Guns and Coffee in the World of Science
Chapter 50 Conan is discovered
The next day, the snow outside intensified, blanketing the entire city in a thick blanket of white. Inside the Mori Detective Agency, however, the atmosphere was remarkably quiet.
Conan sat on the sofa, console in hand, absorbed in the fighting game on the screen. Kogoro Mouri had gone out early to investigate a thorny infidelity case. Ran Mouri, on the other hand, had gone shopping with Suzuki Sonoko and hadn't returned yet. Conan had intended to use this opportunity to relax, but as he played, his thoughts drifted to the Black Organization.
"What a hassle..." Conan frowned, his fingers pressing the game console noticeably slowing down. He had been tracking down the Black Organization, but unfortunately there had been no progress recently, not even a clue. Just thinking about it made him anxious.
Just when he was feeling confused, he suddenly heard the sound of a door opening. Conan subconsciously thought it was Xiaolan who had returned. His eyes were still fixed on the game screen, and he casually called out, "Xiaolan, you're back?" without even turning his head.
However, the room was silent, with no response.
Conan felt something strange and stopped what he was doing. He slowly turned his head and looked towards the door in confusion. The scene before him made his whole body tense up instantly.
The person standing at the door was not Xiaolan, but a fat woman. She was wearing a thick winter coat, with a cold expression and a piercing gaze that pierced Conan like needles. The sharp eyes made him shiver all over and his back went cold.
"Who is this person?" Conan's mind raced with various speculations, but he knew he couldn't panic at this moment and had to calm the other person down first. He immediately adjusted his expression, pretending to be an innocent child, tilted his head, and asked innocently, "Auntie, are you here to see Uncle Maori?"
The woman didn't move, but her lips moved slightly, and she uttered a low and cold voice: "Kudo Shinichi."
Conan's heart sank, and his expression changed instantly. His eyes widened, and the blood in his body seemed to freeze - this woman actually called out his true identity!
"Who is she? How does she know I'm Shinichi?!" Conan's mind raced, trying to figure out the background of the fat woman in front of him. But no matter how hard he tried, he had no impression of her. But he knew she was definitely not an ordinary person.
After a brief moment of shock, Conan suppressed his anxiety and quickly regained his composure. He pretended to be confused and said in a childish tone, "Auntie, did you recognize the wrong person? My name is Edogawa Conan, not Shinichi..."
The woman smiled coldly, clearly showing no interest in his pretense of stupidity. Her cold gaze made Conan feel oppressive, but he knew he couldn't show his weakness at this moment. He tried his best to remain calm, his mind racing with countermeasures.
"What is going on? Why is she here and can recognize me?" Conan was secretly shocked, his heart beating fast, but he still tried his best to remain calm on the surface.
At this moment, Conan realized that he might be in trouble.
---
Snowflakes were still falling on the road. Conan sat in the passenger seat of a green sedan, his face looking particularly solemn. He stole a glance at the plump woman in the driver's seat. She had a stern expression, her hands firmly gripping the steering wheel, her eyes fixed on the road ahead, and an unsettling chill emanating from her.
"Who are you?" Conan finally couldn't help but asked in a deep voice.
When the woman heard his question, the corners of her mouth curled up slightly and she smiled coldly: "Kudo Shinichi, you are so smart, can't you guess it?"
Her words gave Conan a sudden shock. His suspicions were instantly confirmed, and Conan's expression changed slightly - this woman was indeed a member of the Black Organization.
"It's definitely related to that organization..." Conan wondered why they had suddenly found him. But before he could react, a cold gun barrel pressed against his head.
"Don't move." The woman's voice was as cold as a knife, with a sinister smile.
Conan's heartbeat quickened instantly, his fingers tightening slightly on his knees, but he remained composed. He knew full well that the current situation was extremely unfavorable to him, and if he wasn't careful, the consequences would be disastrous.
"Damn it, I didn't expect it to be like this..." Conan cursed in his heart, but pretended to be an innocent child on the surface, "Auntie, why are you pointing a gun at me? I'm just a child, I really don't understand what you are saying."
"Stop playing dumb!" The woman's eyes were sharp as knives, and she clearly had no patience to listen to Conan's disguise. "Kudo Shinichi, don't try to play tricks on me."
Conan knew it was pointless to continue pretending, and his mind raced, thinking about how to escape. Although the other party had a gun, he couldn't just sit there and wait for death. He had to find an opportunity to strike back.
Suddenly, Conan's eyes fell on the car's handbrake - a bold plan formed in his mind.
"Now!" Conan's heart hardened, and he suddenly reached out and pulled the handbrake of the car.
With a sharp friction sound, the car suddenly lost control and slid towards the snow pile on the side of the road. The woman was caught off guard and her body leaned forward with the shaking of the car. Conan took advantage of this moment of confusion, suddenly pushed open the car door, and jumped out without hesitation.
The cold wind, mixed with snowflakes, blew in Conan's face. He rolled over on the ground several times before struggling to get up. He quickly adjusted his breathing and ran desperately into the snow, his feet making a dull sound as they stepped on the thick snow.
