Chapter 33 Lin Feng

Calling it a corpse isn't quite accurate, because the moment he entered the body, Wu Ming discovered that the soul of this body still existed within it. If it hadn't been treated, it might have truly become a corpse. But now that the soul was still there, there was still a chance of resurrection, though ordinary people couldn't. Furthermore, the soul of this body was still in a deep sleep, and Wu Ming's consciousness had entered this body. If Wu Ming wanted to, he could have destroyed the soul, truly usurping the magpie's nest. However, Wu Ming didn't do that. Occupying another's body and then destroying their soul was something Wu Ming couldn't do. He decided to keep the soul for now, using his spiritual consciousness to bind it within his mind. Even if the soul revived, it would only be a spectator, like a long dream. After Wu Ming left, he would be able to regain control of this body.

Because the soul of this body was dormant, it was currently defenseless. To understand its current state, Wu Ming's spiritual consciousness gently touched the soul, and a sudden influx of information flooded into his mind. The original owner of this body was Lin Feng, the third son of Lin Jinxian, the head of the Lin family, one of Qingshi City's three major families. Because his mother was a servant, Lin Jinxian once got drunk and unintentionally favored her, which led to Lin Feng's birth. His mother died during his birth, so he was not well-received by his family. This time, he was invited by several playboys from the three major families to go on an adventure. As a result, they were attacked by a group of men in black. Lin Feng was killed by the men in black, while the others were not seriously injured. Wu Ming saw this as a setup, deliberately luring Lin Feng out and killing him. He didn't know whether it was due to internal reasons within the Lin family or the feud between the three major families.

Setting that aside, we first needed to clarify what kind of territory this was and how it was divided into different power levels. Through Lin Feng's soul, we learned that this was a misty forest dozens of miles outside of Qingshi City, inhabited by various magical beasts. It was typically a place for warriors from Qingshi City and several nearby cities to undergo trials and adventures. Qingshi City was a remote city in the northeastern region of Tianfeng Kingdom. The City Lord's Mansion reigned supreme, while the three major families—the Lin, Xiao, and Bai—were the strongest. Warriors were categorized as being at the Body Refining Realm, the Blood Qi Realm, and the Sky Control Realm. Each of the three major families possessed warriors at the Blood Qi Realm. While the Blood Qi Realm might not be considered significant in Tianfeng Kingdom, it commanded considerable power in Qingshi City, making it a powerful force within the region. As the third son of the Lin family, Lin Feng, though not particularly well-received within the family, had reached the fifth level of the Body Refining Realm. While not as talented as the three major families, he was still considered above average.

Wu Ming first scanned his current body with his spiritual sense and discovered that the fifth level of Body Refining was equivalent to his original body's Tendon Refining stage. By that calculation, the Blood Qi Realm might be similar to the Qi Refining stage. Further investigation would be needed to determine the specifics. The most urgent task now was to return to Bluestone City. Otherwise, with the injuries on this body, if they encountered a demon beast, they would be reduced to excrement.

Fortunately, this was only the outskirts of the Misty Forest. Within an hour, Wu Ming had left the forest and spotted a road, along with warriors hurrying along. The warriors on the road, upon seeing the severely injured Wu Ming, didn't hesitate. They saw him as just another young man adventuring into the Misty Forest, having escaped after being severely injured or wiped out by a monster. Countless people saw this every day, so everyone was used to it.

Seeing that no one was chasing Wu Ming, he felt relieved. He probably thought the men in black thought he was dead, so he could return safely. Another half hour passed, and Wu Ming finally returned to the mansion he remembered.

The Lin Mansion is a mansion located south of Qingshi City. The plaque bears the majestic inscription "Lin Mansion," clearly a work of art by a renowned master. The vermilion gate exudes an ancient charm, while the courtyard, encircled by whitewashed walls and overhanging green willows, reveals at a glance that this is a family of deep wealth and long-standing connections, not a newly minted fortune. Indeed, the Lin Mansion has been established for over two hundred years, having endured through generations.

While Wu Ming was still observing, he heard a servant from the gatehouse call out, "Third Young Master, what happened to you? You're so badly injured! I'll go report this to the master."

He hurried inside the mansion. Before Wu Ming could stop him, he slowly made his way inside, still trying to reconcile his memories with reality to avoid any sense of disparity. The mansion was enormous, forming a three-way, multi-entry quadrangle courtyard with a strict central axis. The layout was orderly and well-organized. Pavilions, terraces, and towers, with their eaves and green tiles, intertwined and twisted, creating a refined and elegant atmosphere, yet still imposing and majestic.

While Wu Ming was still observing, the doorman arrived with a group of people. Leading the way was a stern-looking middle-aged man with a small goatee, dressed in a purple robe, and walking with a brisk gait. Behind him was a young man, about twenty years old, dressed in a blue suit. Following him were several servants. They were Lin Feng's father and eldest brother.

"Help the Third Young Master to the hall. He has no tact at all." Lin Jinxian ordered, and two servants emerged from behind him, carrying Wu Ming into the hall. Lin Jinxian first felt Wu Ming's pulse, then nervously pulled out a medicine bottle from his pocket, poured out a pill, and fed it directly into Wu Ming's mouth. Wu Ming tasted it, knowing it was medicine for his injuries, and swallowed it.

Only then did Lin Jinxian regain his nervous expression and said, "Why are you injured so badly? Who injured you? Fortunately, I have the Nine-Turn Jade Dew Pill on me, otherwise this injury would be difficult to cure." When Wu Ming heard Lin Jinxian's question, he told him what he remembered before.

"The Xiao family, the Bai family, it's them again, they still have evil intentions. You too, I've told you so many times, our three families are rivals, yet you are still so close to them. I've never seen you so close to my own elder brother and second sister. If you weren't lucky this time, do you think you would still be standing here now?" Lin Jinxian said with regret.

Wu Ming learned from his memories that Lin Feng wasn't actually unwelcome in the Lin Mansion. He simply grew up without a mother, and his father was often authoritarian. This feeling of being unwelcome stemmed from a lack of love and excessive low self-esteem. Therefore, he preferred to be close to outsiders rather than his own family, though he simply didn't see it that way. Lin Jinxian saw this and was worried, but he couldn't say anything. After all, as the head of the Lin family, he was more focused on family matters.

"Yes, third brother, the Bai family and the Xiao family are not good people. Have less contact with them. I've told you many times." said the eldest brother Lin Hao.

If it were Lin Feng, he would have to refute his father and brother at this time, but now this body is controlled by Wu Ming, so of course he will not be angry with them because he knows they are right.

"Father, brother, I was ignorant before. I know I was wrong and I won't do it again." Wu Mingdao.

Hearing Wu Ming say this, Lin Jinxian and Lin Hao were stunned. They had expected Lin Feng to refute them, but he actually admitted his mistake. Could it be that this incident had made him see the true colors of the Bai and Xiao families? If so, it would be a good thing. However, this matter could not be let go. Lin Jinxian vowed revenge for anyone who dared to hurt his son.

Seeing that Lin Feng had suddenly become sensible, Lin Jinxian asked him to go back and recuperate as soon as possible, and heal his injuries well. He also ordered people in the kitchen to cook more medicinal food for the third young master during this period. He never doubted Lin Feng's authenticity from beginning to end. But then again, the body was still the same body, the soul was still there, and he had become sensible. How could he doubt it?
