The sound of the door opening interrupted my thoughts. I froze, my gaze drawn from the darkness outside the window back inside the house. It was Wen Ya.

Wen Ya stood at the door, the dim light behind him shining on his figure, making it look a little blurry, as if he was also on the edge of some confusion.

He stood there, his eyes a bit hazy, seemingly not noticing me, and he didn't say anything. I felt an indescribable strangeness. Why was he coming home so late?

He seemed stunned for a moment, his gaze lingering on me, clearly surprised. I could tell he was at a loss for words, unsure what to say. That familiar silence hung in the air, making everything seem awkward.

His eyes darted between me and the room, his expression becoming complicated. It was as if he was trying to calmly accept everything in front of him, but he was also a little overwhelmed.

I was surprised when the words escaped my lips. I should have just asked the questions in my mind—why did he hide it from me? Why wasn't he home? Why couldn't I find him no matter where I went? But the words froze on my lips. Something seemed to clog my throat.

I just stared at him. I didn't ask anything. In the silence, I whispered, "Long time no see."

haven't seen you for a long time.

The words came out dryly, like a whisper to a memory rather than a real person. Wen Ya was slightly taken aback, as if he hadn't expected me to say this so suddenly. Then, his eyes flickered. I guess he didn't have the courage to speak.

The air fell silent again.

Wen Ya was silent for a few seconds, then looked away, as if searching for a suitable response but unable to find one. He put his hands into his pockets awkwardly, his movements appearing extremely stiff.

"You..." He finally spoke, his voice low and hesitant, "Are you okay?"

I looked up, meeting his gaze, and was stunned. Why was he asking this question?

Looking into his eyes, I don’t know if he really cares about me or if he wants to confirm something, perhaps something he himself doesn’t understand.

"I'm fine," I paused and replied softly.

Wen Ya's brow furrowed slightly. He hesitated, as if about to say something, but ultimately remained silent. The air around them grew heavier. The unspoken words seemed to pile up in the air, unable to dissipate.

He finally spoke, his voice low but gentle: "Long time no see." There was no guilt, no evasion, or even apology in his tone, only a kind of indifference that was difficult for me to grasp.

I was stunned. When he said that simple word, it sounded even more unfamiliar than the one I had just said.

Countless images flashed through my mind, and past memories emerged one by one like a kaleidoscope, but they eventually became fragmented at this moment, as if they had never really existed.

"Where have you been?" I finally couldn't help but speak, but my voice was surprisingly soft, almost as if I was asking myself, as if I was speaking to a space that no longer belonged to me. Wen Ya glanced at me, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes, as if she was hesitating whether to continue.

"Nowhere, just...something I need to take care of." His answer was brief, yet difficult to understand. He stood a little distance away from me, as if deliberately increasing the distance between us, even though we were still standing under the same roof.
