Chapter 525 Chat Alone
Lin Feng looked at his mother, and an embarrassed blush instantly appeared on his face. His hands unconsciously rubbed the corners of his clothes. He lowered his head slightly and said, "I was drunk, but Xin'er used her true energy to help me force the alcohol out, and then I sobered up." His voice trembled slightly, as if he was trying his best to hide his inner panic.
Liu Wenjing nodded slightly, a relieved smile on her face, and a soft light flashed in her eyes: "Is that so? Xin'er is such a good girl. She has been taking care of this family wholeheartedly over the years. You can't let her down." She took a few steps forward and gently held Lin Feng's hand. The warmth of her palm conveyed deep maternal love.
Lin Feng nodded quickly, his eyes full of sincerity: "Mother, don't worry, I won't let Xin'er down." As he spoke, he secretly prayed in his heart that his mother would not continue to ask questions.
Liu Wenjing gently patted Lin Feng's hand, with a glint of memory in her eyes: "Feng'er, come, mother will tell you about your past, maybe it can help you recover your memory." Her voice was soft and soothing, with nostalgia for the past years.
Lin Feng was truly curious about his past; those lost memories were like a mysterious treasure, beckoning him to explore. But at that moment, Chen Xin'er's suspicion weighed heavily on his heart, making it impossible to let go. He hesitated, a look of embarrassment on his face, a flicker of struggle in his eyes. "Mother, I also want to hear about your past, but I need to find Xin'er first. I have something to discuss with her."
When Liu Wenjing heard that Lin Feng was looking for Chen Xin'er, a meaningful smile instantly appeared on her face. It was a smile that contained a hint of teasing, a bit of anticipation, and a subtle hint of joy. She gently patted Lin Feng's shoulder, her eyes full of smiles: "Go ahead, go ahead. Xin'er has been waiting for you for years." In her opinion, the reunion of a young couple after a long separation was bound to involve some intimate actions. In her heart, she even began to look forward to the day when she would hold her grandson.
When Lin Feng saw his mother's smile, he felt a sudden chill in his heart, a slight chill on his back, and a strong urge to escape. He always felt that his mother's smile contained some meaning that he didn't quite understand, and that smile made him feel uneasy.
Liu Wenjing didn't notice Lin Feng's abnormality at all. She pointed to a corner of the yard excitedly, her eyes flashing with excitement: "Xiner's room is over there. Don't bully Xiner. Be gentle, okay?" There was a bit of instruction and a bit of teasing in her tone, as if she was explaining something extremely important.
Lin Feng felt that something was wrong, but he couldn't tell the specific reason. He could only nod subconsciously, his voice a little stiff: "I know, mother." His answer seemed like an instinctive reaction. After he finished speaking, he seemed to have been pardoned and hurried in the direction his mother pointed.
Liu Wenjing looked at Lin Feng's departing back, and the smile on her face became brighter. She whispered, "This child, so anxious?" There was a hint of pampering in her voice, and then she walked towards Lin Dingkun's room happily. She couldn't wait to tell her husband this "good news" so that they could share the joy together.
Chen Xin'er sat by the window, her eyes fixed on the bright moon hanging high outside, her thoughts tangled like a tangled mess. Lin Feng's figure lingered in her mind like a ghost. Once upon a time, they strolled through the courtyard together, their shadows stretched far and wide by the moonlight, their laughter and joy still ringing in her ears. But now, things had changed, and her eyes gradually moistened. A single, glistening tear slid down her cheek, landing on the windowsill and disappearing in an instant.
"Knock, knock, knock!" A gentle knock on the door suddenly rang out, breaking the deathly silence in the room. Chen Xin'er snapped back to her senses, a flicker of panic in her eyes. She quickly raised her hand, wiped the tears from her face with her sleeve, took a deep breath, and tried to calm herself down.
"Who is it?" she asked, trying to keep her voice calm, but it still inevitably trembled a little.
"It's me, Lin Feng." Lin Feng's voice came from outside the door, with a bit of anxiety and expectation.
Chen Xiner's brows knitted together, and she wondered to herself, "Why is this fake Lin Feng here?" A flicker of alarm flashed across her eyes, and without hesitation, she reached out and pulled a sharp dagger from the secret compartment at the head of the bed. In the moonlight, the dagger's blade gleamed with a cold, eerie light, as if heralding impending danger.
Chen Xiner held the dagger tightly, hiding it behind her back, and walked towards the door. Her footsteps were light, making almost no sound. The moment she reached out to grasp the door handle, she could clearly hear her own violent heartbeat, as if it was about to burst through her chest.
The door creaked open. Chen Xiner saw Lin Feng standing at the door, his slightly tired figure outlined in the moonlight. Lin Feng's eyes held a hint of nervousness and deep doubt.
"Aren't you drunk? Why did you come to me?" Chen Xiner asked coldly, without a trace of warmth in her voice.
Lin Feng did not answer Chen Xiner's question, but asked anxiously: "Can I go in and talk?" His eyes were full of earnestness, as if he was begging for something.
Chen Xiner looked at Lin Feng in front of her and hesitated for a moment. Her eyes scanned Lin Feng's face, trying to find a flaw in his expression. After a moment, she slightly stepped aside to let Lin Feng enter the room.
"Please answer my question." Chen Xiner closed the door, turned around, looked at Lin Feng and said with an unquestionable firmness in her tone.
Lin Feng looked at Chen Xiner, whom he had been thinking about day and night, took a deep breath, and said slowly: "I'm not drunk, I just want to find a chance to talk to you alone." His voice was very soft, but it was particularly clear in the quiet room.
"What do you want to talk about?" Chen Xiner's eyes were full of vigilance, and her hand was still tightly holding the dagger hidden behind her.
"After I woke up in the no-man's land, I had no memory of my past." A trace of pain flashed in Lin Feng's eyes, "But every time I sleep, you appear in my dreams. I came home today just to see the real you and talk to you alone."
A flash of surprise flashed across Chen Xiner's eyes, but she quickly regained her indifference. "You tell me," she said briefly.
"Why do you think I'm fake?" Lin Feng's eyes were full of confusion. He looked straight at Chen Xiner, hoping to get an answer.
