Reborn as the spoiled male wife of the mortal enemy

Chapter 34 What the hell are the rules?

Bai Xun saw that Nanchun was unhappy, so he asked Ah Fu to move a large wooden box from the warehouse and send it over.

Nanchun looked at the wooden box that was brought in front of him, full of doubts, and asked, "What's in it?"

Bai Xun smiled and said softly, "Open it and take a look."

Nanchun opened the box suspiciously, and inside were all kinds of exquisite and rare objects.

"These are toys from the West." Bai Xun said softly.

"What is this?" Nanchun picked up a toy car made of black metal. It was very long, with many wheels, and it was divided into sections, like a dragon lantern.

"This is called a train. This is the front, and the carriages are at the back."

"Train? Can it run just by lighting a fire?" Nanchun opened his eyes wide.

Bai Xun thought for a moment and said, "You could say that. Coal is put into the furnace on the train, the water in the boiler is heated and turned into steam, and the steam enters the steam engine, which then propels the train forward."

Although Nanchun didn't quite understand it, he felt that this thing was very powerful.

He thought for a moment and said, "Couldn't we connect many carriages at the back to carry many people and a lot of goods at once?"

"I've ridden in six-carriage trains and eight-carriage trains. They can indeed carry a lot of people and goods at once, and they can travel very long distances."

Nanchun's face lit up with joy as he exclaimed, "That's great! This way we can save both energy and time."

"Yes, there is one in Yangcheng. I will take you there next time." Bai Xun said with a smile.

Nanchun looked at him in surprise and said, "Really?"

"really."

Nanchun's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Yangcheng... I always hear people say how prosperous and bustling Yangcheng is, but I haven't been there yet. In fact, I haven't even been to the county town properly. Before, I went to the county town with my grandfather to sell game and skins in the city, and we always went there and came back in a hurry.

Oh, right. Mr. Wang mentioned earlier that the streets of Yangcheng are full of cars. There are also many novelties. Are there any of those things that light up when you press a button? It's called...what's it called...something like a lamp..."

Nanchun couldn't remember it for a moment, and frowned and scratched his head.

"Light!"

"Yes! They're called electric lights! I heard some of them can emit colorful lights, like fireworks, very beautiful. Are there also those that can hear each other's conversations no matter where you are?"

"Telephone."

"Yes, a telephone. It's magical, like one of those fairy things in storybooks that can transmit messages over thousands of miles."

Bai Xun looked at Nanchun's excitement and his heart was moved. He said softly, "The world is full of wonders. I will take you to many places to see all kinds of new things in the future."

Nanchun smiled and said "hmm".

Will I be able to find my grandfather as soon as possible by taking this train?

Until going to bed, Nanchun still held the little train tightly in his arms, with a satisfied smile on his lips.

Bai Xun looked at his sleeping face, gently stroked his hair, then bent down and kissed his cheek.

Two days later, when Nanchun was having breakfast, Mother Lan came to wait in the yard with the nanny she had hired from outside.

When Ah Fu came to report, Nan Chun didn't dare to let anyone wait, so he quickly picked up the food and started eating it voraciously.

"It's okay to eat slowly." Bai Xun's tone was full of concern.

Nanchun raised his head, hurriedly put down his bowl and chopsticks, stood up and said, "We're done eating, let's go quickly."

Ah Fu took Nan Chun to the west wing.

"Second Young Madam, this nanny's surname is Zhang. She is notoriously strict and difficult to get along with." Ah Fu reminded in a low voice.

Nanchun curled her lips and thought to herself: If I were a nice person, I wouldn't have been sent here to teach you.

When Lan's mother saw him coming, she said in a serious tone, "Second Young Madam, from now on, this Aunt Zhang will teach you the rules. Aunt Zhang is a well-known teaching nanny in the surrounding area.

All the young ladies and mistresses she taught were well-educated, well-mannered, gentle and dignified. The old lady specifically instructed her to teach you well. You must not disappoint her expectations.

"I understand." Nanchun replied.

Nanny Zhang was dressed in plain clothes, her hair meticulously combed and tied back with a simple wooden hairpin. She had a serious expression and was unsmiling. Her sharp eyes scoured Nanchun.

"In the rear house, you must always be careful about your words and actions and follow the rules. Even if you are a male wife, you must not be unrestrained and make mistakes. Today, let's start with the Three Obediences and Four Virtues." said Aunt Zhang.

Nanchun frowned slightly. He did not agree with these stupid rules.

"The Three Obediences are: before marriage one must obey one's father; after marriage one must obey one's husband; after the husband's death one must obey one's son. This obedience to the father..." [See note 1]

"Madam Zhang, my father died when I was young, and I am unable to have children as a man's wife." Nanchun interrupted her.

"Put your hand out." Nanny Zhang said coldly.

Nanchun stretched out his hand, and Nanny Zhang took out a rattan stick and hit his palm hard.

The cane was slender and tough, and it burned painfully when it hit the palm of my hand.

"The Four Virtues are womanly virtue, womanly speech, womanly appearance, and womanly accomplishment. You just violated the Four Virtues of Womanly Speech. You are not allowed to interrupt or refute others, especially the elders in your family. Do you understand?" Aunt Zhang said. [See Note 2]

Nanchun bit her lip and replied in a low voice: "I understand."

Ah Fu, eavesdropping outside the door, frowned at the sound of the cane hitting flesh. Lu He, standing beside him, looked delighted, a smile playing on her lips.

"Madame Zhang is famous for her power. The Second Young Madam is going to suffer." Ah Fu said in a low voice.

Lu He said gloatingly, "Since you've become the man's wife, you should learn the rules and regulations. This is your responsibility. If you can't even endure this little hardship, how can you be a good second young lady of the Bai family?"

"But the second young lady is a man after all..." Ah Fu couldn't help but say.

Lu He glared at him and said, "So what if you're a man? Since you've married into the Bai family, you have to follow the rules of the house. This isn't the Nan family's farmland."

As the two were talking, they suddenly heard the sound of a cane hitting flesh coming from inside the house.

Ah Fu's heart tightened, and he said, "From what I heard, Aunt Zhang was too harsh. She's here to teach us the rules, not to punish us."

Lu He said disapprovingly, "Madame Zhang has her own way of teaching. She has been a teaching nanny for decades and even taught the nobles in the palace in her early years.

"Those noble ladies can bear it, so why can't the Second Young Lady? You should stop worrying about it! As a servant, just take care of yourself."

After saying this, Luhe left.

Seeing that he couldn't convince her, Ah Fu became anxious.

Today was the fifteenth day of the lunar month, and the Second Young Master was summoned by the old lady to the Buddhist temple to pay respects to the Buddha. Nanny Zhang was hired by the old lady, and he, a servant, couldn't stop her.

Ah Fu paced anxiously outside the door, secretly praying that the second young master would come back soon.
