Ten diligent days: the fields are still

Chapter 267: Searching for the Mountain

Yuan Lai and Zhao Li began searching carefully through every book, every map, and every relevant text in the library at noon, hoping to find the mysterious mountain that matched the description.

However, time passed minute by minute, until the lights in the library gradually dimmed, announcing its imminent closing, and they still found nothing.

Yuan Lai gently took Zhao Li's hand, slowly stood up and left.

When the two reached the dormitory door, they were suddenly stopped by the stern-looking dormitory manager. She shouted, "People not affiliated with the school are not allowed to stay overnight! This is the rule!"

Upon hearing this, Yuan Lai pleaded, "Auntie, it's so late, and I can't ask the teacher for leave at the last minute. It's so unsafe to let an eight-year-old go back alone! What if she runs into some bad guys?"

After much pleading, the dorm manager finally relented. She frowned, thought for a moment, then reluctantly nodded and said, "Okay, okay, she can stay overnight, but you're fully responsible. If anything happens, it won't be the school's fault!" Then, she turned around, pulled out a waiver from her drawer, and handed it to Yuan Lai.

Yuan Lai took the pen without hesitation, quickly signed his name on the agreement, then hugged Zhao Li and walked upstairs.

When he pushed open the dormitory door, it was pitch black inside. Yuan Lai reached out and groped the wall, finding the light switch. He flicked it lightly, and the room was instantly illuminated by bright light.

"Is there no one in your dormitory?"

Zhaoli looked around curiously.

"Summer vacation is coming soon, and they all left school early after their exams to find part-time jobs."

Yuan Lai reached out and drew aside the bed curtains with a deft movement. She gathered her belongings and locked them one by one in the closet.

Then, she turned and looked at Zhao Li, who was sitting on a chair with his legs swinging, and said calmly, "There's only one single bed here, Zhao Zhao, you'll have to sleep in this room by yourself tonight. I'm going to stay in the dormitory next door for the night. I'll come and wake you up tomorrow morning."

When Zhao Li heard this, a look of fear appeared on her face. She muttered, "I'm afraid of the dark!" As she spoke, tears began to glisten in her eyes.

However, Yuan Lai seemed not to notice Zhao Li's fear and simply responded calmly: "If you are really afraid of the dark, then sleep with the lights on."

This time, Zhao Li was not going to stand it anymore. She angrily took out a cell phone from her pocket and shouted, "You are so cruel to me, I must complain! I want to sue you for abusing me!" Then, she tapped her fingers on the screen quickly, trying to call Qi Rong.

Man proposes, God disposes. Perhaps because he was too anxious or not familiar with the operation, Zhao Li accidentally called Yuan Lai.

Yuan Lai's cell phone rang suddenly. She glanced at the caller ID, shook her head helplessly, and then hung up the phone without hesitation.

Then, Yuan Lai patiently explained to Zhao Li again: "It is too dangerous for two grown people to squeeze on the upper bunk. What if they accidentally fall down? Even if you call Qi Rong now, he will definitely agree with my decision." After that, Yuan Lai walked out of the room without looking back, leaving Zhao Li alone in the dormitory.

When Yuan Lai reached the door, she paused for a moment and put her ear to the door, trying to listen to what was going on inside.

As expected, the sound of Zhao Li's loud crying soon filled the room. However, what made Yuan Lai feel a little amused and helpless was that the crying lasted less than two seconds before turning into a cheerful song...

He still has the mind of a child.

The next day, before Yuan Lai finished washing his face, Zhao Li rushed into the house excitedly, "I know where Cangkong Mountain is!"

Yuan Lai rinsed off the cleanser, dried it with a towel, and asked, "Zhao Zhao is amazing. He got a clue so quickly."

Zhao Li circled around, waiting for Yuan Lai to change her clothes, then took her out of the school and hailed a taxi at the door.

The driver asked, "Where are you going?"

"Go south first."

The vehicle was driving on the road, Zhao Li stared out the window intently, and from time to time he would point in a certain direction to signal the driver to adjust the route.

As the car headed south, the surrounding scenery gradually became more desolate. The dense trees on both sides of the road began to thin out, replaced by patches of withered grass and undulating hills.

Yuan Lai felt a little uneasy, but seeing Zhao Li's confident expression, she felt a little more at ease. She turned to look at Zhao Li and asked, "Are you sure Cangkong Mountain is in this direction?"

Zhao Li nodded and said affirmatively: "Don't worry, my judgment will not be wrong. I observed it for a long time last night!"

As they were talking, a fork in the road appeared ahead. The driver slowed down and turned back to ask, "Little girl, which way should we go next?"

Zhao Li pointed to the road on the right without hesitation and said, "Go this way."

The car continued to move forward, and after an unknown amount of time, it finally arrived at a relatively open area. It was surrounded by towering mountains that looked quite spectacular.

Zhao Li excitedly pointed at one of the mountains and shouted, "Stop, that's it!"

Yuan Lai looked at the extremely familiar scenery and was shocked beyond words.

Isn’t Yunlin Temple just in front?

As soon as Zhao Li got out of the car, she couldn't contain her excitement and rushed out like an arrow, aiming directly at the mysterious mountain she had just glimpsed from afar.

Yuan Lai reacted quickly, reaching out like lightning to grab Zhao Li and dragging her to buy tickets to the scenic area.

"A familiar smell! It must be here!" Zhao Li shouted excitedly. Before he finished speaking, he rushed forward like a gust of wind and left Yuan Lai far behind in the blink of an eye.

Yuan Lai looked at the scenery before him, which was completely different from the description, and couldn't help but feel doubtful: Is it really Feilai Peak? How could it be possible! But seeing how confident Zhao Li was, it didn't seem like he was lying..."

Zhao Li walked briskly and reached the top easily. In contrast, Yuan Lai was in a much worse state, panting all the way and struggling to catch up with Zhao Li.

However, when she finally reached the top of the mountain, she was surprised to find that Zhao Li had taken out a brightly colored plastic shovel from his pocket at some point.

Before Yuan Lai could ask, Zhao Li had already raised his shovel and shouted, "Start digging!"

Then he swung the shovel without hesitation and dug hard into the ground.

Seeing this, Yuan Lai slumped down on the ground and asked in confusion, "Zhao Zhao, what are you digging?"

Zhao Li didn't even raise his head, and while digging hard, he replied: "Cangkong Mountain is hidden at the bottom of this mountain. As long as I can dig a big hole at the top of the mountain, I can find it!" After that, the movements of his hands became faster and faster.
