In mid-June of the third year of Xining in the Song Dynasty (1070), Gu Tingye, Yan Da, Wang En, Li Xian, and Zhao Xie handed over the matters at hand, broke away, and officially reunited.

At the end of July, after a month and a half of adjustment, the Song Dynasty court issued the "Imperial Edict to Punish Vietnam" and established the Annan Road Camp Cavalry and Infantry Command and the Annan Road General Administration.

Gu Tingye was appointed as the chief envoy, Zhao Xie as the deputy, eunuch Li Xian as the military supervisor, and Yan Da and Wang En as deputy chief stewards.

The Gongsheng Corps under the Palace Front Department, the Wuqi Corps under the Imperial Guard Cavalry Department, and the Xiongwu Corps under the Imperial Guard Infantry Department, totaling 60,000 central imperial guards, were allocated.

In addition to mobilizing the northern imperial guards, the court issued an edict requiring the naval commander Shen Qi and deputy commander Liu Yi to recruit 20,000 local soldiers on the spot, with a naval establishment of 20,000.

A total of 100,000 troops marched south to Jiaozhi!!!

As the saying goes, "Before the troops move, the food and fodder must go first!"

At the end of July, after the court’s second military reform, the newly established Logistics Support Corps officially debuted.

Most of them are selected from those who failed the assessment of combat units, including some soldiers who withdrew from the front line due to injuries.

Even though these people do not have the strength to fight in the front-line elite troops, as soldiers selected from the 'best of the best', they would be first-class soldiers in other countries.

This is the biggest change in the entire Song Dynasty army during the second military reform.

The Song Dynasty abandoned the traditional practice of conscripting civilians and forcing them to perform labor service, effectively ensuring the so-called civilian strength.

A formal and regular logistics force was formed to specifically transport food and fodder to the front line.

They were treated the same as the front-line troops, and were also subject to military management, training, and military exercises. At the same time, they were registered as military households and enjoyed subsidies from the court for the army.

It can be said that the logistics support troops are the same as the front-line troops in all other aspects except that they do not go to the battlefield.

But no one envied each other. The main reason was the harsh transportation environment in ancient times. Even these professional military supply teams faced extremely difficult difficulties.

The main force only needs to charge and fight, but the logistics troops pose a huge problem.

This matter has been controversial within the court for a long time. It is believed that the "logistics support troops" are a complete waste of the court's financial and material resources, and the final result may not be more time-saving and labor-saving than the "corvee system".

However, Han was stubborn and believed that although "serving corvee labor" could save the court money, it would easily waste people's energy.

You must know that Han Ming repeatedly said "human power is national power" and "human power is productivity" every day, just to let these ancient nobles understand the importance of this.

Emperor Shenzong and his court officials were well aware of these things from the implementation of new policies and production construction in the past at the local level, and they understood the fundamental role of the people in the operation of the country.

In the end, Emperor Shenzong and Han Ming resisted the pressure and insisted on establishing a "logistics support force".

However, the candidate to lead the army could not be chosen at the moment, because most of the generals wanted to rush to the front line and would not stay in the rear to transport food and supplies.

At this time, Han Zhang, the former prime minister of the court, recommended someone for this position.

Who is he?

This is the famous Song Dynasty general Zhang Yu, courtesy name Zhifu, a native of Pucheng County, Jianning Army (now Pucheng County, Nanping City, Fujian Province). He was a famous general and poet in the Northern Song Dynasty.

In the second year of Emperor Yingzong's Zhiping reign (1065), the -year-old Zhang Yu passed the imperial examination and became a Jinshi. He served successively as the magistrate of Chenliu County, the director of the Shaanxi Changping Bureau, the judge of Jingdong Road, the director of the Hubei Road Criminal Court, and the transport envoy of Chengdu Road.

In the sixth year of Yuanyou reign of Emperor Zhezong (1091), he was appointed as the governor of Huanqing Road, and proposed the method of "using war as defense, controlling the key points, and gradually eroding the territory of Western Xia", and repelled Western Xia invasions many times.

In the first year of Yuanfu (1098), he participated in the Battle of Hulu River, won three battles in a row, defeated the Xia army attacking Pingxia City, launched a surprise attack on Tiandu Mountain, and captured the Western Xia general Weiming Amai and others.

The Western Xia emperor was shocked, and history records that "Since the defeat at Pingxia City, the Western Xia was no longer able to fight."

He was successively promoted to the position of Co-Director of the Privy Council, and retired in his later years as a scholar of the Zizhi Palace and an envoy of the Zhongtaiyi Palace.

In the first year of Chongning (1102), Zhang Yu died at the age of seventy-six. He was successively awarded the titles of Right Silver and Green Guanglu Dafu, Tai Shi, and Duke of Qin, and was posthumously named "Zhuangmin".

Zhang Yu started out as a student, then rode into the battlefield, guarded the northwest border, and repeatedly defeated the invasion of Western Xia. Emperor Huizong of Song praised him for his "talents of both civil and military affairs, and his extensive knowledge of ancient and modern times"!

The emergence of this big man began to fill the blank pages of logistics support in the military history of the Song Dynasty.

Even Han Ming was amazed. His grandfather Han Zhang was even more powerful than himself, a time traveler. His vision was unique and not inferior to that of a person with clairvoyance like himself.

Originally, when he went on his first expedition to Western Xia, he wanted to find this gentleman to be his deputy.

