Crossing the famine to find the white moonlight
Chapter 47 Ye Shun's Jealousy Emerges
Under Ye Wan's leadership, the team gradually got back on track. The members found their roles within her guidance, began to work together seamlessly, and their trust and reliance on each other deepened. However, a sense of unease was brewing within Ye Ershun. This feeling stemmed from his anxiety about his own situation and jealousy of his sister, Ye Wan. He felt that as a man, leading the team was his responsibility and right, not his to a woman. While Ye Wan's performance was outstanding, earning the team members' respect, Ye Ershun felt that she had stolen the spotlight that should have belonged to him.
At first, Ye Ershun tried to ignore these feelings, telling himself it was a temporary discomfort, and that as long as he waited patiently, his chance would come sooner or later. But as time went on, he felt a growing sense of resentment, especially when he saw everyone on the team obeying Ye Wan's orders, some even grateful for her arrangements. Ye Ershun's anger grew even more intense. He felt that his sister's excellence not only made him look incompetent, but also deprived him of many opportunities to shine. At this point, he fell into a vortex of self-doubt.
As Ye Ershun's jealousy grew, he began to secretly sow discontent among several members of the team. He didn't attack Ye Wan directly, but instead employed subtle tactics to gain the ear of those who harbored skepticism about her decision-making style. For example, he would casually say, "Sister Wan is certainly capable, but how long can she, a woman, hold on? We men are the backbone of the team. I think we should give more people a chance, perhaps we can share some of the responsibility."
His tone held a hint of sarcasm and subtle provocation, deliberately emphasizing that Ye Wan's leadership position was precarious, and that it was men like him who truly held the team together. Although Ye Ershun didn't explicitly express his dissatisfaction with Ye Wan, the emotions he unintentionally revealed in his words had already begun to influence some members of the team. In particular, those who had some reliance on Ye Wan's leadership but harbored doubts about her decisions began to see a glimmer of "possibility" in Ye Ershun's words.
At first, the team members didn't react much to Ye Ershun's remarks. After all, as the team leader, Ye Wan earned everyone's respect with her wisdom and exceptional ability. However, as time went on, Ye Ershun's rhetoric became more frequent, skillfully blending "dissatisfaction" with "constructive suggestions," and gradually some members began to waver. They began to wonder if, as Ye Ershun had suggested, Ye Wan wasn't entirely suited to shouldering all decision-making responsibilities, and that perhaps more people should be given the opportunity to participate in decision-making to balance the power structure within the team.
Yet, even though these emotions hadn't fully unfolded, Ye Wan was acutely aware of something strange happening to her brother. She read unease and jealousy in Ye Ershun's eyes. Though he didn't say it outright, the anger was already evident. Ye Wan's heart sank slightly, realizing her brother's dissatisfaction with her leadership was becoming increasingly evident. However, she chose not to act immediately, opting instead to wait and see.
Ye Wan knew that a direct conflict with Ye Ershun at this point would not only spark more unnecessary discussion but could also stir up unrest within the team, creating a rift in their previously solid cohesion. Therefore, she decided not to confront her brother head-on for now, but instead to balance the situation through calm observation and skillful guidance, avoiding any potential crisis.
In the days that followed, Ye Wan continued to steadily advance the team's work, making every decision impartially, neither appearing overly forceful nor losing her care for the team members. She didn't show any change in her attitude due to Ye Ershun's dissatisfaction, continuing to treat him with due respect and allowing him to participate in some of the team's tasks, trying to make him feel his importance within the team. She hoped that this way, she would help her brother gradually realize that everyone on the team has their own value, and that a leader's responsibility extends beyond decision-making to team cohesion and the growth of each member.
Yet, Ye Ershun's jealousy didn't diminish; instead, it intensified. He felt his sister's tolerance and patience were merely condescending, and that her treatment made him feel inadequate and insignificant. Whenever he saw Ye Wan engaging in intimate conversations with the team members, anger surged within him. Although he knew he couldn't directly challenge Ye Wan's leadership, the resentment of being ignored grew unbearable.
Although Ye Wan noticed her brother's inner changes, she didn't rush to respond. She knew that when dealing with Ye Ershun's emotional issues, she couldn't simply suppress or blame him, but rather, she should help him through patience and understanding. She understood that Ye Ershun's dissatisfaction stemmed not from personal hostility towards her, but rather from his anxiety about his own value and his self-identification as a man. As an older sister, Ye Wan didn't want to cause a conflict with her brother. Instead, she hoped that through her actions, she could help him understand that leadership doesn't mean excluding anyone's value, but rather recognizing everyone's role and contribution within the team.
Ye Wan silently resolved to remain calm and patient, avoiding impulsive decisions. She knew that only through unity could she lead the team out of their current predicament and toward a future that symbolized hope and stability. She firmly believed that if she could calm Ye Ershun and make him realize his own value and the importance of the team, he would eventually understand that everyone's goal was the same future, not a struggle for illusory power.
Ye Wan always holds onto one belief: unity is the team's greatest strength. No matter how the outside world changes, the bond between her siblings remains her driving force.
