Chapter 23: Finding Medicinal Herbs (3)
I set the alarm and slept for ten hours. After waking up, I ate some buns and porridge and left the space. Oh my god, why is it still dark? I took out my phone and saw that it was eight o'clock in the evening. I slapped my forehead and was stunned. I was in the space for more than ten hours, but only one hour had passed outside. What should I do? Should I stay in for nine days before coming out? No, I would suffocate to death. I got the two little guys out to keep me company. Although there is a 500-meter safe zone, it's still scary in the dark. I have a mind, and I can find medicinal herbs even in the dark. Let's go. The dogs can see even in the dark, and they are still protecting me. After more than an hour, a group of animals suddenly appeared within 500 meters. They must be roe deer, some with horns on their heads, some without. There must be eight or nine of them! So cute.
Roe deer, a precious ruminant herbivore, are the most common wild animal in the Northeast forest region. Northeasterners also call them "silly roe deer." Males have horns, while females do not. They are 100 to 120 cm long, with a tail only 2 to 3 cm long, and weigh 25 to 45 kg. They have long necks and very short tails.
The roe deer has a brown snout, black nose, yellow-brown cheeks, yellow-brown ear bases, gray-brown ear dorsum, pale yellowish-white inner ears, and black ear tips. The outer limbs are sandy yellow, while the inner limbs are lighter. The tail is pale yellow, with a distinct white patch on the rump.
Roe deer are the most common wild animal in the forests of Northeast China, known locally as "silly roe deer." Roe deer are herbivores with a docile temperament and are easily domesticated. They are known for their curiosity, eager to stop and investigate everything they see, even if their pursuers suddenly shout. Therefore, experienced hunters who miss a shot will avoid pursuing a fleeing roe deer, as they will often return to their starting point to investigate what has happened.
Roe deer primarily inhabit small woods on hillsides. Found in northern my country, their meat is edible. They are purely herbivorous, feeding on a variety of grasses, leaves, twigs, fruits, and grains.
Roe deer are a treasure from head to toe: their meat contains nutrients such as protein, fat, and minerals. It has a certain tonic effect, warming the spleen and stomach, strengthening the heart and lungs, removing dampness, strengthening yang, and prolonging life.
Roe deer antler can produce sperm, replenish marrow, nourish blood, and benefit yang. It can improve memory, promote growth and development and metabolism, enhance immunity, resist fatigue, resist aging, and strengthen the body. It has the function of nourishing blood, heart, liver, kidney, bones, meat, etc.
Roe deer skin can be processed into "roe deer skin silk" to make high-end and precious leather clothing.
Therefore, wild roe deer were royal tribute in feudal society!
But now it's a Class II national protected species, listed in China's "National List of Terrestrial Wildlife of Beneficial or Important Economic or Scientific Research Value." I can't eat them now, since they're protected, but I think the government won't blame me for sneaking a few into the space! With this thought in mind, I took a few steps forward, gathering the entire herd of roe deer within a 500-meter radius. After a long study, I found a male roe deer of average build and three females, and stored them all in the space. My companion, who had just been by my side, was suddenly gone. The remaining roe deer were bewildered. "Oh my god, a roe deer transformed!" They searched for a long time without success. Suddenly, a large iron basin filled with spiritual spring water appeared nearby. "Oh my god, a roe deer transformed into a basin!" I felt a strong attraction to the water. I didn't care if it was my companions who had transformed. I drank it. I'd drink it all in! Mo'er wanted to improve their health and breed more to replace the ones she had taken. Mo'er walked another three hundred meters. The roe deer saw her, but didn't run. They just stared at her, dumbfounded. Then they lowered their heads to drink water. What a guts! Just then, a wolf howled in the distance. A moment later, it appeared within Mo'er's range of perception. Mo'er shuddered with fear, thinking to herself, "It's okay, it's okay. I have a space, what's there to be afraid of?" Then, in the pitch-black night, five pairs of green eyes stared at the roe deer, perhaps at the large basin the roe deer had transformed into. They slowly approached the roe deer, still drinking water, seemingly unconcerned. Mo'er knew this was no good. She couldn't let the wolves eat the roe deer. She had to get the roe deer into the space first, and then get them out once they were safe!
