God Slayer: Make Up for the Past

Chapter 7: Restarting the Night Watch

The shadow of the Wang Xieling incident had barely dissipated when a new mission was issued. The morning sun filtered through the blinds, casting dappled shadows across the floor, but it couldn't dispel the solemn atmosphere that permeated Night Watch headquarters. Captain Zhang's solemn voice echoed through the conference room: "According to intelligence, there have been some unusual developments in the abandoned factory area on the edge of the city. You need to investigate."

Chu Feng and Pan Yue exchanged a glance, each seeing a hint of fatigue in the other's eyes, but more than that, a sense of determination. The previous battle with Wang Xieling had consumed a great deal of their spiritual energy, but as night watchmen, it was their duty to protect the peace of the city.

"Lin Yao, you go with them." Captain Zhang added.

"Yes!" Lin Yao's hearty voice broke the silence in the meeting room.

The abandoned factory district, once the heart of the city's industry, is now a shattered mess. Rusted iron doors, broken windows, and scattered mechanical parts betray its decay. A pungent metallic odor permeates the air, leaving one feeling oppressive.

"It's so eerie here, it makes me uncomfortable." Lin Yao rubbed his arms and said.

Chu Feng looked around, his sharp eyes sweeping through every corner. He found that some large equipment that should have been fixed to the ground seemed to have been moved by someone, leaving obvious dragging marks.

"There's definitely something strange going on here," Chu Feng said solemnly. "The traces of movement from these devices are very recent, and... do you sense a faint aura of evil spirits?"

Pan Yue pushed his glasses up, observed carefully, and said, "It could also be ordinary theft. Some criminals come here to steal scrap metal."

"Impossible." Chu Feng shook his head. "Look at these drag marks. They don't look like they could be caused by humans. Also, although the evil spirit aura lingering in the air is very faint, it is definitely unmistakable."

The two were arguing when they suddenly heard a strange sound, like someone whispering, but they couldn't make out the specific content. The sound was erratic, as if coming from all directions.

"Did you hear that?" Lin Yao asked vigilantly.

Chu Feng and Pan Yue nodded at the same time.

"I'll try using the detection equipment." Lin Yao took out a palm-sized metal device from her backpack. After pressing the switch, only a field of snowflakes appeared on the screen of the device.

"What's going on? The equipment seems to be interfered with here." Lin Yao frowned.

The three continued to go deeper into the factory. The strange whispers became clearer and clearer, but they still couldn't make out their content. The light around them also grew dimmer and dimmer. Even at noon, it was as dark as dusk.

Suddenly, Chu Feng slipped and stepped on a tattered iron rack. The sharp iron piece cut through his trouser leg and left a deep wound on his ankle.

"Hiss..." Chu Feng took a breath of cold air.

"Chu Feng, are you okay?" Pan Yue and Lin Yao asked with concern.

"It's okay, just a minor injury..." Chu Feng endured the pain and said, "Let's keep going."

He raised his head and looked at the dark passage ahead, a hint of uneasiness flashing in his eyes... It seemed that something was watching them from the depths of the passage.

Chu Feng gritted his teeth, waves of pain pounding through his ankle. Blood seeped down his trouser leg, staining the surrounding dust red. He tried his best to maintain his balance, hiding his pain from his face. He didn't want to worry Pan Yue and Lin Yao, and he didn't want to drag down the entire team because of this small injury.

"It's okay, just a minor injury..." Chu Feng emphasized again, but his tone was weaker than before.

Pan Yue looked at Chu Feng's pale face and bloody trouser legs, and his heart was filled with worry. He knew that Chu Feng had a stubborn character and would not show weakness easily unless it was absolutely necessary.

"Chu Feng, your injury..." Pan Yue hesitated to speak. He knew that Chu Feng would not give up the mission easily, but continuing like this would only make his injury worse.

Lin Yao also noticed Chu Feng's abnormality. She took out a small first aid kit from her backpack and said, "Let's simply treat the wound first. This won't work."

Chu Feng was about to refuse, but Lin Yao immediately squatted down, carefully rolled up his trouser leg, and examined the wound. The wound was deeper than expected, and blood was still gushing out. Lin Yao expertly cleaned the wound, rinsed it with disinfectant, and then bandaged it.

"Thank you." Chu Feng whispered, the pain made him feel a little weak.

Although a simple bandage had stopped the bleeding, the wound still hurt, and every step felt like a needle prick. Chu Feng endured the discomfort and continued to follow Pan Yue and Lin Yao through the dimly lit factory. The strange whispers still echoed in his ears, as if countless ghosts were whispering, making him feel creepy.