After the woman discovered Conan's escape, she quickly regained her composure, her cold eyes following Conan's figure closely in the snowy night. She angrily slapped the steering wheel, but for a moment she was unable to catch up.
Conan glanced back at the car and secretly rejoiced in his heart: "It was a close call, I almost got caught." He thought about his next move while running. He had to find a safe place as soon as possible and try to contact Dr. Agasa.
Conan ran all the way until he turned into a small alley and finally stopped. He was panting, his eyes fixed on the alley entrance. After making sure that no one was chasing him, he breathed a sigh of relief.
The alley was dim and quiet, with only the distant rustle of snow in the wind. Conan leaned against the cold wall, his head lowered slightly, a wave of regret welling up in his heart. He suddenly swung his clenched fist and smashed it hard against the wall beside him.
"Damn it!" Conan cursed softly, his fingers trembling slightly because of the pain, but the regret in his heart was greater than the pain in his hands.
"I shouldn't have been so impulsive..." He frowned, clutching his head, recalling a recent case where he had to use the identity of Kudo Shinichi to solve it. Back then, the situation was urgent, leaving him with no other options. He'd thought it would be alright. But now, looking back, it was clearly that exposure of his identity had drawn the Black Organization's attention back to him.
"I was too careless... I knew they were still a threat, but I easily exposed my identity in order to solve the case." Conan thought about it and felt increasingly frustrated, filled with self-blame. As Conan, his hidden identity was his only weapon. The Black Organization's ignorance of his true situation gave him a chance to breathe. But now, his carelessness could put his life on the line.
"I shouldn't be so impulsive!" Conan was full of regret. If the Black Organization really locked him down, not only would he be in danger, but also Ran Mouri, Dr. Agasa, and even all the people close to him would be implicated.
He took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down. "There's no time to blame myself. The most important thing now is to find the organization's members and figure out their actions." He looked around, his mind racing. He had to formulate a new plan to regain control of the situation as soon as possible.
A chill wind blew through the alley, and Conan's frown gradually relaxed. Although this situation put him in great danger, he knew in his heart that he must not make the same mistake again. Things were far from over, and he had to be more cautious than before.
---
Conan hurried to Dr. Agasa's house and saw him from afar carrying shopping bags back home. He couldn't help but feel relieved. Fortunately, at least Dr. Agasa was safe for the time being. It seemed that the organization hadn't found him yet. Conan breathed a sigh of relief and decided to seek Dr. Agasa's help immediately.
However, just as he took a step forward, a hand suddenly covered his mouth and nose from behind, carrying a familiar smell of medicine. Conan's vision went dark, his consciousness quickly blurred, and then he completely lost consciousness.
When he woke up again, he found himself tightly tied up. Fortunately, only his upper body was tied up, so he could still move. Conan suppressed the dizziness in his head and quickly observed his surroundings. This was the second floor of a small house with broken windows, mottled walls, dim light, and a stale, musty smell in the air.
"Where is this..." he thought to himself, when suddenly he heard a low voice talking beside him. Conan held his breath and peeked out through a hole in the dilapidated door.
Outside the door, a man wearing a black cloak and a mask was standing at the stairs, and the fat woman who had caught Conan before was also beside him. The two were talking in low voices, but through the small hole, Conan could barely hear their conversation.
"What about Kudo Shinichi?" the fat woman asked coldly, having obviously decided to hand Conan over to the organization. "Take him back and hand him over to them, so he won't cause any more trouble."
The cloaked man shook his head, his voice hoarse and amused. "Don't worry. I'm very interested in this child. Don't you find it strange? He was shrunk by our drug, but he still retains his original intelligence and consciousness... If we find another person to try, perhaps we can discover more secrets."
The fat woman frowned: "Who are you looking for?"
The cloaked man was silent for a moment, then said coldly: "The Maori family is not bad. They will be killed sooner or later anyway, so why not use them for experiments first."
Conan's heart tightened as he heard these words. His heartbeat accelerated, and a sense of dread spread through his chest. The words "Mori family" stabbed him like a sharp knife. Ran, Kogoro, Eri Kisaki—innocent people who had faced such a terrible fate because of their own mistakes.
A deep regret welled up in his heart. Conan gritted his teeth, his eyes filled with pain and self-blame. For the first time, he felt so powerless, and for the first time, he hated his own impulsiveness and recklessness so much.
"Why...why do I always think only of the case and never consider the consequences..." Conan was filled with regret, as if every wrong decision flashed through his mind like a replay. He knew that if something bad happened to the Mori family, he would be burdened with guilt for the rest of his life.
Now he had to stay calm, find a way to escape, and not let the Maori family get implicated. However, the ropes were tied tightly, and there was no one around, not even a chance to call for help.
Fear and regret filled Conan's heart, but he also knew that he could only escape this predicament on his own. If he failed, all the people he cherished would be in endless danger.
"I must escape...at any cost!"
