God Slayer: Make Up for the Past
Chapter 66: Exploring the Evil Spirit's Lair
With a creak, the heavy wooden door swung open, and a thick, almost insoluble, evil aura rushed towards them, bringing a biting chill that seemed to devour Chu Feng and Pan Yue. The interior of the theater was pitch black, with only a few rays of pale moonlight shining through the broken windows, outlining the shattered seats and stage, adding a touch of eerie horror.
"Be careful." Chu Feng warned in a low voice and stepped into the theater first.
A powerful force suddenly hit Chu Feng, and he groaned. He stumbled back a few steps and bumped into Pan Yue behind him. Pan Yue quickly supported him, "Chu Feng, are you okay?"
Chu Feng shook his head, his face pale. The force had come so suddenly that he hadn't even had time to react. It wasn't just a physical shock, it was more like some kind of mental attack, leaving him dizzy and his willpower somewhat shaken.
The evil spirits in the theater were even thicker than outside, like countless tiny insects burrowing into their pores, corroding their bodies and minds. Chu Feng felt nauseous, his stomach churning. He suppressed the discomfort, gripped the dagger tightly in his hand, and looked around vigilantly.
"There seems to be no one here..." Pan Yue's voice trembled a little. He stuck close to Chu Feng, not daring to relax at all.
The empty theater was completely silent, with only the sound of their breathing echoing. This eerie silence was more terrifying than any noise.
"Watch your step," Chu Feng warned. He noticed some gravel and wooden planks scattered on the ground, which seemed to be traces of some kind of trap.
They advanced cautiously, taking every step with extreme caution. Everything in the theater seemed eerie. The tattered curtain fluttered gently in the breeze, like a ghost's spirit banner; the stage props were scattered all over the floor, as if they had just experienced a fierce battle; the seats in the auditorium were tilted, like countless distorted faces, mocking their ignorance.
"Chu Feng, look..." Pan Yue pointed to the center of the stage, his voice filled with a hint of fear.
In the center of the stage, a pale moonlight shone down, forming a circular area. In the moonlight, a vague figure, seemingly a woman, was looming.
"Florist?" Chu Feng's heart tightened. Could it be that the florist was trapped here?
He was about to step forward when he suddenly felt something under his feet. With a slight click, the ground suddenly collapsed, and Chu Feng's body instantly lost its balance and fell downwards.
"Chu Feng!" Pan Yue exclaimed and reached out to grab him, but it was too late.
Chu Feng felt dizzy and then fell heavily to the ground. He struggled to get up and found himself in a small space. It was pitch black and he couldn't see his hand in front of him.
"Pan Yue?" He called out tentatively, but received no response.
There was a rustling sound overhead, as if something was crawling. Chu Feng's heart trembled, and he gripped the dagger tightly in his hand, looking up vigilantly.
"It seems... we are separated..." A cold voice sounded in the darkness.
Chu Feng clenched his teeth, a pounding headache threatening to tear his consciousness apart. The evil spirit's aura, like a maggot in his bones, continuously eroded his body, attempting to break his will. Cold sweat soaked his clothes, but his eyes remained remarkably firm. He took a deep breath, mobilizing the remaining spiritual energy within him, circulating it through his meridians, resisting the invasion of the evil spirit's aura. It felt like being in an ice cellar, yet being burned by a raging fire. The pain was immense, yet the clarity of mind was remarkable.
He groped the wall, the roughness of the touch reassuring him. The space was cramped, the air stagnant, and filled with a sickening stench of decay. The rustling sound overhead grew clearer, as if something were slowly crawling down the wall. Chu Feng held his breath, trying to remain calm. He knew panic would only hasten his demise.
Closing his eyes, the scene he'd seen in the theater before flashed through his mind. Broken seats, scattered props, crooked wooden planks... Wait! Crooked wooden planks! Chu Feng suddenly opened his eyes, and a thought flashed through his mind. Those seemingly disorganized wooden planks were actually the triggering mechanism of some kind! The spot where he'd missed his step was the trigger point for one of these mechanisms.
He recalled how, upon entering the theater, his body instinctively avoided several seemingly safe yet inexplicably unsettling areas. Now he understood that this was his subconscious anticipation of danger. This anticipation stemmed from his Goldfinger ability—a brief rewind in time. Although he didn't actively use it, it seemed to subtly influence his judgment, allowing him to sense danger in advance.
At this thought, a glimmer of hope ignited in Chu Feng's heart. He took a deep breath, concentrated his mind, and tried to recall every detail he had seen in the theater. The scratches on the ground, the cracks in the wall, even the dust floating in the air... everything reassembled in his mind, forming a clear picture.
