God Slayer: Make Up for the Past

Chapter 2 New Edition, Evil Spirits in the Shadows

Shadows wriggled deep in the alley, eventually coalescing into a humanoid form. Its body was hunched, its limbs as spindly as withered branches, and its skin a sickly grayish-white, as if a thin layer of paper had been applied to its bones. Two faint green lights flickered in its hollow eye sockets, eerie like will-o'-the-wisp. This was Wang Xieling, a low-level evil spirit that fed on human fear.

The moment it appeared, it fixed its greedy gaze on the collapsed Li Zei. Li Zei's fear emanated like substance, and for the evil spirit, it was undoubtedly the most delicious delicacy.

Wang Xieling let out a sharp scream, as harsh as nails scratching a blackboard, and then pounced on Li Zei.

"Be careful!" Chu Feng shouted, and without hesitation, he stood in front of Li Zei. The exorcist dagger in his hand flickered with a faint light. This was the standard weapon of the Night's Watch against evil spirits. However, when facing a real evil spirit, this faint light seemed so powerless.

The evil spirit's speed was astonishing. Chu Feng felt his eyes flash before a foul smell hit him. He instinctively swung his dagger, but only hit a shadow.

The next moment, a sharp pain shot through his shoulder. Chu Feng groaned and stumbled back a few steps. He looked down and saw three scratches deep enough to see the bone. Black blood gushed out, and a chilling aura flowed through the wounds, invading his body.

"Chu Feng!" Pan Yue exclaimed, attempting to step forward to help, but was blocked by a black mist swirled from the evil spirit's other hand. The mist was filled with a sickening, rancid odor, and even a breath of it made one dizzy. Pan Yue quickly held his breath, but this also cost him the best opportunity to attack.

Lin Yao also arrived at this time. She swung her sword like a dancing silver snake, forcing the evil spirit to temporarily abandon its attack on Chu Feng. However, although this low-level evil spirit was not very powerful, its attack methods were strange and unpredictable. Sometimes it transformed into a cloud of black mist, and sometimes extended long, sharp claws, making it difficult to defend against it.

Although Lin Yao was an official Night Watchman, far more powerful than Chu Feng and Pan Yue, she was still somewhat powerless in the face of this strange attack. She tried several times to pierce the evil spirit's body with her sword, but it was as if she was stabbing into the air, with no support.

Chu Feng clutched the wound on his shoulder, his face pale. He looked at Lin Yao, who was locked in a bitter battle, and Pan Yue, who was blocked by the black fog, and felt a sense of powerlessness. If this continued, they would all die here...

"Damn it..." Chu Feng gritted his teeth, a look of determination flashing in his eyes. He suddenly remembered...

Chu Feng suddenly remembered his cheat code—Time Rewind. This ability had significant limitations, and each use consumed a significant amount of mental energy, leaving him weak and powerless for a period of time. He was unwilling to use it unless absolutely necessary. But now, he had no choice.

He took a deep breath, concentrated his mind, and silently chanted the spell to activate the rewind. A powerful force surged from his body, and everything around him seemed to slow down and then began to move backwards.

The battle scene in the alley began to replay, Lin Yao's sword dance, Pan Yue's dodge, the evil spirit's attack, and the scar on his own shoulder... everything was rewinding.

When time went back to the moment when the evil spirit was about to attack him, Chu Feng suddenly opened his eyes. This time, he clearly saw the trajectory of the evil spirit's attack and its fleeting weakness - a grayish-white spot on the back of its neck.

Time returned to normal, and the evil spirit's claws struck again. This time, Chu Feng didn't dodge, but instead faced the attack head-on. The exorcist dagger in his hand accurately stabbed the spot on the back of the evil spirit's neck.

"Pfft!"

With a soft click, the dagger pierced the evil spirit's body. The evil spirit let out a shrill scream, its body trembling violently, and the black mist dissipated. It clutched the wound on the back of its neck and took a few steps back in fear.

"What's going on?" Lin Yao and Pan Yue were stunned. They didn't expect that Chu Feng could actually hurt the evil spirit.

Chu Feng ignored their surprise and took advantage of the evil spirit's injury to attack again. The dagger in his hand danced like a spirit snake, leaving wounds on the evil spirit's body.

Although the evil spirit was injured, it still had a strong attack power. It waved its claws angrily, trying to fight back. But Chu Feng's attack was faster, and each time he hit its weak spot accurately.

"This kid..." Captain Zhang also rushed to the scene. Seeing this scene, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes. He didn't expect that this new trainee night watchman would be so powerful.

Under Chu Feng's continuous attacks, the evil spirit finally couldn't hold on any longer. It let out an unwilling roar, then turned into a ball of black mist and disappeared into the depths of the alley.

