Spy war in the Republic of China, peak undercover
Chapter 560: Sneaking in the Dark
【Night Stealth】
The night in the cell was particularly long. Lu Yang leaned against the wall, listening to the patrol's footsteps outside.
"Hey," a whisper came from the next cell, "are you the defected Military Intelligence Bureau agent?"
Lu Yang didn't answer, but just knocked on the wall lightly.
"Stop pretending," the voice continued. "I saw your conversation with Nagai."
Lu Yang narrowed his eyes: "Who are you?"
"A person like you," the other party smiled, "my last name is Zhang."
"Adjutant Zhang?" Lu Yang suddenly remembered something.
"Hush," Adjutant Zhang lowered his voice, "the walls have ears."
As he was speaking, footsteps were heard outside. A jailer walked by with a lantern.
After the footsteps faded away, Adjutant Zhang said, "Are you here to save me?"
"No," Lu Yang said softly, "I'm here to blow up the arsenal."
"Arsenal?" Adjutant Zhang exclaimed in surprise. "Are you crazy? It's heavily guarded!"
Lu Yang smiled without saying anything, took out a cigarette and wiped it gently on the wall.
The moment the fire lit up, Adjutant Zhang saw a small hole in the wall.
"This is..."
"Wait," Lu Yang handed over the cigarette, "there will be a good show soon."
At midnight, there was a sudden commotion outside.
"Fire!" someone shouted. "The Quartermaster's Office is on fire!"
"Hurry up and put out the fire!" The jailers ran out.
Lu Yang took out a piece of wire from the sole of his shoe and pried open the lock in two or three strokes.
"Let's go," he said, pushing open the cell door. "Adjutant Zhang."
Adjutant Zhang also opened the door: "Are you ready?"
"What else?" Lu Yang said with a smile, "I surrender sincerely."
The two walked along the dark corridor and suddenly heard voices in front of them.
"Major Nagai!" a spy came running to report, "the fire in the quartermaster's office can't be put out!"
"Baga!" Nagai's voice came, "It must be that bastard Lu Yang!"
“But he’s still in jail…”
"Go check!" Nagai roared, "Go check!"
Lu Yang pulled Adjutant Zhang into a storage room and saw a team of spies running by.
"What should we do now?" asked Adjutant Zhang.
"Wait," Lu Yang pricked up his ears, "Wait a moment."
Sure enough, not long after, another loud noise was heard outside.
"Report!" Another spy came running over, "The ammunition depot at the east gate is also on fire!"
"What?" Nagai stamped his feet in anger. "Get everyone to put out the fire!"
After everyone had left, Lu Yang and Adjutant Zhang slipped out of the utility room.
"These fires..." Adjutant Zhang suddenly realized, "Were you the one who arranged all of this?"
"No," Lu Yang shook his head, "it's Qinglan and the others."
"Qinglan?" Adjutant Zhang was stunned. "She is not..."
Before he could finish his words, a flashlight suddenly lit up in front of him.
"Sure enough, it's here!" Yongjing raised his gun, "Lu Yang, you really impressed me."
Lu Yang pushed Adjutant Zhang away and said, "Go! I'll stop him!"
"Stop pretending to be nice," Nagai sneered, "None of you can leave."
"Really?" Lu Yang suddenly pounced on Nagai.
The two men wrestled with each other, and the flashlight fell to the ground, causing the light to flicker.
“Adjutant Zhang!” Lu Yang shouted as he fought. “Remember what I said!”
Adjutant Zhang was stunned for a moment, then suddenly understood: "You..."
"Hurry up!" Lu Yang pushed Yong Jing away, "Don't let me work in vain!"
Adjutant Zhang gritted his teeth, turned around and ran away.
"Want to run?" Nagai raised his gun.
Lu Yang kicked his hand away and the bullet hit the ceiling.
"Your opponent is me," Lu Yang wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, "Nagai."
"Very good," Nagai picked up the flashlight, "Then let me see what other tricks you have!"
The flashlight illuminated Lu Yang's face, and there was a smile on his lips.
"Nagai, do you remember the first time we met?"
"Of course I remember," Nagai touched the scar on his face, "You ruined my eyes."
"No," Lu Yang shook his head, "I mean, the time in Tokyo."
Nagai's expression suddenly changed: "You...how do you know?"
"Because," Lu Yang took out a yellowed photo from his arms, "I was by your side at that time."
The photo shows a young Nagai with a Chinese woman standing next to him.
"Shut up!" Nagai's hands were shaking. "Don't mention her!"
"Why not?" Lu Yang continued, "She's your wife."
"Baga!" Nagai pulled the trigger.
Lu Yang rolled over to avoid the bullet, which hit the wall.
"Nongjing, your daughter looks a lot like her," Lu Yang's voice echoed in the darkness, "especially when she laughs."
