Just as I was about to glance at the number, the phone rang, and it was this unfamiliar number calling.

Guo Huai-ren thought about it and accepted the offer anyway. He wanted to see what tricks Hou Liangping was up to.

"See, Director Guo, I wasn't wrong, was I?"

Guo Huai-ren scoffed, "That's right, there are a few petty thieves following me, but it's nothing serious."

The man said urgently, "Director Guo, you can't be careless. Do you know who is investigating you this time?"

Guo Huai-ren said, "I know a little bit about him. He's just a lawless little monkey."

"Since you know this, you should be familiar with the history of this little monkey."

Guo Huai-ren realized something was amiss. What? This person wasn't arranged by Hou Liangping?

“I have done nothing wrong, and I don’t believe he would dare to do anything to me.”

The man gave a wry smile: "Director Guo, you really are stubborn, you won't turn back until you hit a brick wall." He paused and then said, "Do you know Qian Zhaoyi?"

"I know him. I heard he got into trouble because of this little rascal."

"I am Qian Zhaoyi," the man stated, identifying himself.

Guo Huai-ren was taken aback. "You are Qian Zhaoyi."

"It's genuine. If you don't believe me, we can meet."

Guo Huai-ren believed him to some extent. He had dealt with Qian Zhao-yi a few times before, but they hadn't been in contact for a long time and he had almost forgotten about it.

As soon as the other party revealed their identity, he remembered their voice; it was indeed Qian Zhaoyi's voice.

"No need, I recognize your voice, Director Qian. Why would you call me?"

Qian Zhaoyi said with a wry smile, "Director Guo, let me be frank with you, I want to make a deal with you."

"What deal?"

“I have some connections in the procuratorate and can help you resolve this trouble. In return, I hope you can introduce me to someone.”

Guo Huai-ren suddenly realized: "Qi Tong-wei?"

"Yes."

What do you want to see him for?

"Director Guo, we're all seasoned veterans of the officialdom, is there any need to spell this out?" Qian Zhaoyi's voice carried a hint of self-deprecation. "Naturally, it's all for career advancement."

“That might be difficult,” Guo Huai-ren said bluntly. “Director Qian, you have been a director-level cadre for many years. Although Qi Tongwei is a vice-provincial level official, he may not be able to provide any substantial help if you want to advance further.”

“Others may not be able to, but Qi Tongwei definitely can.” Qian Zhaoyi’s tone was firm, with an unwavering determination. “Besides, I don’t have high expectations. I’m fine with being a full-fledged department-level official. I just want a position with real power—not the kind of empty title that has less power than a township head.”

Guo Huai-ren fell silent, tapping his knuckles lightly on the edge of the table twice. In officialdom, introductions were always a matter of great importance, and a single misstep could lead to disaster.

He dared not agree rashly and said in a deep voice, "I can't make the decision on this matter. I have to ask Tongwei's opinion first."

"No problem, I'll wait for you. To show my sincerity, I'll tell you something."

"what news?"

"This afternoon, Hou Liangping submitted a report to the Provincial Party Committee and the Procuratorate to order you to undergo a double-regulation investigation. I think it will happen in the next day or two, so you need to prepare as soon as possible."

Guo Huai-ren said, "Director Qian, this isn't sincerity, it's laying bare your secrets. Aren't you afraid I'll renege on my promise?"

“I believe you won’t. Even if you turn your back on me, I will still tell you the news. Compared to progress, I would rather see Hou Liangping suffer.”