As a result, when he went to Beijing to take the exam, he heard that his father Zhang Fang was imprisoned and was being confronted in Wei County, Hebei. So he gave up the exam and rushed to Wei County to defend his innocence.

As a result, the two of them missed the opportunity to meet. When the Second Song-Xia War ended and Han Ming was appointed as a marquis and prime minister and returned to Beijing, he was so busy that he forgot about him.

In addition, during the period when his uncle Zhang Dexiang was prime minister, he remained silent on the reforms implemented by Fan Wencheng, Han Laoye and others, so he was impeached by the censor Sun Kang for having "did nothing to contribute" during his long tenure as prime minister.

Although this matter has nothing to do with Han Zhang, the relationship between the two families has always been very flat and there is not much intersection.

Two years ago, Zhang Yu was transferred to Shaanxi and appointed as the director of Shaanxi's grain and logistics department. Han Zhang noticed this and realized his political and military talents.

It just so happened that the court needed a general to command the "logistics support troops" during this southern expedition. Han Zhang reported Zhang Qie without saying a word.

This solved the urgent problem of Emperor Shenzong. In addition to appointing Zhang Yu as the "captain" of logistics transportation, he also appointed Mr. Han Zhang as the governor of Yongxing Army.

In addition to the titles of General Manager, Envoy for Propaganda and Pacification, and Recruiting Envoy, as well as various high-sounding titles, Mr. Han has now become the true "King of the Northwest".

Originally, Emperor Shenzong wanted to let Han Zhang return to Beijing to serve as prime minister for a few years, but he was directly rejected by the old man.

Not to mention, after retiring from the central government and working in the northwest in recent years, the old man's spirit and health have improved a lot.

The old man enjoyed Shaanxi cuisine in particular very much and felt like settling down there.

Emperor Shenzong was helpless and finally felt that he could not be so stingy, so he gave Han Zhang the title of "Grand Commander of Yongliang".

He is mainly responsible for the overall planning of Shaanxi and Gansu. After all, he was a prime minister and can definitely control the direction.

This also provides a backup for Han Jiang of the Liangzhou Production and Construction Corps. After all, Liangzhou is a big deal and cannot be taken lightly.

Zhang Qie's arrival completely blocked the last loophole.

At this point, the entire team for the southern expedition has been formed. They just need to wait for the weather to turn cooler before heading south to Guangdong and Guangxi to fight against Jiaozhi.

The waiting time is always so long, so long that before everyone sent out their troops, Zhong Yan sent a letter to Han Ming with a shameless face.

In his eloquent speech, he summarized how well he was doing at his job and that the number of horses produced and matured at the Northwest Horse Farm was increasing day by day.

Of course, we also have to reminisce about the past and express how close we have been since childhood...

I wanted to laugh when I saw Han Ming, but there was a twist in the end.

"My brother Jingyuan, you and I are both disciples of Duke Wuxiang, so we have a very close relationship."

"I have a nephew, nineteen years old, who is very strategic and capable of accomplishing great things. I hope to be able to support him during this southern expedition..."

"By the way, our nephew's name is 'Zhong Jianzhong', and he is in the Gongsheng Legion on this southern expedition."

"You and I are both his good uncles, so we should treat him with some extra care, hehe o(* ̄︶ ̄*)o!"

Looking at Zhong Yan's signature, Han Ming held his forehead and sighed, "Oh my god, this guy got here through the back door!"

Just as he was about to throw the letter away and slam the table and curse, he suddenly seemed to realize something. He picked up the letter and looked carefully at the three words "Zhong Jianzhong", and his mind started to race.

"Zhong Jianzhong...Zhong Jianzhong..."

"Who is it? It feels like it's right next to my lips..."

"Snapped!"

Han Ming slapped his forehead and immediately reacted.

"Nimma! Isn't this the 'Zhongshidao'?!"

Zhong Shidao (1051-1126 AD), whose courtesy name was Yishu, was a native of Luoyang (some say Chang'an).

Han Chinese, originally named Jianzhong. To avoid the taboo of Emperor Huizong's reign title, he changed his name to Shiji. Later, Emperor Huizong bestowed the name Shidao upon him. A famous general in the late Northern Song Dynasty.

The great-grandson of the great Confucian scholar Zhong Fangcong and the grandson of the famous general Zhong Shiheng.

Zong Shidao initially held a civil office, but because of his strategy, he later changed to a military office. He made great contributions in resisting the Western Xia and became a famous general.

In the first year of the Jing Kang period, the Jin army marched south, and he was appointed as the governor of the capital and Hebei. He strongly advocated resistance against the Jin army and was deeply supported by the people. After the siege of the capital was lifted, he was relieved of his military power.

Not long after, Zong Shidao died of illness at the age of 76. Emperor Qinzong personally attended the memorial service and issued an edict to posthumously award him the title of Kaifu Yitong Sansi.

The year after Zong Shidao's death, the capital fell.

During the Jianyan period, he was given the title of Shao Bao and the posthumous name of Zhongxian.

"Okay, okay, you're going to give me this trick, okay? It's usually so hard to find someone, but now, no matter what, they're all popping up like mushrooms after rain!"

Han Ming said it bluntly, but his expression was full of joy.

The Song Dynasty produced many famous generals, which was a good sign and proved that the reformed system of the Song Dynasty began to exert its power.

The next southern expedition is going to be so easy!!!
