A Shocking Dream
Chapter 79
In the pitch-black room, the silence was so still that one could almost hear a heartbeat. A masked woman held a scroll, examining it in the dim light. Her eyes were focused and alert, as if she were searching for a hidden secret.
"This is a Snow Country scroll. Nothing special to look at," the woman muttered to herself, a hint of doubt in her voice. She slowly unfolded the scroll, revealing only fuzzy lines and faint colors on the pristine white canvas, leaving one baffled.
The woman frowned slightly, pondering silently. She had heard that this Snow Country scroll held a profound secret, but now it seemed so ordinary. Unwilling to give up, she continued to scrutinize every detail of the scroll.
She gently touched the canvas, feeling its delicate texture. The subtle touch from her fingertips seemed to tell an ancient story. Suddenly, she seemed to discover something, and a flicker of surprise flashed in her eyes. In that moment, she seemed to see a glimmer of hope, a possibility of solving the mystery.
However, the surprise was fleeting, replaced by a deeper confusion. She frowned and carefully examined the scroll again. What was that strange feeling just now? She tried hard to recall the feeling at that moment, but it was as difficult as trying to grasp a wisp of smoke.
Her eyes roamed the scroll, searching for the source of her surprise and confusion. The lines on the scroll seemed to pulse faintly, as if alive. Her heart followed the rhythm of the beating, growing increasingly nervous.
"What secret is hidden in this scroll?" she whispered to herself, her voice echoing in the silent room. She knew she had fallen into a complex mystery, and the answer to this mystery might be hidden in this seemingly ordinary scroll.
She slowly sat down and placed the scroll flat on the table in front of her. She closed her eyes, trying to calm her thoughts so she could think better. In the darkness, the image of the scroll kept appearing in her mind, the blurred lines and faint colors seemed to tell her something.
Suddenly, an idea flashed through her mind. She opened her eyes and looked at the scroll again. This time, her gaze was more determined. She decided to start by examining the scroll's material to see if she could find any clues.
She carefully picked up the scroll and examined its edges and back. She noticed the material was unusual, seemingly no ordinary paper or cloth. She gently stroked the back of the scroll and felt a slight coolness. This coolness reminded her of a legendary material: ice silk.
"What are you doing!" A furious roar echoed through the silent, dark room like a thunderclap. The woman was so frightened that her hand nearly trembled, and the scroll nearly fell. Fortunately, she caught it quickly. Her heart instantly rose to her throat, and she looked in the direction of the sound in fear.
"Are you trying to kill yourself? This is what the master wants, how dare you!" another woman in black shouted sternly. She quickly stepped forward, took the scroll from the previous woman and put it away carefully.
The woman from earlier was pale, but her eyes still held a trace of resentment. "I simply wanted to see what secrets this scroll holds, and why its owner values it so highly." Her voice trembled slightly, yet held a hint of stubbornness.
The woman in black stared at her with cold eyes. "The master's orders cannot be questioned. If the master knows what you did today, you will definitely die."
"But I'm not willing to remain in obscurity like this." The woman from before clenched her fists. "This scroll must contain a secret that could change everything."
The woman in black snorted coldly, "Put away your curiosity and do your job. You can't guess what the master is thinking."
In this pitch-black room, the atmosphere is tense and oppressive. The confrontation between the two women is like a silent storm, with the mysterious scroll at its center. They both know that this scroll represents more than just a painting, but an unknown turning point in fate.
"When will the master come to get it? I haven't seen what the master looks like yet." The woman frowned slightly, with curiosity and anticipation in her eyes.
"The master has a special status. You can't just see him whenever you want." The woman in black spoke in a serious tone with a warning in her eyes.
"How special is it?" The woman continued to ask, still unwilling to give in.
The woman in black narrowed her eyes slightly. "It's not your place to inquire about the master's identity. Just do your job well and don't ask questions that shouldn't be asked."
The woman bit her lip, her doubts growing stronger. She couldn't understand why this master was so mysterious, asking them to do things for him without even meeting him. And what secrets did the scroll hold? Her thoughts kept churning.
The woman in black looked at the woman's expression, feeling a sense of helplessness. She herself wanted to know her master's true identity and the secret of the scroll, but she understood that under her master's authority, they could only obey orders and could not disobey in the slightest.
"Can you take me with you on this mission?" The woman's eyes were full of anticipation, and her tone was a little anxious.
"No, you just stay here." The woman in black refused decisively with a stern look.
"But I also want to go out and take a look." The woman said unwillingly, with a longing look on her face.
The woman in black frowned slightly. "It's very dangerous outside. You can't handle it. Don't be willful. Stay here and stay."
The woman lowered her head in frustration. "I've been staying here and I'm almost bored to death. I also want to do something for the master. I don't want to be idle all the time."
The woman in black looked at the woman's lost expression, her heart faltering slightly, but she quickly regained her resolve. "This is the master's order, and we must obey. Don't let your imagination run wild. When the time is right, the master will naturally make arrangements."
In this quiet room, the woman's request was ruthlessly rejected by the woman in black. Her longing felt like a bucket of cold water, but she didn't give up. She secretly decided to find a chance to go out and see more opportunities. The woman in black, on the other hand, guarded the scroll vigilantly, knowing she shouldered a heavy responsibility and couldn't afford to neglect it even a little.
"I just looked at this scroll and there's nothing unusual about it. It's just an ordinary picture of a beauty." The woman said with a frown, her eyes full of confusion.
The woman in black glanced at her and said, "What the master wants is naturally not that simple. Don't be fooled by superficial appearances."
The woman leaned in closer to the scroll and examined it again. "But I really don't see anything special about it. While this painting of a beautiful woman is exquisite, it's not something the owner would value so highly."
The woman in black murmured, "We cannot fathom the master's thoughts. Perhaps this scroll hides some secret we don't know."
