God Slayer: Make Up for the Past

Chapter 102: The truth is revealed and a new danger comes

"Actually..." Murong Xue was about to reveal the truth when the surrounding fog suddenly swirled, like boiling ink, too thick to dissolve. A strong sense of oppression surged from all directions, as if an invisible giant hand had grabbed their throats, suffocating them.

"What's going on?" Night Watch Supervisor Li exclaimed with a trembling voice. He instinctively drew his weapon, but found that he could not see anything in the fog.

Murong Xue tightly grasped Chu Feng's arm, her fingertips were cold, her face was as pale as paper, and her lips trembled slightly: "Something... is stopping me from speaking..."

Chu Feng felt a chilling aura creeping through the mist. He gripped his weapon tightly and looked around warily. "Don't be afraid," he whispered to Murong Xue, his tone reassuring, "We'll be fine."

At this moment, Pan Yue's voice came from the depths of the fog, with a hint of anxiety: "Chu Feng! The communicator is not working!"

To make matters worse, Chu Feng's communicator suddenly made a piercing noise, and then fell completely silent. They had lost contact with the outside world and were trapped in this strange fog.

Almost at the same time, Chu Feng felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. He took it out and saw a message from the family of Zhou's missing person: "If our loved ones are not found before dawn tomorrow, we will rush into the forest and search for them ourselves! The consequences will be at our own risk!"

Chu Feng's heart sank. He knew the family members were on the verge of collapse. They would do anything to find the missing person. This invisible pressure was like a huge rock, weighing him down, making him breathless. He had to solve this mystery and find the missing person as soon as possible, otherwise the consequences would be unimaginable.

"Chu Feng..." Murong Xue's voice trembled slightly. She seemed to want to say something, but was interrupted by a sudden cough. She clutched her chest, her face paler than ever, and beads of sweat rolled down her forehead.

"Are you okay?" Chu Feng asked with concern.

Murong Xue shook her head, took a deep breath, and tried to calm her breathing. She looked at Chu Feng, a glint of determination flashing in her eyes: "I must say it..."

The fog rolled even more violently, like a roaring beast, seeking to devour them. An invisible force field oppressed Murong Xue, making it nearly impossible for her to speak. But she gritted her teeth, mustered all her strength, and spoke word by word, "I... I am..."

Her voice suddenly stopped, as if strangled by an invisible hand. Her eyes rolled back and she fell straight down...

Chu Feng, quick-witted, caught Murong Xue as she fell. He gently placed her on the ground and anxiously checked her breathing. Fortunately, she was only unconscious. The surrounding fog continued to swirl, the oppressive feeling undiminished. Night Watch Overseer Li's face was ashen, and his grip on his weapon tightened. Pan Yue also rushed back from the fog, his expression solemn.

"What's going on? What happened to her?" Pan Yue asked.

Chu Feng shook his head, indicating that he didn't know either. At this moment, Murong Xue's eyelids trembled slightly, and she slowly opened her eyes with a hint of confusion in her eyes.

"I... I'm fine..." she said weakly, "I have to tell you... I... I was sent to investigate a dark force in the forest..."

She spoke haltingly about her identity and purpose. It turned out that Murong Xue was no ordinary resident, but an investigator with special abilities, specializing in investigating various supernatural events. She had been secretly searching for clues, and her previous strange behavior was to avoid revealing her identity and alerting the suspects.

"Those missing people... were all swallowed up by this dark power..." Murong Xue's voice became increasingly low. "I've been searching for its source, but... but it's hidden too deep..."

Chu Feng's mind flashed like lightning after hearing Murong Xue's story. He connected all the clues he had previously connected—the common characteristics of the missing persons, the strange energy fluctuations in the forest, Murong Xue's strange behavior... everything pointed to the same truth!

"I know!" Chu Feng stood up suddenly, his eyes flashing, "I know where the missing people are! I know the source of this dark power!"

He told Pan Yue and Li the Night Watchman about his inferences and analysis in detail. At first, Li the Night Watchman was skeptical, but as Chu Feng explained, his eyes gradually became shocked, and finally, he looked at Chu Feng with a look full of appreciation and admiration.

