On a midsummer afternoon, the sun is scorching, and the scorching sun is baking the earth, and every inch of the land is steaming hot.

The air was breathless, filled with a stifling heat that made one feel unbearably parched. Perhaps the only spirited presence was the cicadas, their relentless song.

"You little bastard, you dare to glare at me!" A hoarse and vicious voice roared, and kicked the thin boy hard in the abdomen.

The two boys who were holding the boy took a step back under this powerful impact, steadied themselves, and held him tighter.

"Keep staring!" The boy stepped forward, grabbed the boy's hair, and pulled it back, forcing him to look up. With his other hand, he slapped the boy's face like an animal, with malicious intent, "Ji Xun, you unwanted little beast, you dare to resist! You've got guts!"

Ji Xun's eyes were clear and wooden, with a chilling coldness as he stared straight at the violent boy, fearlessly.

The boy became even angrier, let go of Ji Xun's hair, clenched his fist, and punched him in the fair face.

Ji Xun's fair face instantly turned red and swollen, and a trace of blood flowed from the corner of his mouth. He just frowned slightly, disdainfully ignoring the boy's anger.

"Beat him! Beat him to death! He's still so arrogant!"

Several boys began a one-sided beating. Punches hit flesh, making a thud-thud-thud-thud sound. Ji Xun's muffled groans were completely inaudible.

He even thought about crawling out, but they pulled his legs, rubbing and dragging them on the ground. He could imagine how his face would be bruised.

Ji Xun had no power to resist. His entire body ached, the pain so intense that he couldn't breathe, his breaths nearly cutting off. At first, all he could do was shield his head with his arms, but as the men punched and kicked him, he truly had no strength left. Perhaps, death would be a good thing, a final release.

Shang Qing, who was half-lying on the ground not far away, slowly opened her eyes. As the chaotic sounds of kicking, beating and insulting entered her ears, her hazy eyes gradually became clear.

“Wow wow wow… hot hot hot…”

She jumped up and felt the pain of being burned by the earth. Sure enough, the skin that had touched the earth turned red.

Her palms and arms stung slightly, probably from scrapes from the fall. She didn't think much of the minor injury. Her mind was more preoccupied with: What happened? Why was she lying on the ground? And where was she?

Shang Qing looked around and frowned. This was a small gravel road, and the few small trees beside it were wilted, with a sense of loneliness.

Shang Qing was like a lost deer. Her mind was confused and she didn't know what to do.

"Beat him! Beat him to death! Let's see how long your arrogance can last! Haha..." What was that sound? Shang Qing didn't have the energy to think about her current situation. She heard the sounds of punches, kicks, and insults coming from the alley next to her.

Shang Qing quickly ran to the entrance of the alley and hid against the wall. She saw three boys kicking and punching something. Looking closely, she saw a skinny boy at their feet! Bullying a child! That's too much!

Of course, this was Shang Qing's understanding. The boy was just thin, not small. He was half-curled on the ground, with three particularly sturdy boys standing before him, creating a false impression.

What's going on? How dare you! This is bullying!

Shang Qing wasn't stupid. She was a girl, all alone, and there were three burly boys in the alley. The little boy she wanted to help was so small and helpless, there was no way he could fight alongside her. She could only be a lone ranger. And so, who would win?

Shang Qing sighed and twisted her fingers anxiously. She couldn't even think of giving up on helping the boy escape!

Furiously searching the surroundings, Shang Qing spotted a wooden stick as thick as his arm. His eyes lit up. God help me.

Hesitating for even a second longer would be disrespectful to the stick that appears!

Shang Qing took two steps at a time, picked up the wooden stick and shook it, then without thinking, he rushed into the alley holding the stick.

"Bang bang bang!..."

"I'll let you bully me, you hateful guys!" Her voice was soft and pleasant, a natural voice. Even when she wanted to be fierce, she didn't seem to have any deterrent power, at most her volume was just louder.

"what!"

"Who are you!"

"Stinky bitch!"

"Hit her! Ignore this guy, just beat this woman to death!"...

"Bang bang bang..."

"I'll try my best!"

"Help, help!"

"Ah! Please let us go!"

"We were wrong! Please, please!"

……

Cries of pain and pleas for mercy could be heard one after another in this remote alley.

But Shang Qing didn't listen at all. She was not that saintly.

She originally thought that these bastards were just scare tactics between classmates, or more seriously, threats of injury.

But when Shang Qing saw the boy lying on the ground in such a miserable state, breathing out more than breathing in, she could no longer bear it.

An incident resurfaced in her memory: in a past life, she had witnessed this scene, and she was frightened and ran away. But later, she heard that a young man had died in the alley, and the murderer had never been found.

In other words, if no one discovered and helped this young man, his end would be certain death!

Ji Xun was in a daze and could no longer move. His eyes were a little swollen. The pain that had been excruciating at first seemed to have become numb now. His consciousness gradually became dim, but he tried hard to keep his eyes open, trying to see clearly the girl who was fighting with three boys with a stick.

She wouldn't be in danger. After all, she was a girl. The power disparity between her and the opponent was too great!

One of the three boys across from him was named Zhang Yong, who used to be in the same class. He was the worst student in the class, a troubled child at school. After failing to get into high school, he enrolled in a nearby technical school, hanging out with the rest of the community, and became a notorious neighborhood bully. He was a frequent target of beatings and bullying, and the students nearby would avoid him if they could, but when they couldn't, they would just obey, which only emboldened him.

And what about himself? Even though he had limited energy and little time to study, his grades were still among the best. For some reason, he had offended Zhang Yong, who would bully him, and he could only hide.

Especially recently, Zhang Yong brought people to block him several times, asking him for money and beating him.

But this time, he didn't want to escape again. He felt that death might be a relief. He was unable to run away and chose to stay.

"Run! Let's run!"

"Just wait, you little bitch! I'll definitely make you regret it!"

……

Watching the three boys flee in a panic, she curled her lips in disdain, squatted down, approached Ji Xun, and patted his face gently: "Hey, are you okay? Hey..."

This also allowed Ji Xun to see the person's appearance up close: a pair of makeup with big dark circles under the eyes. He knew it was what they called smoky makeup, but this exaggerated makeup, this exaggerated dress, is it Shang Qing? Is it her?

Ji Xun knew Shang Qing. She was a famous "bad student" in Class 13 of Grade 12 and was also uneducated in school.

He didn't know what she looked like. The last time he saw her, she was wearing smudged, exaggerated makeup, her hair was curled, her school uniform was worn loosely, her trouser legs rolled up, and she was wearing a skull-emblazoned T-shirt underneath, with her uniform shirt undone. She was hanging out with a cigarette, hanging out with a few classmates who had similar makeup. When she saw him walking by, she called him a sickly person.

The makeup and outfit in front of me are so recognizable, isn't it her?

Why did she save him? Is she so kind? Isn't she afraid?

The heat from the ground baked him, and Ji Xun felt dizzy. His thoughts became even more confused, and the shadows were hazy, as if covered by a veil, and he could not see the scene in front of him clearly.

Unexpectedly, at his near death moment, such a girl would rush out to save him. He seemed to be hesitant about death...
