Crossing the famine to find the white moonlight

Chapter 103 Confrontation of Mutual Distrust

Xie Linchuan's injuries worsened over time. Although he tried his best to remain calm and conceal his weakness, the wounds and the increasing pain forced him to reluctantly accept Ye Wan's help. However, despite his frailty, he remained highly alert. Whenever Ye Wan approached, his eyes were filled with vigilance, as if she were an enemy who might betray him at any moment.

Ye Wan noticed his every subtle reaction, and her instinctive concern and kindness were now awkwardly met with his cold gaze. While tending to his wounds, she tried to ease the tension between them with a gentle tone: "Xie Linchuan, I'm not your enemy. I saved you for no other purpose, and I don't expect anything in return."

Xie Linchuan remained unmoved, his eyes cold. He even moved slightly when her hand approached, creating distance. His tone was cold and defensive: "Maybe you just didn't say it. There is no such thing as unprovoked kindness in this world. You and I both know this."

Ye Wan was confused and a little annoyed by his cold attitude, but she knew that getting angry wouldn't make the situation better. She took a deep breath and said patiently, "I just want to help you. Even if you doubt my motives, at least you should understand that being injured like this won't do you any good. If you don't trust me, you should trust this treatment."

Xie Linchuan fell silent, his expression still impassive, but Ye Wan noticed that his clenched fists had loosened slightly. Although he didn't open his mouth to refute her, the vigilance in his eyes hadn't completely dissipated, as if he was unwilling to trust anyone easily.

Ye Wan tried to remain calm as she cleaned his wounds and changed his dressings. Her movements were skillful and gentle, yet she could feel Xie Linchuan's slightly tense muscles and cold gaze every time she approached. This wariness and repulsion made her feel incredibly oppressive, as if every movement she made was magnified into a threat.

During one of the bandaging procedures, she finally couldn't help but whisper, "Do you really think I came to save you with other motives? Xie Linchuan, I haven't known you for long, but at least I know you're not such a cold-blooded person."

When Xie Linchuan heard her words, a subtle fluctuation flashed in his eyes, but his tone remained cold: "I never trust anyone easily. Especially at a time like this. Anyone can become a threat, even the people around me."

Ye Wan sighed helplessly, a faint sense of sadness creeping into her heart. She gently shook her head, her tone slightly weak, "You might be right to be cautious, but if you always stay on guard against everything, it will only leave you isolated and helpless."

Xie Linchuan lowered his head, seemingly unimpressed by her words, but he didn't argue. Ye Wan continued bandaging him, trying to remain calm. Although his attitude disappointed her, she gradually discovered his sharp and tenacious side during these confrontations.

During their brief time together, Ye Wan gradually realized that Xie Linchuan wasn't indifferent to everyone, but rather had a deep-seated wariness in his heart, as if he had experienced too many times when he couldn't trust others. The occasional sharpness and determination in his eyes made her realize that this man's world might be much more complicated than she had imagined.

Although she understood his vigilance, the stalemate left her exhausted. She had tried to ease the situation, but each time she was met with ruthless rebuffs. Ye Wan couldn't help but feel a sense of helplessness, even wavering as to whether she should continue to help this aloof man.

As the night deepened, the air was filled with a silent, oppressive silence. Ye Wan sat wearily in a corner, gazing at the dim ceiling, a suppressed irritation rising within her. She silently pondered that perhaps this standoff would ultimately be fruitless, and perhaps even that they would no longer be able to trust each other.

At this moment, Xie Linchuan suddenly whispered, "Why don't you leave?"

His voice was quiet, but it was particularly harsh in the dead silence. Ye Wan turned her head and responded with a hint of coldness, "Because I'm not you, Xie Linchuan. I won't easily abandon someone I saved."

Xie Linchuan was silent for a moment, then finally looked up at her, a hint of hesitation in his eyes, as if he was considering her words. His lips trembled slightly, and finally he just whispered, "Maybe, you will regret it."

Ye Wan smiled slightly and shook her head: "If saving you makes me regret it, that's my choice. I just don't want to see you give up on yourself."

These words echoed in the air. Xie Linchuan looked at her quietly, a complex emotion finally emerging in his eyes. Ye Wan's determination and straightforwardness seemed to touch a corner deep in his heart, slightly loosening his cold and hard shell. However, he still didn't completely let down his guard.

He whispered, "Ye Wan, I'm not what you think I am. My world is very complicated and involves too many things. If you understood, I'm afraid you would choose to stay away."

Ye Wan was slightly startled, vaguely sensing the implication in his words. However, her gaze remained firm. "Perhaps, but I never choose to escape easily. Everyone has a past and secrets, and I have my own persistence."

Xie Linchuan fell silent, his eyes revealing a hint of confusion and hesitation, as if he saw something in Ye Wan's determination that he had never felt before. He stopped arguing and simply leaned quietly against the wall, his eyes gradually becoming empty, as if he were lost in some kind of deep thought.

As the night deepened, the atmosphere in the warehouse remained tense, but the standoff between the two men seemed to loosen slightly. Ye Wan sat quietly not far from him, not trying to break the silence, but giving him space to think.

In this silent darkness, the tension between them gradually eased, and the hostility and defensiveness between them seemed to be quietly dissipated by the silence. Ye Wan knew that Xie Linchuan might still be wary of her, but she could feel that her persistence and kindness might be touching him little by little.

That night, she did not sleep, and stayed by his side. Although she was not sure whether she would gain his trust in the future, she always had an unshakable belief in her heart, that is, no matter what the future held, she would not easily give up her original intention.