“Asshole!” Nagai fired wildly, “Shut up!”
The bullets were all used up, Nagai was gasping for breath, holding the empty gun.
In the darkness, Lu Yang's voice gradually faded away: "When you want to know the truth, come to Yangjialing to find me."
【Night Rain Chase】
It was raining heavily as Lu Yang ran along the muddy mountain road. The pursuers were still behind him, but their footsteps were no longer audible.
"Stop!" A hoarse voice suddenly sounded.
Lu Yang stopped and saw a figure holding a gun, standing under a big tree on the side of the road.
"Qinglan?" he asked tentatively.
"Don't move!" The figure took two steps forward. "Who are you?"
Lu Yang slowly raised his hand: "I'm here to deliver a letter. Lao Yang asked me to come."
"Old Yang?" The other party sneered, "He's already dead."
Lu Yang was shocked: "When did this happen?"
"Just yesterday," the figure said, "we were discovered by the Japanese."
The rain flowed down Lu Yang's cheeks, and he suddenly laughed: "You lied."
"What?"
"Old Yang is not dead," Lu Yang put down his hand, "because you are not Qinglan at all."
Before he finished speaking, the figure pulled the trigger. Lu Yang was prepared and rolled into the ditch beside the road.
"As expected of a military expert," the man threw off his bamboo hat, revealing a sullen face. "You react really quickly."
"Yamada Taro," Lu Yang recognized him, "Nagai's right-hand man."
"Thank you for the compliment," Yamada said, holding up his gun. "Can I surrender now?"
Lu Yang leaned against the dirt pile and touched his empty holster. "What do you think?"
"No more bullets?" Yamada laughed. "Major Nagai said you would definitely run this way."
"Really?" Lu Yang sighed, "Then why didn't he come?"
"He's gone to look for his daughter," Yamada said. "That's a good thing for me. I can catch you myself."
Lu Yang suddenly asked: "Do you know what Yongjing's daughter looks like?"
"This..." Yamada was stunned.
"You don't know," Lu Yang continued, "because Nagai himself doesn't know either."
"Stop talking nonsense!" Yamada shouted.
"Don't believe it?" Lu Yang took out a photo from his pocket, "Look at this."
Yamada took the photo and saw the content clearly in the light of lightning.
"This is..."
"A photo from fifteen years ago," Lu Yang said, "of Yongjing and his Chinese wife."
Yamada's hands were shaking: "Impossible... Major..."
"What? He didn't tell you?" Lu Yang sneered, "Of course he wouldn't tell you, because it's his shame."
“Shut up!” Yamada raised his gun. “You’re trying to sow discord!”
"Really?" Lu Yang stood up. "Then go ask him why he has been looking for a woman named 'Mei' all these years?"
“Mei?” Yamada’s eyes widened. “The… the wanted criminal?”
"Yes, that's her," Lu Yang took a step forward, "Nagai's wife."
“Don’t move!” Yamada took a step back, “or I’ll shoot!”
"Go ahead," Lu Yang continued to walk forward, "Don't you always want to make a contribution?"
Yamada's finger was on the trigger, but he didn't move.
"What are you hesitating about?" Lu Yang asked, "Do you think Yongjing has concealed too many things?"
"Shut up!" Yamada yelled, "You damn..."
Before he could finish his words, a dark shadow jumped down from the tree and kicked his gun away.
"You're too slow," Qinglan shook the rain off her hair, "You made me wait for so long."
Lu Yang breathed a sigh of relief: "If you don't come, I will be beaten into a sieve."
"Stop talking nonsense," Qinglan kicked the unconscious Yamada, "Where's the thing?"
Lu Yang took out a cloth bag: "Arsenal blueprints, and Nagai's handle."
"Nagai..." Qinglan took the cloth bag and hesitated to speak.
"What's wrong?" Lu Yang asked.
"He..." Qinglan bit her lip, "It seems he really went to Yangjialing."
Lu Yang's eyes lit up: "Really?"
"Yes," Qinglan nodded, "He brought a group of people and said he was looking for someone."
"Great," Lu Yang said with a smile, "half of the plan is successful."
"What on earth do you want to do?" Qinglan frowned, "Why tell him those things?"
Lu Yang looked at the mountains in the distance: "Because, only he can find that person."
"who?"
"A very important person to us," Lu Yang said. "She knows the locations of all the Japanese arsenals."
Qinglan suddenly realized: "It's Nagai's..."
"Shh," Lu Yang made a gesture to silence the crowd, "someone is coming."
There were chaotic footsteps and the barking of military dogs in the distance.
"Let's go," Qinglan pulled him up the mountain, "Lao Yang is waiting for us at the top of the mountain."
The rain was getting heavier and heavier, and the two figures gradually disappeared into the night.
