Chapter 906: A Famous Restaurant in the Mountain City

The two walked out of the police station compound side by side and stopped a rickshaw on the side of the road.

"Yalexuan" is a well-known restaurant in the mountain city. Although it is not as good as the top clubs frequented by dignitaries, it is deeply loved by the middle class and literati for its exquisite cooking skills and elegant environment.

Inside, carved wooden windows frame the gurgling water, and a few bamboos sway in the corner. Inside, antique mahogany tables and chairs grace the private rooms, while the faint hustle and bustle of the city outside the windows creates a stark contrast to the tranquility within.

The aroma of the fish slices in fermented wine filled the private room, whetting the appetites of both of them.

Lu Yang picked up a piece of fish fillet, put it in his mouth and savored it carefully.

"Let's take stock."

Lu Yang handed the briefcase to Ms. Wang and asked her to check the money inside.

Miss Wang took the document bag but did not open it. She looked up at Lu Yang with trust in her eyes.

"Mr. Lu, I believe you."

She said.

"People in the police station don't dare to play tricks on such a small matter."

Lu Yang raised the corners of his mouth slightly, with a hint of pride.

"They dare not offend me."

He said it lightly, as if it was a matter of course.

"They only dare to bully honest people like you."

He put down his chopsticks, picked up the teacup, and took a sip.

"I heard something interesting at the police station today."

Lu Yang's voice was very casual, as if he was just chatting.

"A printing factory manager was arrested. It seems to be related to the 'Red Party' case."

Miss Wang's body trembled violently upon hearing this, and her eyes immediately became sharp. The originally calm expression on her face was instantly broken, replaced by an excitement that was difficult to conceal.

"Printing house manager? The Red Party case?"

She immediately asked.

Lu Yang noticed Ms. Wang's reaction. He knew that her sensitivity to this case must be related to the leaflet assignment she had previously accepted. This was exactly the effect he wanted.

"Ah."

Lu Yang nodded.

"The sheriff said the manager's name was Zhang Likun. He kept crying foul, saying he was reporting the incident."

Lu Yang's voice lowered a little, with a hint of mystery.

"They say they've discovered a man named Peng who's in cahoots with the Red Party."

He paused and observed Miss Wang's reaction.

Miss Wang's eyes flickered, and she quickly searched for the name "Peng" in her mind, but had no clue.

"He also said that the police shouldn't arrest him, but that guy named Peng."

Lu Yang continued.

"But the sheriff was arrogant. He said directly that the arrest of Manager Zhang was a direct order from the 'Taijun.' After that, Manager Zhang dared not make any more noise."

Lu Yang's gaze fell on Miss Wang's face.

Miss Wang's face turned extremely serious. She didn't know anyone named Peng, but she knew that the doctor she knew might know.

Her brain was working rapidly, connecting these fragmented pieces of information in her mind.

The order from "Taijun", the man surnamed Peng, the printing factory manager... these seemingly unrelated points seem to be gradually forming a huge vortex.

She realized that what she had just heard was extremely important information.

"Mr. Lu, this information... is very important."

Miss Wang's voice was a little low. She looked at Lu Yang with a hint of inquiry in her eyes.

Lu Yang smiled but said nothing. He just looked at her quietly, a hint of amusement in his eyes. He knew that he had successfully thrown the bait to her.

After finishing the meal, it was already evening. The lights were on and the mountain city was dim in the night.

"I'll take you home."

Lu Yang said.

Miss Wang shook her head.

"No thanks, Mr. Lu."

Her voice was soft.

"I can go back by myself."

Lu Yang didn't insist. He knew she had her own things to deal with.

"Well."

Lu Yang nodded.

The two said goodbye at the restaurant entrance, each hailing a rickshaw and heading in different directions. Lu Yang returned to the High Court, knowing that a new identity and new mission awaited him there. Ms. Wang returned to her temporary residence, needing to quickly report this intelligence to her superior, the doctor.

And it was at the headquarters of the Japanese military police in Yamashiro.

In a spacious and slightly gloomy office, the captain of the Japanese military police was sitting behind his desk. He was wearing a neat military uniform, his face was serious, and his eyes revealed the coldness unique to soldiers.

The phone on the table had just been put down.

On the other end of the phone was a Japanese military advisor, his voice with a hint of respect as he reported the movements of Lu Yang and Miss Wang.

"Captain, the intelligence team reports that Mr. Lu's fiancée, Ms. Wang, went to the High Court to visit him this afternoon."

The Japanese military advisor's voice was hesitant.

"The two then left together and their whereabouts are unknown."

The military police captain raised his eyebrows slightly. He had previously confirmed Lu Yang and Miss Wang's engagement through secret investigation. He was well versed in Chinese customs and believed that normal contact between the two was nothing wrong. This actually alleviated some of his suspicions about Lu Yang.

"Ah."

The military police captain groaned.

"Don't pay too much attention to the two of them."

His voice was steady and carried an unquestionable command.

"Refocus your attention on the surveillance of No. 69 Mingsheng Lane."

No. 69 Mingsheng Lane was the trap they had carefully laid, the key target of their "long-term plan to catch a big fish." However, thinking of this, the captain of the military police frowned unconsciously, and a hint of disappointment flashed in his eyes.

The cigarette in his hand had burned to the butt, and the smoke obscured the hint of irritation deep in his eyes.

He felt somewhat disappointed. His carefully designed "long line" didn't seem to have caught the "big fish" he had expected.

He pressed the cigarette butt hard into the ashtray, and the cigarette head made a hissing sound, as if mocking his plan.

"Is there really no clue?"

The captain of the military police spoke to himself in a low voice.

He knew he had to make a breakthrough as soon as possible.

At the Yamashiro Japanese Military Police headquarters, the air in the captain's office was stagnant and cold, thick with the scent of tobacco and anxiety. Major Honda, the military police captain, pressed his cigarette butt hard into the ashtray. The hissing sound seemed to vent his inner frustration. He stood up, walked to the sand table in the office, and gently tapped his fingers on the sand table model of No. 69 Mingsheng Lane.

"Xie Changming, you only went out to buy groceries once in the past two days, and then you stayed indoors?"

Major Honda's voice was low, filled with suppressed anger. He faced eight plainclothes agents, each with a look of fatigue and caution on their faces.

"Are you sure there's nothing suspicious about him?"

His eyes were like knives as he swept over the eight agents.

The leading agent, Ichiro Yamamoto, stepped forward and stood straight.

"Captain, we're taking turns keeping a close eye on him day and night. Xie Changming's every move is under our watch."

Ichiro Yamamoto spoke in a firm tone without any hesitation.

"He did go to the market at the end of the alley to buy vegetables just two days ago."

"We monitored him the entire time. He just left with an empty basket, and when he came back, it was full of vegetables and fruits. He didn't carry anything suspicious."

He paused and added, "We also secretly tracked several vegetable vendors who were doing business with him. They were all ordinary farmers who had been selling vegetables in the mountain city for generations and had no background whatsoever."
