Chapter 45: Burnt Pig

Chen Jie and his wife had no objection to this.

The trap was dug by Chen Jie and his eldest brother, and they carried the wild boar back together. Although the second brother did not contribute, the idea was thought up by his second sister-in-law, and the salt was also provided by his second sister-in-law.

Chen Qing hesitated for a moment and said, "I heard you put five or six pounds of salt into the pond. I'll have to pay for the salt separately from you."

"Brother, that's being too formal." Gao E refused directly. "If we don't contribute, we should at least contribute something else."

"If it weren't for the method you came up with, we wouldn't have achieved this result even if we put in the effort. How can we ask you to pay more money?" Chen Qing insisted.

"Brother, you have always helped us in the past, so please don't worry about it." Chen Ke refused.

Chen Qing wanted to say more.

"Second brother is right." Chen Jie said first, "If eldest brother makes such a fuss, it would be impolite."

Chen Qing glanced at Chen Jie, and Chen Jie didn't dare to speak.

For Chen Qing, helping Chen Ke is a family matter, and he cannot take advantage of his brother.

"That's settled then. Big brother and third brother will take the bus and go there early tomorrow," Chen Ke suggested.

"I'll stay here tonight." Chen Jie said immediately.

Those two wild boars would be sold for at least two taels of silver, so he had to keep an eye on them.

"Then big brother, go back and tell our parents that we will stay here tonight." Lei laughed.

Chen Qing thought about it and nodded. Leaving these three wild boars here would allow them to be taken care of in case anything happened.

After Chen Qing left, several people began to plan how to kill the little wild boar.

Although the wild boar was dead, they had never killed a pig before and didn't know what to do.

"The pig hair is too long. Can it be permed off?" Lei knew that pig hair could be permed off.

Gao E thought for a moment and said, "Go find some straw."

"What are you looking for straw for?" Lei was puzzled.

"I know a way. Roasting the pig with straw can remove all the hair," Gao E explained.

"That's a good idea. I'll go find it right away." Lei said and left.

Now it is autumn harvest time and all kinds of straw are piled up everywhere in the village, making it easy to find.

Bring the straw, spread it evenly on the surface of the pig's body, and then start burning.

The process was quick, and the strong smell of burnt hair spread. The pig was almost cooked, and the surface was a little charred.

"This, this..." Lei felt unable to eat it.

Gao E poured a bucket of warm water on it and said, "Put it on the wooden board and scrape it with a knife."

Lei placed the pig on a wooden board, doused it with warm water, and then began to scrape it.

Soon the slightly browned skin of the pig appeared on the surface, and there was a smell of meat.

"It really works." Gao E shaved even harder.

Chen Ke pretended to glance at his wife casually. He felt that his wife knew too much.

They have been married for ten years after all, why didn’t they notice it before?

Chen Jie was watching excitedly. Since the money from the sale of the two pigs was divided equally, this pig would most likely be divided equally as well. Even if his second brother's family asked for a little more, they would still get a lot.

Gao E shaved for a while and then Chen Jie took the knife and started shaving. The couple quickly finished shaving the pig.

"What's next?" Chen Jie had seen pigs being slaughtered before, but when it came to actually doing it, he had no idea how to start.

"Bring a big basin over here and cut it open." Gao E spread her hands.

Chen Jie hesitated.

"Oh, let me do it." Lei grabbed the knife.

Chen Jie smiled awkwardly and didn't compete with his wife for it. He couldn't win anyway.

The big wooden basin that Gao E bought was just in time for use.

Seeing Lei holding a knife and about to chop the pig's neck, Gao E hurriedly stopped her.

"Slice here." She cut across the midline of the pig's abdomen. "Don't go too deep, or you'll lacerate the internal organs. And be sure not to touch the pig's gallbladder."

Lei felt a little pressured when she heard her second sister-in-law say this. She gestured for a long time before slowly moving forward.

People rarely eat meat these days, so naturally they are not good at these things. Fortunately, Lei's hands were steady and he cut it open without any danger.

Then Gao E instructed her to separate the internal organs and taught her to cut the pork along the bone seams.

Chen Jie quietly approached his second brother and asked in a low voice: "Second brother, when did the second sister-in-law learn this?"

Even though my second sister-in-law came from a landlord's family and had some knowledge, a woman would never get involved in slaughtering pigs.

Chen Ke didn't know how Gao E knew how to butcher pigs: "Maybe she ate them so much before that she figured it out."

Chen Jie thought about it and this was the only explanation. He immediately felt a little emotional. It is good to have a good background. What you have seen since childhood is incomparable to others.

The pork was divided and put into the jars in the cave, and then the pig offal was cleaned.

Gao E planned to braise all the offal in a pot before dividing it, otherwise it would be difficult for them to deal with it when they took it back.

"Second sister-in-law, since we can kill pigs ourselves, we can make more money by selling the pork directly." Lei suggested.

"We're not specialized in this business. It's time-consuming and labor-intensive, and it might not sell well. We just need to make what we deserve."

Lei thought for a moment and nodded: "One should not be too greedy."

Gao E laughed.

It was already late when the two men finished processing the pig offal, so Chen Jie and his wife slept on the floor in the third cave.

After a busy day, I fell asleep quickly after lying down.

Chen Jie got up before it was completely light. Lei drove the car while Chen Jie went downstairs to find his elder brother. The two brothers prepared to sell the wild boar.

Jiang was suspicious when she saw the third son calling the eldest son away. She went back to the house and saw that the old man had woken up.

"Master, is the second son still busy?" Jiang knew that the courtyard wall had been built.

"The eldest brother said that no one has lived there for a long time and there are many wild animals, so we need to pile some thorns on the top of the wall. I asked him to pile some outside the wall as well." Chen Fansheng was still most concerned about the second brother.

"Why does the third son, who is so lazy and afraid to move, go to the second son's house every day?" Jiang thought it was abnormal.

"Those two are greedy, and the second son's wife is not one to save money. Maybe she has taken a fancy to the food at the second son's house."

Jiang thought about it and thought it was possible. Then she muttered, "If she eats the way she does, even if we have mountains of gold and silver at home, it won't be enough for her."

Over there, Chen Qing and Chen Jie had already driven to the city, but even those who were rushing to the city to sell fish had not yet set off.

After breakfast, Gao E prepared to braise the pig offal.

It just so happened that I still had a lot of spices left from the ones I bought for pickling fish.

"Oh, my second sister-in-law can also make braised food." Lei drooled as she spoke.

There is only one braised food shop in Maying Town. There is a big pot at the door. When the braised food is cooked and the lid is opened, all the children in Maying Town start drooling.

This is a very deep memory for Lei. Although her father would buy some for her when she was a child, she was still very greedy.

I heard that braised food is very particular and requires a ancestral braising soup, otherwise it is impossible to do this business.

Gao E smiled and said, "That's pretty simple."

Lei felt that it was not simple.

However, Gao E was a little embarrassed because she didn't have sugar color or dark soy sauce for coloring, so she had to give up. As long as the taste was good in the end, it was fine.

This made her plan to make some soy sauce by herself, and also make some fermented beans, so that there would be more flavor at home.
