God Slayer: Make Up for the Past
Chapter 13 The Return of the Spiritual Child
The flickering light danced like will-o'-the-wisp, illuminating Chu Feng's resolute face. He felt the air around him grow thicker, and breathing became difficult. The barrier surrounding the spirit child flickered, as if it would shatter completely in the next second. A sickening, fishy-sweet smell permeated the distorted air, foreshadowing something ominous.
"Chu Feng, don't come any closer!" Zhao Qian shouted, the long sword in his hand flashing with a cold light. "You are seeking your own death! You are also dragging all of us down with you!"
Chu Feng ignored him, his steps still firm. Pan Yue followed closely behind, his eyes filled with worry, yet also with a hint of determination. Elder Sun stood aside, his brow furrowed, his face terribly gloomy. He knew the seriousness of the situation, but he could not stop Chu Feng's actions.
The other Night Watchmen also gathered around, pointing their weapons at Chu Feng and Pan Yue, their eyes filled with fear and hostility.
"Are you crazy? Do you want to watch all of us die?" A night watchman shouted at the top of his lungs, his voice trembling, obviously dominated by fear.
"Stand back!" Another night watchman raised the long knife in his hand, the blade pointed directly at Chu Feng, "If you take another step forward, don't blame us for being rude!"
Facing the threat from his companions, Chu Feng did not flinch. He looked directly at Zhao Qian and said firmly, "We are saving lives, not killing! If we can't even save a child, how can we talk about protecting the people!"
Pan Yue also stepped forward. He calmly analyzed the situation, "Zhao Qian, think carefully. If the barrier truly collapses and the evil spirit escapes, none of us will be able to escape! Stopping us now would be courting death!"
Zhao Qian's expression changed again and again. He looked around and found that the eyes of some night watchmen began to waver. He knew that he could not hesitate any longer.
"Do it!" He spat out these two words with gritted teeth, and swung the long sword in his hand suddenly. A sharp sword energy went straight towards Chu Feng.
Chu Feng was prepared. He dodged the sword energy and flashed to Zhao Qian. He didn't attack, but instead reached out and grabbed Zhao Qian's wrist, saying in a heavy voice, "Zhao Qian, wake up! We should unite now, not kill each other!"
Zhao Qian struggled, trying to break free from Chu Feng's control, but he found himself unable to move at all. Chu Feng's strength was incredibly strong, like a pair of iron pliers, firmly locking his wrist.
At this moment, the light of the barrier suddenly became more intense, and the surrounding air was distorted to the extreme, as if it would explode at any time.
"Ah!" The spirit boy let out a shrill scream, his body shaking violently, as if he was suffering from great pain.
"Oh no! He's coming out!" Elder Sun exclaimed, his face turning even paler.
Chu Feng took a deep breath. He felt immense pressure, but he didn't give up. He pulled out a handful of dried herbs and a few pieces of paper inscribed with runes from his pocket, held them high above his head, and said to the crowd, "I have a solution!" His voice was exceptionally clear in the noisy cave, and everyone's eyes were focused on the herbs and runes in his hands... "This is..."
The dried herbs in Chu Feng's hands were dark in color and exuded a strange fragrance, distinct from the sweet, fishy smell that permeated the cave. Several rune-inscribed slips, intricate patterns traced in cinnabar, appeared mysterious and ancient under the flickering will-o'-the-wisp fire.
"This is what I found in an ancient book. It records a herb and a spell that can purify evil spirits." Chu Feng's voice was firm and powerful. "I believe this can remove the control of the spirit boy."
He looked around, his eyes sweeping over the faces of every Night's Watchman, trying to persuade them. Some of the Night's Watchmen, who had originally been full of hostility, began to flicker, and their hands holding their weapons relaxed slightly. Chu Feng's words, like a ray of dawn, illuminated the confusion in their hearts.
"Nonsense!" Zhao Qian roared, interrupting Chu Feng's explanation. "You're just an apprentice night watchman. What do you know about ancient books? What do you know about evil spirits? You're playing with our lives!"
He raised his sword again and pointed it at Chu Feng, his eyes filled with anger and suspicion. Some other Night Watchmen followed suit, still skeptical of Chu Feng, fearing that this was a trick.
At this moment, Elder Sun slowly walked out. He stood beside Chu Feng and said in an unquestionable tone: "I believe Chu Feng."
Although his voice was old, it was full of power, like a magic needle that stabilized the emotions of everyone present.
"Elder Sun..." Zhao Qian looked at Elder Sun in disbelief. He couldn't understand why Elder Sun, who had always been old-fashioned and stubborn, would choose to trust an apprentice night watchman.
"I am willing to bear all the consequences." Elder Sun's eyes were firm. He looked at Chu Feng with a hint of encouragement in his tone, "Chu Feng, go do what you want to do."
