Accidentally dressed as an empress

Chapter 31: Night Exploration of the Ruined Temple

Since the market opened in the early morning, Su Qing and his ten men disguised themselves as merchants, mingled with the crowd, and listened to all kinds of gossip.

Su Qing also went to teahouses to sit and listen to storytellers telling rumors, and drank with all kinds of guests in taverns, secretly collecting information.

For several days, nothing was found.

Three days later, some of the men heard that there was a secret meeting of an underground organization in the ruined temple at midnight.

There were dilapidated temples everywhere in Lingyun City, so Su Qing had to disperse his men and have each of them investigate one.

The crescent moon climbed up the willow branches, and Su Qing sneaked into the secret base of the underground organization, a dilapidated land temple in the east of the city.

Su Qing walked silently in the shadow of the dilapidated land temple. Her figure was looming in the night, as if she had merged with the darkness.

In the dead of night, the darkness was as black as ink. Inside the dilapidated temple hall, the lights were dim, rustling and whispering could be heard. Various figures in black robes were trading here, and the atmosphere was eerie.

Both parties involved in the transaction wore black robes and hoods, covering themselves tightly, carefully concealing their identities, speaking in low voices, and some communicating with secret codes and gestures.

Su Qing's eyes were as sharp as torches as he observed everyone carefully, trying to find some clues. A strange owl cry came from outside the ruined temple, and the atmosphere became more creepy.

Su Qing glanced back and forth several times and was attracted by the two people in the corner.

There, two people in black robes were talking about something. One of them had a flat chest, but was tall, with broad shoulders and a thick waist. Could he be a man?

Su Qing moved closer and saw a big beard on the man's face under the light.

Among the men in Yun Country, there are very few who are so tall and strong.

Su Qing stared at the two of them closely, his hand unconsciously clenching the dagger hidden in his sleeve.

"Are you sure this news is true?" The man's voice was rough and his tone was doubtful.

"Of course, my information has never been wrong." The black-robed man whispered, "But for what you want, I need more silver."

The bearded man grunted, as if considering the value of the deal. Su Qing held her breath and approached quietly, wanting to hear more.

Just as Su Qing was about to take further action, a sudden gust of cold wind blew, the lights flickered, and something seemed to flash by in the dark. Su Qing immediately became alert, thinking someone was secretly watching her.

Su Qing's body tensed up instantly, ready for a possible attack.

Su Qing's mind raced with thoughts: Who was this person? Was he a friend or foe? Was he here for the same reason as her, to investigate this underground organization?

These questions swirled in Su Qing's mind. She quietly approached the person who was monitoring her, then suddenly made a move and clamped the person.

The man was startled by Su Qing's sudden attack, but quickly regained his composure.

"Who are you?" Su Qing asked quietly.

The mysterious man looked at Su Qing, a complicated look flashed in his eyes, and then he said softly: "I'm here to help you."

Su Qing was stunned. She had never expected this person to be a man. She clamped the mysterious man, a hint of doubt flashing in her eyes, and then asked, "Why are you helping me?"

The mysterious man looked at Su Qing deeply, then said softly: "I also want to find out more about this underground organization."

Su Qing looked at him, her doubts deepening. She didn't know whether what this man said was true or not, but she couldn't fight him now, as it would expose her position and alert the enemy.

"Okay, I'll believe you for now." Su Qing said.

The mysterious man said, "Stop talking, they are almost done with the deal."

"Okay, deal." The big man finally made up his mind and handed the man in black a heavy bag of silver.

The black-robed man took the silver, a satisfied smile on his face. He pulled a sheepskin roll from his bosom and handed it to the big man. The big man took it, carefully unfolded it, and a fanatical glint flashed in his eyes.

Su Qing's heart beat faster, and she had a strange premonition that the roll of sheepskin might be very important.

As soon as the transaction was over, the bearded man and the man in black robe separated, and the man hurriedly left the ruined temple.

The man was with the mysterious man Su Qing, who followed the big man carefully.

Under the moonlight, Su Qing's figure blended into the darkness, like a ghost, shuttling through the narrow streets and alleys, following the big man closely.

The big man seemed to be quite familiar with the area. He turned left and right and soon left the bustling street and came to a dilapidated bungalow.

Su Qing didn't follow too closely, but carefully kept a distance, for fear of being discovered.

The big man stopped in front of a dilapidated house, looked around, and then quickly pushed the door open and walked in.

Su Qing hid in the dark, waiting for the opportunity. Soon, the lights in the house went out and the surroundings fell into darkness.

Su Qing's heart moved. The time had come. She quickly approached the house, put her ear to the door, and listened carefully for any movement inside. However, the house was silent, without a sound.

Su Qing hesitated for a moment, then gently pushed the door open. The door hinge made a slight creaking sound, which was particularly harsh in the quiet night.

However, when he opened the door, he found that the room was empty. Su Qing walked into the room quietly, looked around, and found that no one seemed to have lived here for a long time.

The plaster on the walls had peeled away, revealing the masonry underneath. A worn wooden table stood in the center of the room, strewn with rags and a wooden sign.

Su Qing frowned, she walked forward, picked up the wooden sign on the table and looked at it carefully.

Her gaze was fixed on a flower pattern, which was the same one that the assassin who assassinated His Highness had on his body: the mandala flower.

Su Qing's heart skipped a beat. She knew she had found the right place. This symbol must be the logo of Lingyun City's underground organization.

However, at this moment, there was a sudden sound of footsteps outside the door. Su Qing's heart tightened, and he quickly and gently put the wooden sign back to its original place.

Su Qing quickly hid behind the door and looked at it nervously.

The door was pushed open, and a figure walked in. Su Qing's heartbeat instantly accelerated, and her whole body was as tense as a stretched bow. She tightly grasped the dagger in her hand, ready to attack at any time.

A figure walked into the room. Su Qing was about to jump up and try to kill the bearded man by the neck, but a pair of hands reached out from the darkness and pulled Su Qing into the shadows.

The bearded man took the wooden sign and left immediately. Gu Zezhi said to Su Qing, "Play a long game to catch a big fish. Don't alert the enemy."

Su Qing pushed away his hand that was around her waist and asked, "Who are you?"

Gu Zezhi stepped out of the door and turned back to say, "You don't need to know who I am."
