The Second World in Ancient Times

Chapter 19: Love Ups and Downs, Heartache

Si Qing and Su Yi thought their love would grow stronger after going through trials and tribulations, but they didn't anticipate a bigger storm brewing. The two families' business competition intensifies, and conflicts of interest gradually surface.

The Su Yi family lost out on an important business venture, and they believe the Si Qing family was behind it. Su Yi's father was furious: "We can't let Si Qing seduce you anymore. It's because of you and her that our family has suffered such a heavy loss."

Su Yi tried to defend himself: "Father, this has nothing to do with Si Qing. We should look for the reasons within ourselves and not put all the blame on her."

But Su Yi's father didn't listen at all. He decided to put pressure on Si Qing's family, asking them to sever ties between Si Qing and Su Yi, otherwise he would take more severe retaliatory measures.

Many people in Si Qing's family also thought Su Yi was a problem. One family elder said sternly, "We can't let Si Qing's feelings put the entire family in danger. We must separate her and Su Yi."

When Si Qing learned of her family's decision, she was distraught. She approached the family elders and pleaded, "Elders, Su Yi and I are truly in love. Our relationship will not affect the family's interests. Please don't let us separate."

But the elders were unmoved: "Qing'er, you are too naive. The current situation is no longer a matter of your relationship. The conflict between the two families has reached an irreconcilable point."

Su Yi fell into deep pain and helplessness. On the one hand, he loved Si Qing deeply and was unwilling to give up their relationship; on the other hand, he had to consider the interests of his family and his father's orders.

He tried to persuade his father to change his mind. In the family study, Su Yi said to his father, "Father, there must be a misunderstanding between us and the Si Qing family. We can sit down and talk it out instead of using this method to solve the problem. If we forcibly separate Si Qing and me, it will only intensify the conflict."

Su Yi's father slammed the table angrily: "You are still speaking for her! Our family's loss is irreparable. You must cut off ties with her. This is for the future of the family."

Su Yi walked out of the study helplessly, not knowing what to do. His heart was struggling fiercely between love and family, and every choice was like a sharp knife, piercing his heart.

At the same time, Si Qing was also trying to find a solution. She found Su Yi and the two met secretly in a corner of the garden.

Si Qing looked at Su Yi with tears in her eyes: "Su Yi, we can't give up like this, there must be a way." Su Yi hugged Si Qing tightly: "I won't give up, Si Qing, we have to face it together."

But they all knew that their power was so small in the face of family pressure.

Both families began to take tough measures to prevent Si Qing and Su Yi's romance. Si Qing's family restricted Si Qing's freedom of movement, not allowing her to leave the family mansion, and sent people to monitor her at all times.

Si Qing angrily said to the guards, "You can't do this to me! I have the right to pursue love." The guards said helplessly, "Miss, this is a family order. There is nothing we can do."

The Su Yi family continued to put pressure on the Si Qing family and even engaged in some malicious competition in business, causing the relationship between the two families to become increasingly tense.

Su Yi's father also arranged for women from other families to meet Su Yi, trying to make him forget Si Qing as soon as possible. Su Yi refused to get along with those women and said to his father: "I only love Si Qing, I will not accept anyone else."

Su Yi's father threatened: "If you don't obey the family's arrangements, I will expel you from the family."

Su Yi was in a desperate situation. He felt like a bird trapped in a cage, unable to break free.

On a gloomy day, a light drizzle fell from the sky. Si Qing took advantage of the guards' inattention and sneaked out of the family mansion to meet Su Yi.

Su Yi was also concerned about Si Qing. He ignored the family's ban and came to the garden where they often went. The two met in the rain, their clothes were soaked by the rain, but they only had eyes for each other.

Si Qing threw herself into Su Yi's arms and cried, "Su Yi, I miss you so much." Su Yi hugged Si Qing tightly, his voice choked with sobs, "Si Qing, me too. We can't be separated."

However, their sweet moment did not last long. The family members soon discovered their whereabouts and rushed over.

The Si Qing family members grabbed Si Qing and tried to take her away by force, while the Su Yi family members held Su Yi back, preventing him from getting close to Si Qing.

