truly tried "Jack", and "Jack" went on a killing spree at the invitation of the manor.
The kind-hearted Mr. Jack who would repent for the Ripper's crimes and sacrifice his life to stop the Ripper must have disappeared long ago.
