A Shocking Dream
Chapter 50
I stared blankly at the edge of the cliff, my heart filled with regret and self-blame. If I had found a solution sooner, if I had been faster, perhaps I could have prevented all this from happening. Lin Bingshuang's stubborn figure kept appearing before my eyes, her eyes filled with an unyielding defiance of fate and a persistent fight against hatred.
The young man in white struggled mightily, tears streaming down his face. "Let me go! Let me go with her!" His voice was hoarse and shrill, heartbreaking. The people behind him held him tightly, persuading him constantly, but he wouldn't listen.
I slowly walked to the edge of the cliff and looked down. I saw only clouds and mist, and it was bottomless. Lin Bingshuang disappeared from my sight, as if she had never existed.
On this cliff, the wind still howled, as if telling the story of this tragedy. I looked at the despairing expression of the young man in white, and I wondered what kind of story there was between him and Lin Bingshuang.
I stood quietly at the edge of the cliff, lost in sorrow. The pain and loss brought by this war were already too much, and Lin Bingshuang's departure made me feel even more heavy.
I found the bodies of General Lin and his wife, carefully placing their heads alongside their bodies, burying them properly and erecting a tombstone. Looking at the simple tombstone, my heart was filled with grief and guilt. Then, I similarly buried the fallen soldiers and civilians of the Snow Country, erecting tombstones. Each tombstone seemed to tell the tragedy of this brutal war.
Not only the Snow Country, but the other three kingdoms were also harmed by the scheme I designed. I know I am a sinner for all eternity, and the heavy burden of guilt almost suffocates me. As agreed in the letter, Prince An released me. Before leaving, I handed over the blueprints, knowing that if I didn't, Prince An would not let me go.
After thirteen years of following him, I'm finally free. Looking back, I once considered giving Prince An a slow-acting poison, slowly killing him, perhaps preventing the subsequent events. But Prince An has been a wise ruler for the people of Daqi since he took the throne. It was my hesitation back then that led to the subsequent devastating outcome.
I walked alone on the desolate land, my heart filled with confusion and regret. I didn't know where to go, nor did I know what path to take. But I knew I had to bear this guilt and keep moving forward. Perhaps one day, I would find a way to atone for my mistakes.
The wind whistled in my ears, as if telling of the irretrievable past. I walked with heavy steps, gradually disappearing into the distance, leaving behind only the war-torn land and endless contemplation.
Two days after Lin Bingshuang jumped off the cliff, I was still worried about her. With some inexplicable intuition, I went ahead and found her body before anyone else. When I saw her, my heart sank. She was unrecognizable, covered in snow, and cold.
Yet, at that moment, the thought of saving her came to me. This woman, whose courage, perseverance, and loyalty I have always admired, could not let her die. I had to find a way to save her.
I knew those who were hunting her wouldn't be satisfied until they found her body. So, I sprang into action. I found a few human bones, lured out the wild tigers in the mountains, and then dropped the items that symbolized Lin Bingshuang's identity onto the ground, making them mistakenly believe that the tiger had eaten her body.
After completing all of this, I carefully brought Lin Bingshuang back to Qiuluo Mountain. In that place that had once filled me with hope and yet also plunged me into despair, I began to exhaust every possible means to save her. I didn't know if I could succeed, but I was willing to give it my all, just to enable this admirable woman to open her eyes again and continue her unfinished mission.
The autumn mountain wind is still blowing, as if witnessing my determination and efforts.
I stayed by Lin Bingshuang's side, nervously and intently flipping through the book the old man had given me, trying to find a way to save her. The ancient book, filled with mysterious spells and techniques, seemed like my last hope.
I followed the instructions in the book, carefully performing the spell, my heart filled with anticipation. However, perhaps something went wrong, or perhaps I was just not skilled enough, but at the crucial moment, a flash of white light appeared. The intense light instantly blinded me, and I passed out.
When I woke up again, everything was silent. I didn't know how much time had passed, nor how Lin Bingshuang was doing. I struggled to get up, my head splitting, but my biggest concern was still Lin Bingshuang.
I hurriedly looked towards Lin Bingshuang and found that her body had disappeared. My heart was filled with anxiety and uneasiness. What happened after that strange white light? Where did Lin Bingshuang go? Countless questions swirled in my mind.
I stood up and frantically searched around. My anxiety shattered the tranquility of Qiuluo Mountain, and the wind seemed to sigh at this sudden change. As I searched, I called out Lin Bingshuang's name, but all I heard was an empty echo.
I tried to calm myself, recalling every detail before I lost consciousness. That mysterious book, that white light—everything seemed so enigmatic. Could it be that the spell in the book had gone awry, causing Lin Bingshuang to be transported somewhere else? Or was there some mysterious force at work?
I decided to carefully study the book the old man had given me again, hoping to find a clue. I flipped through the pages, not missing a single clue. Meanwhile, I pondered other possibilities. Perhaps Lin Bingshuang had been taken away? But who would appear at this time in the deserted Qiuluo Mountain?
Anxiety and unease permeated my mind. I knew I had to find Lin Bingshuang as soon as possible. She was a cherished part of my heart, and my hope for redress. I couldn't let her vanish like this. I had to find her, no matter the cost.
In my anxious search for Lin Bingshuang, I passed by a lake. A casual glimpse of it caught my eye, but it gave me a strange glimpse. A figure reflected in the water, a figure I initially thought was me, but a closer look revealed it wasn't me.
It was a strange woman, her face stunningly beautiful yet tinged with mystery. Her eyes seemed to hold endless stories, leaving no one to fathom. I was suddenly filled with doubt. Could it be Lin Bingshuang? No, this body and this face weren't Lin Bingshuang's either.
Who was she? Why was she here? Countless questions surged through my mind. I stared blankly at my reflection in the water, as if under a spell.