They walked along a narrow passage, the surrounding environment became more and more oppressive, and the air was filled with a smell of decay. They lost their way, as if they were in a huge maze, unable to find an exit or any clues.

Just as they were lost in thought, Old Man Zhao's voice came from the communication device, with a hint of anxiety: "Hello? Hello? Can you hear me? Xiao Chu, how are things going over there?"

"Old man Zhao? We are lost, and the environment here is very strange..." Chu Feng briefly reported the situation.

"Xiao Chu, I've found some information about this abandoned factory. The situation might be more serious than you think!" Old Man Zhao's tone turned serious. "This factory used to be an experimental base for a mysterious organization. They say they conducted some forbidden experiments here, and there might be some powerful evil spirits left!"

This news made the three of them feel depressed, as they realized that they might be involved in a huge conspiracy.

"I understand. We will be careful." Chu Feng took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down.

After the communication was interrupted, the three of them fell into a brief silence.

"It seems we have to be more careful." Pan Yue pushed his glasses, a serious look flashing in his eyes.

Lin Yao gripped the weapon tightly in her hand and observed the surrounding environment vigilantly.

Chu Feng's eyes fell on some strange symbols on the ground. He seemed to have seen these symbols somewhere before... He squatted down and carefully observed them. Suddenly, some fragments flashed through his mind. They were the scenes he had seen during the previous battle with the evil spirit...

"These symbols..." Chu Feng pointed at the symbols on the ground with a hint of excitement in his tone, "I seem to know what these symbols are..." He recalled the scene of the previous battle with evil spirits. Similar runes were flashing on the bodies of those evil spirits. He didn't care at the time. Now it seems that these runes may be the key to the power of the evil spirits.

"These runes seem to be the flow trajectory of a kind of energy," Chu Feng said, pointing to one of the symbols. "Look, the direction of this symbol is very similar to the attack method of the evil spirits we encountered before."

Pan Yue pushed his glasses up and carefully observed the runes on the ground. After a moment's silence, he said, "Indeed, these runes may represent some kind of evil ritual or source of power."

Lin Yao also came over. She didn't know much about runes, but she believed in Chu Feng's judgment: "If we can decipher the meaning of these runes, maybe we can find a way to deal with these evil spirits."

Chu Feng's discovery rekindled the hope of the three people, and they began to search along the rune's track, hoping to find more clues.

At this moment, a chilling aura blew over him, and the air around him seemed to freeze. The runes on the ground suddenly lit up, emitting an eerie glow.

"Be careful!" Chu Feng shouted, and several small evil spirits rushed out from the darkness and attacked them.

Chu Feng quickly drew his weapon to block the sharp claws of an evil spirit. He used his newly learned night watch skills to nimbly dodge the evil spirit's attacks while looking for opportunities to counterattack.

Pan Yue calmly analyzed the evil spirits' attack patterns, searching for their weaknesses. He discovered that these small evil spirits were very fast, but their attack power was relatively weak, and they seemed to be afraid of a certain type of light.

Lin Yao stood guard beside Chu Feng, protecting him from attacks from the side. Chu Feng's foot injury had not yet fully recovered, and he was unable to move around easily, so Lin Yao's protection was crucial.

The evil spirits' attacks became more and more fierce, and they kept changing their attack methods, trying to break through the defenses of the three people. Chu Feng, Pan Yue and Lin Yao cooperated with each other and barely resisted the evil spirits' attacks, but the situation was still very critical.

Chu Feng gritted his teeth, knowing he couldn't continue this passive defense. He took a deep breath, mobilized all his strength, and launched a powerful attack, knocking one of the evil spirits back several meters.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Pan Yue also found the weakness of the evil spirit. He used the special device in his hand to emit a light of a special frequency and shine it on the evil spirit.

The evil spirit illuminated by the light let out a shrill cry, its body began to twist and deform, and finally turned into a wisp of black smoke and disappeared.

Seeing this scene, Chu Feng and Lin Yao were cheered up. They knew that they had found a way to deal with these evil spirits.

They continued to coordinate their attacks, using Pan Yue's special device to eliminate these small evil spirits one by one.

Just when they thought the battle was over, a massive evil spirit loomed in the darkness, emitting a powerful aura, like a gaze from the abyss. It seemed to be the mastermind behind these smaller evil spirits, its blood-red eyes fixed intently on Chu Feng and the others, as if foreshadowing a greater threat to come. This massive figure, having just endured a fierce battle, made the three men feel suffocated.

"It seems that we have found the place..." Chu Feng looked at the entrance of the ancient temple with a low voice.