Si Qing struggled: "Let me go! I don't want to leave Su Yi." Su Yi also shouted loudly: "You can't do this!"

But their resistance was in vain, as the family was too powerful.

Si Qing watched Su Yi being pulled further and further away by his family, and her heart felt as if it was being torn apart. Su Yi's eyes were filled with pain and helplessness. He tried to break free and reached out to Si Qing: "Si Qing!"

Si Qing burst into tears, her voice sounding particularly desolate in the rain: "Su Yi! Don't leave me!"

But Su Yi was still taken away, and Si Qing felt her world crumble at that moment. Her body became weak, and she allowed her family to drag her back.

After returning to the family mansion, Si Qing locked herself in her room, refusing to eat or drink. Her mind kept replaying every moment she spent with Su Yi. Those sweet memories now pierced her heart like knives.

Her mother knocked anxiously on the door: "Qing'er, open the door, don't torture yourself like this." Si Qing did not respond. She was immersed in her own pain and couldn't extricate herself.

Si Qing felt as if she was trapped in an endless darkness, and everything around her had lost its color. She felt hopeless about the future, not knowing how she would live without Su Yi.

In the room, she looked at the token that Su Yi had given her, an exquisite jade pendant with both of their names engraved on it. She held the jade pendant tightly, tears streaming down her face.

"Why? Why does our love have to suffer such torture?" Si Qing kept asking himself in his heart.

She began to become depressed and no longer cared about family affairs. The once energetic and intelligent Si Qing seemed to have disappeared, replaced by a heartbroken and helpless girl.

The elders of the family felt a little distressed when they saw Si Qing like this, but they thought it was for the benefit of the family, so they had to harden their hearts.

Si Qing lay in bed, memories flooding back. She recalled strolling in the garden with Su Yi, discussing poetry and songs; she recalled the tender moment when Su Yi plucked flowers for her and placed them in her hair; she recalled the romantic nights they shared their hearts under the moonlight.

Those beautiful memories have now become the source of her pain. Every scene is like a knife, cutting wounds in her heart.

She remembered the time when they flew kites together, when Su Yi ran and looked back at her with a smile. The wind was so warm and the sky was so blue, but now, everything has become gray.

"Su Yi, where are you? What should I do without you?" Si Qing murmured to herself, her eyes empty, as if she had lost her soul.

During her time at the family mansion, Si Qing became increasingly lonely. Her friends came to visit her, but she didn't want to talk to anyone.

Ah Ling said to Si Qing worriedly, "Si Qing, you can't stay depressed like this. We will find a way to help you and Su Yi." Si Qing shook her head, "It's useless. The power of the family is too great. We can't change it."

Si Qing sits by the window every day, looking at the outside world, but feels that nothing has anything to do with her. In her heart, there is only Su Yi, the lover who was forcibly taken away by her family.

She tried to find out about Su Yi, but her family blocked all information from her. She didn't know how Su Yi was doing now, and whether he was suffering as much as she was.

After Su Yi was brought back to the family, he also faced tremendous pressure. His father asked him to marry into another family immediately to ease the family crisis.

Su Yi firmly objected: "Father, I will not agree. I love Si Qing and I cannot betray her." Su Yi's father said sternly: "You have no choice. If you don't agree, our family will be in ruins."

Su Yi was caught in a dilemma. He knew that if he did not obey the family's arrangements, the family might suffer greater losses. But if he gave up Si Qing, his life would lose its meaning.

He thought for a long time alone in his room, the pain in his heart like waves hitting him again and again. He didn't know how to make a choice, and every choice would plunge him into deeper pain.

Si Qing's depression also affected the rest of the family. Her parents felt guilty watching their daughter suffer so much. They began to question whether they should really sacrifice their daughter's happiness for the sake of the family.

Some young members of the Siqing family also expressed dissatisfaction with the family's decision. They believed that love is beautiful and should not be bound by family interests.

Some people in the Su Yi family also realized that forcibly separating the two might lead to greater conflict. However, the hatred between the two families had already been ignited, and it would not be easy to calm it down.

In this conflict between love and family interests, everyone is suffering, and Si Qing and Su Yi are at the center of the storm. Their love has suffered a cruel blow, and the future is full of confusion and uncertainty.
