Farming and reading family

Chapter 16 The Craftsman Arrives

Gao E actually doesn't have much resentment towards the Chen family.

He's just an ordinary country boy, so it's normal for him to have some minor flaws, but he's not a bad person at all.

"Pork can be stewed with chestnuts?" Chen Jie widened his eyes.

"Look how greedy you are! What can't be stewed with pork?" Lei said unhappily, "I'll help my second sister-in-law peel chestnuts."

Gao E was also very curious about how Lei peeled the chestnuts. She tried it last night, but the chestnuts either broke into pieces or couldn't be peeled open at all.

"My third brother and I will go cut some bamboo and make a fence." Chen Qing took the rope and machete.

"I'll go with you." Chen Ke said hurriedly.

"Forget it, second brother. You can't go into the mountains with these clothes. Besides, the craftsmen will be here soon, and the family can't be without a man to support them." Chen Jie said directly.

Chen Ke was a little embarrassed.

"Your second brother is a student, unlike you who gets a headache when talking about studying." Chen Qing looked at Chen Jie.

Chen Jie smiled foolishly.

Chen Ke couldn't insist: "Thank you for your hard work, big brother and third brother."

"I'm not used to you being so polite all of a sudden." Chen Jie said and left.

Gao E heard their conversation and asked, "Is there a bamboo forest here?"

"Yes." Lei said immediately, "It's just over a ridge."

Gao E glanced at the direction the boss and the others had left, and thought that although it was almost the end of autumn, she wondered if there were still any bamboo fungi.

If you have bamboo fungus, chicken stewed with bamboo fungus is simply delicious.

"Why is there such a big dead fish?" Lei saw a dead fish in the spring water on the side.

"I bought it yesterday." Gao E went over to take a look. "It was still alive when I bought it."

"Well! If the second sister-in-law wants to eat fish, just let the third brother catch it. Why waste this money?" Lei said generously.

"Is the third brother good at catching fish?" Gao E heard from Chen Ke that the fish were difficult to catch.

"Isn't that something I can easily grasp?" Lei was proud.

"Then why doesn't he catch fish and sell them?" Gao E was puzzled.

"Who should I sell it to? The villagers catch the fish themselves if they want to eat them, so no one buys them. City people will buy them, but the fish will die when they get to the city, and they are not worth much. If they keep running around like this every day, there will be no one to do the housework." Lei sighed.

Gao E thought about it and felt that these problems could be solved.

"Second sister-in-law wants me and the second brother to go catch it tonight. How much does Second sister-in-law want?"

Gao E looked at Lei suspiciously: "From what you said, you can have as much as you want?"

Lei smiled and said, "Not really. There's no problem with grabbing two baskets."

"Then grab a basket first." Gao E said uncertainly.

"Okay." Lei nodded.

Gao E saw that Lei was trying to open the chestnut shell with great force. His hands, which were often worked on, had thick nails and were rough, so the chestnut shell looked very thin.

"Can your father make blades?" Gao E suddenly asked.

Although Lei could peel the chestnuts, he was too slow.

"Yes, my father can fight for anything." Lei said this with some pride.

"Then ask your father to make a blade, and we'll make a tool for peeling chestnuts. It will be easier to peel chestnuts in the future."

Lei was stunned for a moment: "Is there a tool for peeling chestnuts?"

To be honest, Lei didn't like picking chestnuts either, as his fingertips would ache after a long time.

"Well, I'll draw it. When your father finishes making the blades, we can hire a carpenter and make a few then." Gao E said as she started to draw.

Lei sighed, saying that her second sister-in-law was worthy of being the wife of a scholar, and she even knew the tools to peel chestnuts.

Just as Gao E finished painting, two craftsmen came from outside.

Master Qin, a bricklayer, is from Bashang Village. He looks to be in his thirties, tall, with a long face covered with forehead wrinkles and dark skin.

Carpenter Master An is from He County. He dresses decently, has a medium build, a round face and shiny skin, but his forehead is also covered with wrinkles.

The two people also knew each other, and were brought here by Chen Fansheng.

It was Chen Jie who invited them. They thought that the Chen family's old house needed to be renovated, so they went to the Chen family's old house first.

Chen Ke came over and Chen Fansheng turned to leave. He hurriedly called out "Dad".

"I brought the two masters here for you. I have a lot of things to do at home." Chen Fansheng said and left.

Chen Ke was a little embarrassed.

Master Qin knew that Chen Xiucai's mansion had been sold, but he didn't expect that the family would move here.

"This place is nice." Master An saw Chen Ke embarrassedly turned around and looked around and said with a smile, "It's obvious that a noble person has lived here."

Master Qin laughed when he heard this: "Isn't it? When the Fish Head Dam was built, the nobles from the palace lived here. I heard they followed Taizu."

The two masters came to do business and were happy to say a few nice words.

"Excuse me, Masters." Chen Ke said as he let the people in.

Tables and chairs have been placed in front of the cave, with tea and peanuts on them. It is not shabby for farmers to entertain guests in this way.

The two felt relieved to see that the Chen family was well prepared. They were most afraid of encountering a host who was difficult to get along with.

Chen Ke took out the drawings they drew and showed them to the two masters. This was his idea, but as for how to do it specifically, it depended on the two masters.

"As expected of a scholar, your painting is excellent." Master An said without any mockery. "Do we need partitions for all three cave dwellings?"

Chen Ke looked at Gao E.

Gao E came over and said, "Since we are going to do it, let's do it right the first time."

Master An nodded: "That's a bit long."

"Here's what I think." Gao E sat down with the help of the table. "Our work here is definitely not as convenient as the master's. The master measures the dimensions, makes it, and then comes to assemble it."

Master An had done this before, and with his skills, he could do it too: "If something goes wrong..."

"He's a carpenter in his stamina and a blacksmith in his stamina. Besides, this is a cave. If anything goes wrong, we can just knock on the stone cave or buy some lime to patch it up. It won't be a problem." Gao E said with a smile.

Master An felt that Chen Xiucai's wife was a sensible person and nodded immediately.

"We just have to hurry. We've already moved here, and it's not a good idea to keep it open all the time." Gao E smiled apologetically.

Master An nodded: "Then let's discuss it."

"Thank you." Gao E said and got up to do other things.

Chen Ke took the two masters to look around the cave.

This cave is really nice.

Yang helped Gao E cook: "Did you eat it all in one meal?" She felt sorry looking at the three pounds of pork.

Even during the Chinese New Year, ordinary people cannot eat like this.

"There are a lot of people." That's what Gao E planned. "Besides, my eldest brother and third brother both do manual labor."

Yang was stunned for a moment: "We can just go back and eat it. You can save some of the fat from the meat. We have hired a craftsman and we have to make sure he eats well."

"That's impossible." Gao E refused directly. "You helped me for a long time and didn't even eat. How can we put our faces aside?"

"We are a family..." Yang insisted on leaving.

"Let's not talk so much as a family." Gao E interrupted Yang. "There will be many things I need your help with in the future."