"You... you actually solved this mystery..." Night Watch Supervisor Li said with a hint of disbelief, "I... misunderstood you before..."

Chu Feng didn't care about Li's apology, he was more concerned about how to save the missing people. He immediately formulated an action plan and received the full support of Pan Yue and Li's supervisor.

Just when everyone thought the situation was over and rescue operations could begin, the ground suddenly shook violently. The surrounding trees swayed as if an earthquake had occurred. Then, a huge dark vortex appeared in the center of the forest, like the mouth of an abyss, emitting a chilling and cold aura.

"What...what is this?!" Night Watch Supervisor Li shouted in horror.

Murong Xue's expression also became extremely solemn: "It seems... he was angered by us revealing the truth..."

Chu Feng gripped his weapon tightly, his eyes gleaming with determination. He knew the real battle had just begun... "Pan Yue, prepare for battle!"

The dark vortex was like a gaping maw, spewing out thick darkness. All sorts of bizarre creatures emerged from it, emitting sharp, piercing roars. Their bodies were twisted and their limbs were bizarre. Some resembled giant spiders, some like floating ghosts, and some like twisted tree roots, with a sickening stench.

"Be careful! These things' attacks are corrosive!" Chu Feng warned loudly, waving his sword. The sword flashed like snow, splitting a flying black bat in half. The bat let out a shrill scream and turned into a cloud of black smoke and dissipated.

Pan Yue calmly analyzed the enemy's weaknesses. He found that these dark creatures were slow to move, but had a wide attack range and seemed to be afraid of light. The staff in his hand flashed with light, and icy arrows shot out, accurately hitting several shadow creatures that tried to approach Murong Xue.

Murong Xue displayed astonishing combat prowess. Her nimble form and the dagger in her hand danced like a serpent, each strike clean and sharp, slaying the approaching dark creatures one by one. She and Chu Feng worked in perfect harmony, shielding each other and advancing and retreating in an orderly fashion, carving a bloody path through the siege of the dark creatures.

As the battle continued, Chu Feng noticed sunlight filtering through the gaps in the treetops. The dark creatures caught in the sunlight roared in pain, their bodies rapidly dissolving. Suddenly, an idea struck him.

"Pan Yue, cover me!" Chu Feng shouted, pointing the sword in his hand to the sky.

Pan Yue immediately understood what Chu Feng meant. He waved his staff and released a huge ice wall to block the attack of the dark creatures.

Chu Feng took a deep breath, mobilizing all his strength. A powerful energy surged from his body, forming a dazzling ball of light above his head. The ball of light grew larger and brighter, and finally burst into a dazzling light, illuminating the entire forest like a small sun.

The strong light shone on the dark creatures, and they let out shrill screams. Their bodies quickly melted and dissipated into black smoke.

Murong Xue looked at Chu Feng, who was bathed in light, with a look of admiration and trust in her eyes. She had never seen such a powerful force, nor had she ever felt so safe.

The light gradually dissipated, and the forest returned to peace, leaving only black ashes on the ground.

"We won..." Pan Yue breathed a sigh of relief and wiped the sweat from his forehead.

Chu Feng nodded, but he didn't relax. He knew this was only a temporary victory; the real crisis hadn't been resolved. What was hidden behind this dark vortex? He looked at Murong Xue, and their eyes met, each seeing the same worry in the other's.

Suddenly, the ground shook again, even more violently than before. The dark vortex began to shrink, eventually disappearing, leaving behind only a bottomless cave.

"It...it escaped?" Night Watch Overseer Li shouted in horror.

Chu Feng shook his head. He knew that it had not escaped but hidden itself.

He walked to the edge of the cave and looked down. The darkness was filled with a smell of decay and the surroundings were terrifyingly silent, as if countless pairs of eyes were watching him in secret.

"We have to go down and take a look..." Chu Feng said firmly. He turned to look at Murong Xue, "You..."

"I'll go with you." Murong Xue answered without hesitation.

Chu Feng stepped into the ancient castle...
