Rebirth of the Scumbag and the Retribution of the White Lotus
Chapter 41 Undercurrent surging
Zhao Shufang sat at her desk in her study, her brow furrowed. The sound of rain pattering against the glass outside cast a gloomy, melancholic atmosphere. She looked down at the documents in her hands, which contained detailed information about Li Xin's business and personal relationships. While the photos and information Cheng Jie had given her had surprised her, she knew all too well that this was just the tip of the iceberg; the real challenge lay ahead.
She picked up her phone and sent a message to Li Ting: "Li Xin's background is more complicated than we thought. He has someone behind him. I may need more help."
Li Ting quickly replied, "I know, the company has been following up on your case recently. Don't worry, the plan has been launched, and everything will be under control."
Zhao Shufang felt a slight relief as she read the words on the screen. She knew that Li Ting's words were not groundless. Li Ting was not only a leader in the business world, but also one of the people she trusted most. Without her support, she would have no chance of making it in the business world.
Suddenly, a rapid knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. Zhao Shufang looked up and said calmly, "Come in."
The door was pushed open, and a uniformed secretary walked in. He was holding a letter in his hand, his expression somewhat solemn: "Miss Zhao, this is the letter that just arrived. Please take a look."
Zhao Shufang took the envelope and opened it. The handwriting was vigorous and powerful, and the content was simple but meaningful:
"You don't belong to this world, get out of here."
There was no signature on the letter, but from the sense of oppression and hidden threat between the lines, Zhao Shufang could guess that this was another warning from Li Xin or the forces behind him.
She smiled slightly, put the letter on the table, her eyes showing a chill: "This Li Xin is getting more and more interesting."
The secretary stood aside, somewhat hesitantly: "Ms. Zhao, what do you think of this letter?"
Zhao Shufang was silent for a moment, then gently pushed aside the documents on the table. "Tell them to continue monitoring Li Xin and his movements, and try not to alert them." She paused, her eyes darkening. "These people aren't worth my time confronting head-on. We need to attack from another angle."
The secretary nodded, understanding: "Understood, I'll arrange it."
Zhao Shufang waved her hand, signaling him to leave. The secretary turned and left, and silence returned to the room.
Zhao Shufang stood up and walked to the window, looking out at the rain, her eyes thoughtful. She had always known that Li Xin's threats to her weren't made out of thin air. There must be a deeper conspiracy behind this pressure, and her mission now was to find the real culprit.
The ringing of the phone broke her thoughts. Zhao Shufang picked up the phone and saw that it was Li Ting calling.
"Hello, Li Ting, is there any progress?" Zhao Shufang's tone was calm, but her speech speed unconsciously quickened a bit.
"Zhao Shufang, our plan is proceeding smoothly, but I must remind you of something." Li Ting's voice was calm, yet there was a hint of nervousness in her words. "Li Xin's backing isn't just Gao Jianguo. His other backer is a highly powerful general in the military named Zhao Yongkang."
Zhao Shufang's heart sank suddenly and her expression changed slightly: "A general in the military? Zhao Yongkang?" She was not unfamiliar with this name. Zhao Yongkang's reputation and influence in the military were comparable to those of a local tycoon, and his relationship with Li Xin was obviously no longer as simple as a simple business competition.
"That's right. Although Zhao Yongkang rarely appears in public, the interests behind him are enormous, covering almost the entire military, political, and business circles of the southeastern coastal area. Li Xin is just one of his pawns." Li Ting said in a low voice, "And you have become a thorn in their side."
Zhao Shufang took a deep breath and suppressed the turmoil in her heart: "It seems that my situation is more complicated than I thought."
Li Ting didn't answer immediately, but was silent for a moment. "Zhao Shufang, although we have some means, this struggle is no longer just a business war. If you want to continue, I'm afraid you need to make more preparations."
A glint of determination flashed in Zhao Shufang's eyes. "I know. Now that I've made the decision, there's no turning back. Li Ting, please keep a close eye on Li Xin. All actions must be swift."
"Don't worry, I will do my best to protect your safety." Li Ting's voice was firm.
Zhao Shufang hung up the phone and stared deeply at the documents in her hands. This struggle was far more complicated than she had expected. The forces behind Li Xin were far beyond her control.
But she had no intention of backing down. She remembered the vow she had made: no matter how difficult it was, she would never let herself fall into that predicament of being manipulated by others again.
She picked up the documents again and began to analyze every detail behind them. She knew that time was running out. Li Xin and Gao Jianguo's next move might be implemented soon, and she had to get ahead of them and make all the preparations.
Just then, there was a slight knock on the door. Zhao Shufang looked up and saw the secretary at the door come in again.
"Ms. Zhao, Mr. Cheng called and said he needs to discuss something with you." The secretary said respectfully.
Zhao Shufang was stunned for a moment, then nodded: "Okay, please arrange it."
Cheng Jie's appearance disrupted her thoughts. She knew that regardless of whether he was friend or foe, Cheng Jie's status and resources could provide her with some help. She couldn't simply rely on Li Ting. The business world was complex and intricate. She needed more allies and more information.
Not long after, Cheng Jie appeared at the door of Zhao Shufang's study on time and walked in with a smile: "Ms. Zhao, business has been very busy recently. I wonder if you are free to talk to me?"
Zhao Shufang put down the documents in her hand, looked directly into Cheng Jie's eyes, and said calmly: "Mr. Cheng, what's the matter?"
Cheng Jie approached the table and said softly, "I know you've been feeling a little uneasy lately. Li Xin's situation has become increasingly complicated. I think you might need a stronger supporter."
Zhao Shufang raised her eyebrows slightly, remaining calm: "What do you suggest?"
Cheng Jie smiled, his eyes full of meaning: "I can provide you with some resources, but you have to think carefully, there is a price to pay for standing on the side."
Zhao Shufang looked at him and was silent for a moment. "What I need is strength, not dependence." Her eyes revealed a calmness. "However, if your suggestion can help me, I can consider it."
Cheng Jie nodded slightly, clearly already having some plans in place. He looked Zhao Shufang in the eye with a playful smile, "Then let's have a good chat."
Zhao Shufang looked at him, secretly trying to figure out Cheng Jie's true intentions. She knew that this game had just begun, and she would never lose easily.