"Hu..." Chu Feng let out a long sigh, and the dagger in his hand fell limply. The aftereffects of using the golden finger began to appear, and he felt weak all over and dizzy.

"Chu Feng, are you okay?" Lin Yao asked with concern.

"I'm fine..." Chu Feng shook his head and tried to stand firmly.

Pan Yue walked up to him, patted him on the shoulder, and said, "You are hiding it well, kid. You actually have such a skill."

Chu Feng forced a smile and said nothing. He knew that his behavior had attracted the attention of Captain Zhang.

Captain Zhang walked up to Chu Feng, looked at him with complicated eyes, and said, "What did you just do?"

Chu Feng was silent for a moment, then raised his head, met Captain Zhang's gaze, and said, "I..."

He was about to open his mouth to explain when he felt the temperature around him plummet, and a chilling atmosphere filled the air once again. He turned sharply and looked deep into the alley. There, a pair of dark green eyes stared at him intently, flashing a creepy light... "Captain, be careful!"

Before Chu Feng could finish his words, a bone-chilling chill swept over him, and the air in the alley seemed to freeze. He turned sharply, looking deeper into the alley. There, a pair of ghostly green eyes flickered like will-o'-the-wisp, staring at him intently, emitting a chilling light. The evil spirit, it had returned, and it seemed even more powerful than before.

"Captain, be careful!" Chu Feng shouted, holding the exorcist dagger in his hand across his body, looking vigilantly into the depths of the alley.

The evil spirit didn't attack immediately. It seemed to be aware of Chu Feng's unusual behavior. It was observing, waiting, searching for the perfect moment to strike. The surroundings changed with its appearance. The already dim alleyway became even more eerie and terrifying, and the air was filled with a strong, nauseating stench of decay. The moss on the walls seemed to come alive, wriggling and spreading like greedy hands, seeking to devour them.

Pan Yue and Lin Yao also sensed the oppressive atmosphere. They gripped their weapons tightly, stood back to back, and glanced around warily. "This evil spirit... seems to have grown stronger," Lin Yao whispered, her voice trembling.

"It's observing us, looking for our weaknesses," Pan Yue analyzed calmly. "We must be careful not to give it any opportunity to exploit."

Chu Feng felt his strength rapidly draining away. The aftereffects of using the "golden finger" (a special ability, perhaps taken literally) were becoming increasingly severe. He felt increasingly dizzy, and double vision began to appear. He knew he had to end this battle quickly, or the consequences would be disastrous.

At this moment, Captain Zhang's anxious voice came from the communicator: "Chu Feng, how are you guys doing? I'm on my way over, but I encountered some trouble on the way, so it may take some time to get there."

"Captain, we have encountered a powerful evil spirit and the situation is not optimistic!" Chu Feng said with difficulty, his tone full of anxiety.

"Hold on, I'll be there soon!" Captain Zhang's voice was full of determination, but Chu Feng could hear the worry hidden in his tone.

The communication was interrupted, and the atmosphere in the alley became even more tense. The evil spirit seemed to have lost its patience. It let out a piercing scream, then transformed into a dark shadow and pounced towards them.

"Be careful!" Pan Yue shouted, brandishing his longsword to meet the evil spirit's attack. Lin Yao followed closely behind, her two swords dancing like butterflies, slicing streaks of silver light through the air.

Chu Feng suppressed his weakness and once again clenched the exorcist dagger in his hand. He knew that he could not fall down. He had to protect his companions and defeat this evil spirit.

The evil spirit was incredibly fast, and even more powerful than before. Pan Yue and Lin Yao's attacks, though effective, couldn't stop it. It moved among them like a ghost, its claws swishing and stirring up gusts of chilling wind.

Chu Feng took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. He carefully observed the evil spirit's movements, searching for its weaknesses. He discovered that although the evil spirit's power had increased, its attack pattern had not changed; it would still expose the weak spot at the back of its neck.

Just as the evil spirit was about to pounce on Lin Yao again, Chu Feng made his move. He rushed out like an arrow, and the exorcist dagger in his hand accurately stabbed the evil spirit's weak spot on the back of its neck.

The dagger pierced the evil spirit's body again, but this time, the evil spirit did not scream. It just trembled slightly and then continued to pounce on Lin Yao.

"Is it useless?" Chu Feng's heart sank, and a feeling of despair surged in his heart.

At this critical moment, Lin Yao suddenly dodged to the side, avoiding the evil spirit's attack, and then the two knives in her hands suddenly stabbed into the evil spirit's chest.

The evil spirit let out a shrill scream, its body trembling violently, and the black mist dissipated. It clutched the wound on its chest, stepped back in fear, and then... it laughed. A creepy, malicious voice echoed through the alley: "You... all must die..."
