Chapter 314: One Punch Man Travels Through Marvel (1)
On April 2030, 4, you stood penniless in the center of a ruined city, observing your surroundings with curiosity. The sky was gray and black, the air thick with radioactive dust, and ruins lay everywhere. The only intact walls within your field of vision were covered with wanted posters, mostly depicting strange figures. Some were called the Hulk, some were called Doctor Octopus, and a few even resembled the Crab Monster and Octopus Claw Man from a previous parallel world. It was a very strange world.
You stood dazed on the street for a few minutes, then noticed someone was being attacked nearby. When you walked over, you found that the person being beaten was a young man wearing an ugly green tights and holding a flamethrower. He had just saved a child and had a strong sense of justice. For a hero, this was enough.
The attackers were two lizard monsters, one of whom lunged at you. Your immediate thought flashed back to the lizard monster from your own world, roaming around looking for people to mate with. Without hesitation, you unleashed a simple punch, sending the other person flying off like a meteor. You saved the idiot in the green tights, your eyes bulging out in delight.
On April 2030, 4, you learned that the man you rescued was Dave Lezeski, nicknamed Kick-Ass, and a member of a heroic group called the Defenders. You were puzzled. This world clearly had its share of eccentrics, but were all superheroes so weak? Dave was in awe of you. Upon learning you had nowhere to live, he immediately invited you to live with him, offering to cover most of the rent. His place was a cobbled-together house in a medium-sized survivor community, complete with a free TV and radio. There was also a supermarket and a food market nearby, with occasional discounts in StarCoins. You were delighted.
Before you can truly explore this world, you must first save up some money. Through Dave, you learn that this world has two types of currency: the standard US dollar, measured in cents. The other, called Star Coin, was launched by Star Company ten years ago and remains in use today. One Star Coin equals ten US dollars, which can be used to purchase rare resources and discounted items—your favorites. However, you can only earn Star Coins by completing bounties. As a new hero, Dave also has to work part-time at a convenience store. Like you, he's incredibly broke, struggling to even support himself.
[Also, this world doesn't have a Hero Association, only an organization called the Official Survivor Base. While there are hero jobs, the requirements are high and require an introducer. Currently, the only way to make quick money is through bounties, but that takes time and requires an ID, neither of which you have yet... Even though Dave practically begs you to do it for free, you still find a job helping sell fish at the market. Perhaps because of the radiation, the fish in this world also look a bit strange, some even have legs, making it hard not to get your hands on them.]
Life is tough right now, but luckily there's still a video game console! You discover that Dave is incredibly skilled at gaming. While you're playing a game called Street Fighter X, he can actually use a weird old man named JP to remotely attack you and grind you to death. He calls it "stand back," and I'll stand you up! You can only vent your anger by killing fish, which you're now doing even faster. Your heart is cold, and your knife is even colder.
April 2030th - May 4th, 30. After a week in this world and a week of playing the game, you've come to hate the hero, JP. After learning about the world's setting, you realize this is actually New York, but it's a post-nuclear New York. A few highly intelligent individuals hacked into the US nuclear weapon delivery system and released 2030 nuclear bombs on major cities. These bombs caused the sinking of many island nations around the world, including Japan, the Maldives, and Fiji, and the entire world was filled with nuclear radiation.
After the nuclear war, apart from a certain large country in East Asia and a few survivor groups, which still maintained a semblance of freedom, two massive groups of freaks ruled most of the world: the Jokers and the Illuminati. The Jokers were led by the freak known on wanted posters as the Hulk; the Illuminati were led by Steve Rogers, nicknamed the Injustice Superman. Oh, and the freaks in this world are also called mutants, and many superheroes are mutants, which is quite interesting. Depending on your judgment, both the Hulk and Steve Rogers might be a match for you. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.
The wanted posters posted on the wall were issued by the official survivor base in New York, in conjunction with the six major survivor organizations. Their leader is a man named Reed Richards. Only those with hero status can accept them, and once they complete the task, they too can become heroes. It's an unsolvable dilemma! Dave Lezeski, whom you know, is a one-star hero. His fellow group members, Daredevil Matt Murdock, are three stars, Jessica Jones is two stars, and the invulnerable Luke Cage is also three stars. The highest-starred heroes in this organization, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, are both five stars—quite interesting. Lacking any identification, you can only ask Dave Lezeski to help you take on a few bounties.
The first bounty is for a group of freaks called Elemental Carnival. They've taken over an abandoned school called "Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters." Their main members are William Dong, the Fire Man; Jason the Stone Man; and Jamie Foxx, the Lightning Man. You had Dave drive you here. It's a bit crowded, all elemental freaks, comparable to demon-level freaks, making them quite formidable. But one of them bears a striking resemblance to JP: you, William Dong! The moment your white cape rips open, you unleash a flurry of standard punches, vaporizing William Dong and piercing Jamie Foxx's chest. Jason the Stone Man is incredibly strong, remaining intact after the punch, collapsing with a thud.
"That's so weak! You're feeling bored, but Dave disagrees. He grabs your arm like crazy, shakes you around, and says he wants to learn. It's actually very simple—just do 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10-kilometer run every day for three years. And don't turn on the air conditioning no matter how hot or cold it is."
On May 2030, 5, Dave Lezeski submitted a bounty on your behalf. Since there was no body, William Dong lost the money. Jamie Foxx and Jason the Thing received a combined 9 Star Coins. Are you rich now? The result is the same as before, except you've just gotten a bigger house and you still have to buy discounted items everywhere!
After submitting the bounty, Dave Lezeski's hero level has been upgraded to 3 stars. Logically, he should now be authorized to help you apply for the Hero Assessment! However, this world is somewhat similar to your time before you traveled across time. The Hero Assessment also requires a written exam! You know nothing about this world, so you're not confident enough to participate yet.
The second bounty is for Jack of Hearts, a member of the Illuminati. He's a member of the Black Avengers, capable of firing pink energy from his hands and creating powerful shockwaves around him. He possesses a force of over 25 tons, possesses immense attack power, and possesses rapid self-healing abilities. His high metabolism allows him to heal twice as fast as a normal person, and he's incredibly fast, even using energy to leap through space. You have no idea of the combat power of this world, perhaps comparable to Boros's. During the fight, he hit you slightly, but after he unleashed a seemingly powerful Heart Shockwave, you were forced to deliver a serious punch. The Heart Shockwave was defeated, and the wind from his punch killed Jack of Hearts, even dispersing the radioactive dust over half the Earth. Very disappointed!
