The rural daughter-in-law of the bank president
Chapter 72 If You Don’t Like It, Just Say It
Things went much more smoothly after that. Lele looked through the files of all the children in the orphanage and stayed in the orphanage all day.
Infants and school-age children in welfare homes are separated.
Even though the welfare home has been standardized as much as possible, the disability rate of over 90% still keeps the medical staff there very busy.
At lunchtime, three nurses took turns feeding a dozen or so hungry infants. The children were placed in a room covered with mats and fed in rows, like an assembly line. Perhaps trained to be accustomed, the children didn't make much noise, and those who weren't fed waited in silence.
In the next room, there are several older children who can basically take care of themselves, a dining table with everyone's bowls, kettles, and bottles on it, and a caregiver busy at work.
After breakfast, some children of appropriate age are doing rehabilitation, while others are attending classes. Most of the classes are one-on-one, with a professional guiding them. After one student finishes teaching, another takes over. The content of the classes is simple: simple numbers, letters, and Chinese characters.
Children who had finished their lessons or whose turn had not yet come were playing in a room covered with mats, without anyone supervising them.
Lele arrived at the room and stood at the door, watching quietly.
There were three children aged two or three inside. One of them looked like he had Down syndrome. He was in high spirits, singing and dancing, and having a great time playing games by himself. The two little boys were drooling and sitting in a daze in the corner.
There were two older children. One had a noticeable visual impairment, with only a slit in his eye, and rolled his eyes unnaturally. The other, on the other hand, was perfectly clear and looked quite bright. The two children were playing. It was unclear what was going on, but the visually impaired child kept asking the other child to apologize.
When Lele's eyes met the clean-cut boy's, the little boy stood up and walked towards her.
The little boy staggered and took two steps, then lay down and used his hands and feet to reach the door.
The entrance is surrounded by a fence more than half a meter high.
Lele stood at the door, looking at the little boy with a smile.
The little boy tilted his head and looked at Lele.
The visually impaired child couldn't hear the little boy's voice and shouted, "Dongxu, apologize to me now. You just played wrong. If you don't apologize, I won't play with you. 3, 2, 1..."
Hearing the boy's countdown, the boy named Dongxu's eyes twitched and tears came out, "Don't count anymore, I've already apologized!" he said clearly.
The sound was very low. Lele was nearby and heard it, but the visually impaired child didn't hear it and continued to count down loudly, "You still haven't apologized, 3, 2, 1..."
Dongxu burst into tears and couldn't speak.
The visually impaired child heard Dongxu's cry and became more excited. He crawled and ran around the room, counting down loudly, "3, 2, 1..."
Dongxu looked at Lele, tears welling up in his eyes. "I miss my mom! Why doesn't my mom come to see me? Doesn't she want me anymore?"
Tears blurred Lele's vision. She didn't know what to say. She hugged Dongxu through the guardrail. Dongxu's mood gradually stabilized and he stopped crying.
Lele had just bent over to hug Dongxu and felt a little tired, so she straightened her body and squatted down again.
"I'm Aunt Lele! Is your name Dongxu?" Lele asked Dongxu with a smile.
"Yeah." Dongxu said in a low voice.
The visually impaired child heard Lele's gentle voice and came over.
He walked to the door, raised his head several times with great effort, and said, "His mother doesn't want him anymore!"
As soon as the words came out, Dongxu's tears fell instantly. Dongxu, who had stopped crying, started crying loudly again.
Lele shook her head helplessly. She ignored Dongxu and touched the visually impaired child's head. "What's your name?"
"Yuchen!"
"What a nice name. But can you please not talk to Dongxu like that again? Did you hear that? He is very sad." Lele's voice was gentle.
Yu Chen was quiet for a moment, "I just like playing like this." Yu Chen said and ran away from the door.
Lele grabbed Dongxu's hand across the guardrail and said, "If you don't like Yuchen talking like that, you can tell him directly. You can glare at him," Lele made a fierce expression, "like this, and then tell him, please don't talk like that again!"
Dongxu was amused by Lele's expression. She had a pretty face and her fierce look was not fierce at all.
Dongxu cried and laughed, "But he can't see!"
Lele said, "It doesn't matter. What matters is your tone. It has to be fierce. Don't talk to me like this again. I'm very angry!" Lele deliberately lowered her voice. Dongxu stopped crying and laughed.
"Why don't you give it a try?" Lele encouraged.
Dongxu hesitated for a moment, then stood there and whispered, "Don't talk to me like that again, I'll be angry!"
Lele patted Dongxu's shoulder and said, "That's amazing. That's great. Try to call out his name."
Dongxu was encouraged and shouted again, a little louder, "Yuchen, don't talk to me like this again, I will be angry!"
Yu Chen heard the sound and ran over from a distance.
"Are you good friends?" Lele asked Yuchen. Yuchen didn't answer, and Dongxu nodded.
"Dongxu treats you as a good friend, Yuchen! Good friends should care about each other's emotions, play happily, and not make each other cry." Lele looked at Yuchen, a child who seemed healthy in all other aspects except for his visual impairment. He was just better at hiding his emotions than Dongxu.
Lele hugged Yuchen through the guardrail, and then hugged Dongxu. The two children stopped laughing and crying, and looked at Lele who squatted down.
"Sister, who are you?" Dongxu asked.
"Sister? Okay, sister!" Lele smiled, "I'll come over and chat with you guys when I'm free, okay?"
"Okay, it's a deal. No regrets. Pinky promise!" Dongxu stretched out his thumb and little finger.
"But my sister will start school after the New Year, and she has to go to school so she can't come. Can I come to see you during the summer vacation?" Lele didn't rush to make a pinky promise, but explained patiently.
"Well, I also have to go to class and do rehabilitation training. The rehabilitation training is so painful that I cry loudly every time!" Dongxu slumped on the ground, pinching his legs, speaking clearly and cleverly.
"Well, then I'll come to see you when I'm free. You should study hard too. Pinky promise!" Lele also stretched out her pinky and thumb and linked them with Dongxu's fingers. "Pinky promise, never change for a hundred years. Whoever changes will be the big flower dog."
Lele was making a pinky promise with Dongxu when Yuchen suddenly spat on Lele's face!