He discovered that the passages inside the theater were not completely closed, but rather contained hidden passages and traps. As long as he could find the right path, he could avoid most of the traps and even go directly to deeper parts of the theater.
Chu Feng cautiously groped his way forward along the route he remembered. He avoided areas that seemed safe, and instead chose places that seemed dangerous but were consistent with the route he remembered.
Sure enough, he successfully avoided several deadly traps and even discovered a secret passage leading to the basement of the theater. Following the secret passage down, he came to a spacious underground space.
The light here was slightly brighter than above, and he could barely see the surrounding environment. Chu Feng was shocked to find that there were many people imprisoned here. They were ragged, with haggard faces and empty eyes, like the walking dead.
They are all innocent people who were captured by the evil spirit Ding and used for experiments!
Chu Feng's heart sank. He had only wanted to find the flower artist and resolve the evil spirit incident, but he hadn't expected to find so many imprisoned people here. He knew he had to save them.
But he also understood that rescuing these people would inevitably alert Ding, the evil spirit manipulator, and even lead to greater danger.
Just as he was hesitating, a weak voice came from the corner: "Save...save me..."
Chu Feng clenched his fists, his eyes determined. "Pan Yue, wait for me," he said softly, then walked towards the prisoners.
Suddenly, a burst of hurried footsteps came from afar, accompanied by the sound of metal colliding, breaking the silence in the basement.
"Who is it?!" A rough voice sounded at the entrance of the passage.
Several men in black rushed into the passage, wielding sharp blades and glaring with cold eyes. They spread out in a well-trained formation, surrounding Chu Feng. The leader was a burly figure with a hideous scar across his face. He smirked at Chu Feng and said, "Boy, are you that nosy night watchman? You're so bold as to break into our lair!"
Chu Feng glanced at the crowd, assessing the situation in his mind. Although these people were merely minions of the evil spirit manipulator, their strength should not be underestimated, and they worked well together. A head-on confrontation would likely yield no advantage. He took a deep breath and said in a deep voice, "You are arresting innocent people. Your crime is unforgivable!"
Before he could finish his words, the scarred man sneered and swung his knife. Chu Feng dodged sideways, drawing the dagger from his waist and stabbing the scarred man in the ribs. The scarred man reacted quickly, blocking Chu Feng's attack, and the two of them instantly engaged in a fight.
At this time, Pan Yue also rushed out from the secret passage, holding a short sword in his hand, and his body was nimble, attacking the weak points of the man in black. The two men stood back to back, covering each other, and engaged in a fierce battle with the man in black.
Chu Feng, with the predictive ability granted by the golden finger, always managed to dodge the enemy's attacks at the critical moment and find an opportunity to counterattack. He used the theater's environment to lure the men in black into pre-set traps, such as the sudden collapse of scenery and breaking of wooden boards, catching the men in black off guard.
Pan Yue calmly analyzed the battle situation, directed the rescued people to avoid the aftermath of the battle, and used some simple props, such as lights and fire extinguishers, to interfere with the actions of the men in black.
The battle dragged on for a long time, and the men in black gradually lost ground. They hadn't expected Chu Feng and Pan Yue to be so formidable, and even to exploit the theater's surroundings to launch a counterattack. Seeing the situation was dire, the scarred man roared, attempting to break free. Chu Feng wouldn't let him. He darted forward, slashing his dagger across the scarred man's wrist. The scarred man screamed, and the knife in his hand fell to the ground.
Seeing this, the other men in black also fled. Chu Feng and Pan Yue did not pursue them, as they still had to rescue the prisoners.
The rescued people gathered around Chu Feng, their eyes filled with gratitude and hope. An elderly man trembled as he walked up to Chu Feng, shook his hand, and said with a sob, "Thank you, young man, you saved us."
Chu Feng looked at their trusting eyes, and a warm feeling welled up in his heart. He knew that everything he had done was worth it.
"We must leave here as soon as possible." Pan Yue warned, "The evil spirit manipulator may come back at any time."
Chu Feng nodded and led everyone back to the theater along the secret passage. However, the interior of the theater had become even more eerie and terrifying, with a strong smell of evil spirits in the air.
They arrived at the back door of the theater, only to find it closed and blocked by a powerful barrier. Chu Feng tried to break the barrier with his spiritual power, but it remained motionless.
"It seems we are trapped." Pan Yue's face was solemn.
Chu Feng remained silent. He looked up into the depths of the theater, a flicker of determination in his eyes. He knew the evil spirit manipulator was there, and he had to find him and resolve this crisis once and for all.
He took a deep breath and pushed open a half-closed door. There was no one inside, only a blood-stained parchment with some strange symbols drawn on it, which gave off an unsettling aura in the dim light. Chu Feng reached out to take it...
