God Slayer: Make Up for the Past
Chapter 79: The Journey to Escape from the Evil Nest
The aftermath of the core explosion still reverberated through the air, choking dust thickening the air and reducing visibility to a crawl. Chu Feng coughed a few times, the dust making his throat itch, and the world before him blurry. He shook his head, trying to stay awake. The surrounding walls of the passageway flickered with an eerie red light, pulsing like blood vessels, and a heart-pounding wave of energy spread through the air.
"Oh no! This place is going to collapse, and..." Wei the Night Watchman's face was solemn. He covered his bleeding arm and said weakly, "It seems like something is about to come out."
"Damn it!" Pan Yue cursed softly as he supported Wei Shouren, his face pale as paper. The continuous fighting and the explosion had almost exhausted his spiritual power. At this moment, he even seemed to be struggling to stand steadily.
Researcher Xiong was so frightened that his face turned pale. He clutched Wei Shouren's other arm tightly, his legs trembling slightly. "What...what...what on earth is this?"
Although Tong Yongshi was reckless, he also felt the danger at this moment. He gripped the weapon in his hand tightly and looked around vigilantly.
Chu Feng took a deep breath, enduring the severe pain in his body. He felt as if his bones were falling apart. In order to destroy the core just now, he had almost exhausted all his spiritual power. Now even lifting his arm felt extremely strenuous.
"Go! Go quickly!" Chu Feng said through gritted teeth. He tried to stay calm. He knew that now was not the time to panic.
They stumbled along the marked route toward the exit, each step feeling like they were treading on a knife's edge, the pain intensifying with the strenuous movement.
"Ah!" Tong Yongshi suddenly let out a scream. His foot was pierced by the sharp spikes on the ground and he fell to the ground.
"Warrior Tong!" Chu Feng quickly turned around, only to see dense spikes growing on the walls of the passages that were flashing red light, like sharp claws extending from hell, making people shudder.
"Hurry! Don't worry about me! You go first!" Tong Yongshi shouted loudly while enduring the pain.
"No! We can't leave you behind!" Pan Yue wanted to go back to save him, but was stopped by Wei's night watchman.
"Pan Yue, calm down! Going back now would only lead to your own death!" Wei the Night Watchman said sternly, "We must leave here first before we can find a way to save him!"
The red light in the tunnel grew brighter, and the spikes became more numerous, practically blocking their escape route. A nauseating, stench filled the air, as if something horrible was about to break out of the ground.
Chu Feng's heart sank. He knew they were in a desperate situation... He looked at Pan Yue, his eyes filled with determination: "Pan Yue..."
"Pan Yue, take good care of them." Chu Feng's voice was low and firm, his eyes gleaming with determination. He gripped the broken sword tightly in his hand, the remaining warmth on the hilt seeming to impart a hint of strength to him.
"Chu Feng, what...what are you going to do?" Pan Yue noticed the strangeness in Chu Feng's tone and had an ominous premonition in his heart.
Chu Feng didn't answer, but simply gave him a deep look before turning back to the increasingly brighter depths of the passage. He took a deep breath, mobilizing all the remaining spiritual energy within him, and a powerful aura erupted from him.
"Senior Wei, take them away first! I'll cover your retreat!" Chu Feng's voice echoed in the passage with unquestionable firmness.
Wei the Night Watchman was stunned for a moment, then he understood Chu Feng's intention. He looked at Chu Feng deeply, his eyes filled with admiration and gratitude. "Okay! Take care, kid!" Without hesitation, he grabbed Pan Yue and Researcher Xiong and ran towards the exit. Tong Yongshi also followed, limping behind, supported by Pan Yue.
Chu Feng watched them walk away, a wry smile on his face. He knew the consequences of staying, but he had no choice. This was the only thing he could do for them.
The red light in the tunnel grew brighter, and the stench in the air grew stronger. Chu Feng gripped the broken sword tightly, his eyes fixed firmly on the depths of the tunnel. He knew the Evil Queen's pursuers would soon appear.
