A Shocking Dream
Chapter 142 Killing the Tiger
Wan Wan was extremely anxious. She looked around and saw some sharp stones by the stream. She ran over, picked up a few, and threw them at the tiger. Although the stones did not cause serious injuries to the tiger, they did distract its attention.
Lin Wunian was extremely calm at this moment. Perhaps it was because of his past experiences, or because his heart had been hardened to incomparable strength, but he remained unmoved in the face of all these dangers. Recalling the thrilling fight with the tiger just now, every scene was as clear as if it had been carved with a knife.
The moment the tiger burst from the brush like a flash of golden lightning, it lunged straight at Lin Wunian and Kankan with a bloodthirsty roar. Its massive body stretched in the air, its sharp claws gleaming coldly in the sunlight, its bloody mouth gaping open, revealing sharp fangs, its saliva splattering and emitting a strong, fishy odor.
Lin Wunian quickly sidestepped, shielding Kankan behind her. At the same time, her right hand whipped out the sword from her waist like a gust of wind. With a swish, the blade unsheathed, its icy gleam like a cold star suddenly appearing in the night sky. She lowered her legs slightly, her center of gravity lowered, her gaze fixed on the tiger's every move. There was no fear in her eyes, only the composure and courage of a seasoned warrior.
The tiger landed with its massive claws, gouging deep furrows in the ground and sending up a cloud of dust. It spun around and attacked again, swift as an arrow from a bow. Lin Wunian, seizing the opportunity, stepped forward, facing the tiger, sword raised high, and struck down with immense force. But the tiger dodged nimbly, and the sword's blade grazed its fur, severing a nearby bush.
Lin Wunian's strike missed, so she pivoted and swung her sword backhand, stabbing the tiger in the side. The tiger reacted quickly, swinging its sturdy forelimbs. With a clang, its claws collided with the sword, sending up a shower of sparks. The overwhelming force numbed Lin Wunian's arm, but she gritted her teeth and persevered, using the force to leap back several steps.
The tiger, enraged by Lin Wunian's tenacity, let out a deafening roar that shook the entire forest. It began pacing rapidly around her, its heavy footsteps making the ground thump, and its tail lashing like a whip, rustling the surrounding grass. Suddenly, it leaped high into the air and pounced on her, claws extended, intent on knocking her down.
Lin Wunian remained calm in the face of danger. She pushed off the ground with both feet, shifting her body to the right while holding her sword across her chest. The tiger flew overhead, its sharp claws nearly scratching her cheek. The moment the tiger landed, Lin Wunian leaped forward, her sword piercing the tiger's back like a snake emerging from a den. The strike was incredibly precise, piercing deep into the tiger's flesh. The tiger, in pain, twisted its body frantically, trying to shake Lin Wunian off. Lin Wunian gripped the hilt tightly, and was thrown from side to side by the tiger's struggles, but she never let go.
After a fierce struggle, the tiger's movements gradually slowed, and blood continued to flow from the wound, staining the surrounding grass red. Lin Wunian seized the opportunity, drew his sword with all his strength, and then swung it again at the tiger's neck. This time, the blade penetrated the vital part, and the tiger's huge body fell to the ground with a thud, raising a cloud of dust.
She frowned slightly, thinking to herself: I'd actually killed a tiger. If I were in the country I once knew, with its strict animal protection policies, this action would probably lead to imprisonment. "No, no, no, don't think too much. This is the Great Revelation, no one will know." She murmured softly, shaking her head gently, as if trying to dispel this unreasonable worry from her mind.
In this unfamiliar and unknown land of Daqi, she was nothing more than a woman with a mysterious past, single-mindedly pursuing her inner beliefs. Lin Wunian looked up at the winding road ahead and took a deep breath. The air, a blend of the fragrance of earth and grass, filled her lungs, making her thoughts clearer. She turned to look at Kankan, whose face still bore a hint of the paleness of fear. She smiled softly, saying, "Let's go. Don't let these things distract you. The road ahead is long."
With that, she gently lifted the reins, urging the horse forward slowly. The horse's hooves clattered against the soft earth, making a gentle "clatter" sound that echoed through the quiet forest. Kanan followed closely behind, and their figures gradually disappeared into the depths of the jungle, leaving behind only the messy traces of a life-and-death struggle. As the breeze blew, they were gradually obscured by the power of nature, as if nothing had happened.
Lin Wunian and Kankan rode their horses slowly deeper into the jungle, not noticing anything unusual at first. But when they reached a low valley, a strange mist gradually filled the air. The mist, a faint green hue, spread silently and ghostly.
Lin Wunian's heart tightened. She pulled the reins tight, watching her surroundings warily. "There's something wrong with this fog. I'm afraid it's a poisonous miasma," she whispered, pulling a handkerchief from her bosom and handing it to Kankan. "Cover your mouth and nose, and try not to breathe in." Kankan quickly took it and obeyed.
However, the miasma's onslaught was far more swift and intense than anticipated. As the fog thickened, a rancid, pungent odor continued to seep through the cracks in the handkerchief. Lin Wunian felt her throat begin to itch, her head growing dizzy. She forced herself to steer her horse forward, knowing full well that lingering would only increase the danger.
Each step forward was incredibly difficult, and the horse seemed to be affected by the poisonous miasma, stumbling. Lin Wunian's vision blurred, and the scene before her seemed to be distorting and shaking. Her breathing became increasingly rapid, and her chest felt as if it was being pressed down by a huge rock, making it uncomfortable.
Qianqian was also feeling bad, her face flushed red and her body trembling slightly. "Sister Wunian, I feel so uncomfortable..." she said weakly. Lin Wunian gritted his teeth, reached out and held Qianqian's hand, trying to give her strength. "Hold on, we must get out of this poisonous miasma."
In the dead silence of the poisonous miasma, the only sound was the dull thud of horse hooves on fallen leaves. Lin Wunian struggled to discern the direction, relying on memory and a shred of intuition as she guided her horse through the haze. Sweat soaked her clothes, but the chill of the miasma quickly cooled her, icing her skin.
Suddenly, a massive dead tree appeared ahead, straddling the road. Lin Wunian strained to tug at the reins, trying to maneuver the horse around it. But her arms felt like they weighed a thousand pounds, and her movements became slow and clumsy. After finally skirting the tree, the horse stumbled, nearly throwing them off.
Lin Wunian held the horse's belly tightly, steadied his body, and continued to move forward in this poisonous "devil's cave", fighting a silent battle with death every moment.