Elder Sun's support gave Chu Feng great courage. He took a deep breath, handed the herbs and rune paper in his hand to Pan Yue, and said, "Pan Yue, help me protect the law."
Pan Yue solemnly took the herbs and runes. He knew that everything that happened next would determine their life or death.
Chu Feng turned and walked towards the spirit child, each step taken with remarkable calmness, as if nothing could stop him. He ignored the doubts and threats of the surrounding night watchmen, his eyes focused only on the innocent child possessed by the evil spirit.
"You are crazy! All of you are crazy!" Zhao Qian shouted hysterically. He waved his sword and wanted to rush forward to stop Chu Feng, but was stopped by other night watchmen.
"Zhao Qian, calm down!" a night watchman advised, "Elder Sun has spoken, let's just wait and see."
Zhao Qian struggled, his eyes filled with resentment and anger. He couldn't understand why these people would trust Chu Feng so easily. Were they really not afraid of death?
Chu Feng had already arrived in front of the spirit boy. He slowly extended his hand, and a faint golden light emanated from his palm. This light, like a holy radiance, dispelled the darkness and coldness around him.
"No..." The spirit boy let out a weak moan, his eyes filled with fear and helplessness.
Chu Feng didn't stop, and gently placed his hand on Ling Tong's forehead. "Don't be afraid..." he said softly, his voice gentle but firm.
At this moment, Zhao Qian suddenly broke free from his restraints. He roared angrily, and the long sword in his hand, with a sharp sword energy, went straight to Chu Feng's back... "Stop!"
Elder Sun's roar echoed through the cave, but Zhao Qian's sword was already full force, and he had no time to retract it. At the critical moment, Pan Yue's figure flashed by like lightning, and the talisman in his hand transformed into a golden light, blocking Chu Feng behind him. The sword tip collided with the golden light, making a sharp sound and stirring a gust of wind, which made the fire in the cave flicker.
"Are you crazy? Zhao Qian!" Pan Yue's eyes widened and he shouted sternly.
A hint of madness flashed in Zhao Qian's eyes, "I will kill anyone who dares to stop me!" He swung his sword again, with sharp moves, directly attacking Pan Yue's vital points.
Seeing this, the other Night Watchmen drew their weapons and joined the fray. Some sided with Zhao Qian, strongly opposing the actions of Chu Feng and the others. Others chose to trust Elder Sun and Chu Feng, confronting Zhao Qian and the others. The cave was suddenly filled with the flashing of swords and the deafening cries of killing.
Chu Feng didn't turn around. His eyes were fixed on the spirit child in front of him, possessed by the evil spirit. He knew the most important thing now was to free the spirit child from the evil spirit's control. Everything else could come later. He kept moving, weaving in and out of the chaotic battle like a swimming fish, deftly dodging every attack.
The most intense battle took place between Pan Yue and Zhao Qian. Though young, Pan Yue's strength was formidable, his talismanic paper unpredictable, allowing him to employ both offensive and defensive tactics. Zhao Qian, drawing on years of experience and ruthless swordsmanship, pressed forward. The two exchanged blows, leaving the outcome uncertain.
The battle between the other Night's Watch was chaotic. None of them fought to the death, but simply held each other back, no one daring to launch a rash attack. After all, they were all Night's Watch, and they had a deep sense of comradeship.
Chu Feng, bearing immense pressure, approached the spirit child step by step. The sounds of battle and killing around him seemed to have disappeared, and the only thing left in his world was the trembling child.
As Chu Feng got closer and closer to the spirit boy, a powerful evil force emerged from the spirit boy, like an invisible wave, sweeping in all directions. This force was stronger and colder than before, making people shudder.
The Night's Watchmen who were still fighting were overwhelmed by this power and involuntarily stopped what they were doing. They looked at the spirit boy in horror, their eyes filled with fear.
Chu Feng also felt this powerful pressure, but he did not stop. He took a deep breath and continued to move forward. Each step was extremely difficult, as if he was carrying a heavy burden.
When he finally arrived in front of the spiritual boy and reached out to touch the spiritual boy's barrier, the evil power erupted again, forming a black barrier around the spiritual boy, like an insurmountable chasm, separating Chu Feng and the spiritual boy.
The black barrier rolled continuously, emitting a terrifying roar. Chu Feng felt a strong resistance, preventing him from approaching the spirit boy. He gritted his teeth and mobilized all his strength in an attempt to break through the barrier.
"Chu Feng..." Pan Yue's voice came from a distance, with a hint of worry.
Chu Feng didn't look back. He simply stretched out his hand and slowly placed it against the black barrier. "I will definitely save you..." he whispered softly, his tone firm and persistent...