At this moment, a shrill scream came from the depths of the passage, and then a group of hideous evil spirits emerged from the darkness. They were astonishingly fast and swept towards Chu Feng like a black tide.
Chu Feng took a deep breath, a gleam of light flashing in his eyes. He raised the broken sword high, roared, and rushed towards the evil spirit rushing in front.
"kill!"
Chu Feng's decisiveness and courage gave hope to those who had been in despair. The Wei Night Watchmen, along with Pan Yue and the others, quickly evacuated along the previously marked route, their speed even faster than before. Each of them felt like they had received a shot of adrenaline, their hearts filled with the desire to escape.
However, just as they were about to reach the exit, a creepy roar came from behind them.
"Want to escape? It's not that easy!"
The pursuit troops sent by the Evil Queen caught up from behind. They were extremely fast, like black lightning, and closed the distance with them in the blink of an eye.
"Senior Wei!" Pan Yue shouted in horror.
Night Watchman Wei's face darkened. He stopped and turned to face the pursuing evil spirit, a glint of determination in his eyes. "Pan Yue, Warrior Tong, protect Researcher Bear. I'll hold them off!"
Pan Yue and Tong Yongshi exchanged a glance, each seeing the determination in the other's eyes. They knew this was a battle of life and death...
Wei the Night Watchman drew his long sword, the blade flashing with a cold light. "Come on, you beast!" he roared, charging at the pursuing evil spirit.
Wei the Night Watchman led the charge, swinging his long sword with impenetrable force, the blade slicing through the air with a sharp whistling sound. Drawing on his vast combat experience, he skillfully exploited the narrow terrain, outmaneuvering many, and forcibly held the pursuing evil spirits at bay. Each swing carried the force of thunder, each block steady as a rock.
Pan Yue and Tong Yongshi followed closely behind, their coordination seamless, one attacking, the other defending. They provided mutual cover, forming an impenetrable defensive line with the Wei Night Watchmen. Pan Yue's spiritual energy transformed into razor-sharp ice blades, piercing through the swarm of evil spirits, causing them to let out shrill cries. Although Tong Yongshi lacked spiritual power, he wielded his massive axe with unstoppable force, each blow carrying immense force, shattering the approaching evil spirits.
The passage was filled with the clashing of swords, the whirlwind of blood and flesh, and the strong smell of blood and the sickening stench of decay. Although the evil spirits were numerous, they could not exert their numerical advantage in the narrow passage and were gradually suppressed by Wei Shouren and his men.
Chu Feng, leading the way, frequently glanced back at the battle behind him, his eyes filled with concern. He knew Senior Wei and the others were trying to buy him time, and his heart was filled with gratitude and worry. He gritted his teeth and sped up, hoping to find the exit quickly and lead everyone out of this dangerous place.
He cleaved away an evil spirit that blocked his path, and without stopping, he continued to charge forward. "I must hold on!" he prayed silently in his heart.
A faint light appeared at the end of the passage, and a glimmer of hope ignited in Chu Feng's heart. The exit was right in front of him!
He turned back again, only to find Wei Shouye and his companions surrounded by an increasing number of evil spirits, their situation precarious. Wei Shouye's body was covered in wounds, his clothes stained red with blood, but he remained standing, brandishing his long sword with unwavering vigor. Pan Yue and Tong Yongshi were also exhausted, but they gritted their teeth and persevered, protecting Researcher Xiong.
Chu Feng's heart sank. He wanted to go back and provide support, but his mind told him that going back now would only make the situation worse. The only thing he could do was to find an exit as quickly as possible and give them a glimmer of hope.
He took a deep breath, suppressed the worry and anxiety in his heart, and continued to rush forward.
Finally, he rushed out of the passage and the view in front of him suddenly became clear.
But at this moment...
boom!
A huge roar came from deep within the nest, and the entire nest began to shake violently...
"What's going on?!" Chu Feng exclaimed.
