Legend of Mir 2: Seeking the Truth in Marfa
Chapter 12: Xiangshi Ancient Tomb
Inside the hotel, Brooke was lying on the bed, not asleep yet.
Since becoming a monk, he has noticeably more energy. Even if he feels tired, he can usually recover after a short rest. However, since he just became a monk, he still prefers to lie down and retains the sleeping habits of ordinary people.
Brook looked at the skeleton baby Xiaobai standing beside the bed and couldn't help but sit up again.
"Xiaobai, listen carefully. I am your master, I am your friend, my name is Brook."
"Xiaobai, your name is Xiaobai"
"Master, friend, Brook, I..."
"Look, this is the primary wound medicine, wound medicine."
Brook talked to Xiaobai like a fool, teaching it to recognize people and objects.
Xiaobai had a blank look in his eyes and showed no reaction.
Brooke was not discouraged, because this was how he had taught Xiaohua before. Brooke talked to Xiaobai over and over again until late at night, until he was really tired and fell asleep.
I woke up naturally at 4 a.m. the next day.
Brook went to the shop first, selling his equipment and supplies, including medicine, torches, and amulets. He also had over 20 books on him, which he needed to store in the warehouse. He would sell them to merchants later when he arrived in Mengzhong.
Brooke came to the warehouse, took out the skill books, and explained his intention to store them in his personal warehouse. Unexpectedly, the warehouse owner saw Brooke taking out so many books, and seemed to have thought of something. He asked, "Respected Brother Marfa, may I ask, where did you get these skill books?"
Brook thought for a moment and replied, "It's in a secret passage. There are many zombies there. These books were obtained there."
"Are you talking about the secret passage in Shabak?"
"Yes," Brooke replied. The warehouse owner also knew about the secret passage. It seemed like it wasn't a secret to the locals of Shabak.
"Have the monsters in the secret passage been eliminated? Is the Xiangshi Ancient Tomb accessible now?" the warehouse owner continued to ask.
"Oh, it hasn't been completely cleared. There are a lot of monsters there. As for the Xiangshi Ancient Tomb you mentioned, I haven't been there yet, so I'm afraid it's not passable." Brook recalled the map. One end of the Shabak secret passage was connected to the Xiangshi Ancient Tomb.
"To be honest, the Xiangshi Ancient Tomb was originally a secret passage leading to Mengzhongtu City, and also a shortcut. It is very important to us merchants in Shabak. Respected Monk Mafa, are you willing to help eliminate the monsters in the Xiangshi Ancient Tomb?" The warehouse owner issued a task.
Each map is a separate space, and small-scale monster spawns are capped at certain numbers: once the monsters reach a certain limit, they cease to spawn. Therefore, while the original Xiangshi Ancient Tomb had monsters, it was still passable if one carefully avoided them. However, two days ago, a massive monster wave arrived, completely blocking the entire passageway, making it impassable and requiring the use of monks to clear it.
"I need to think about it." Brooke didn't immediately accept the task because he wasn't sure about the specifics of the Xiangshi Tomb. Situ Haoyun's notes only mentioned the secret passage but didn't go into detail about the Xiangshi Tomb.
"If you can clear out all the monsters in the Xiangshi Ancient Tomb within three days, I will give you a generous reward. Respected Monk Mafa, I ask for your help." The warehouse owner said sincerely.
"Okay, I'll accept this mission." Brooke thought about it and decided to accept this mission to help the merchants. Even if he couldn't complete it, there would be no punishment.
Brook still had to go to the secret passage to level up anyway, so it wouldn't hurt to check out the Xiangshi Tomb while he was there.
Brook returned to the secret passage. After yesterday's cleanup, some zombies had reappeared around the stairs, but they were no longer as dense as yesterday. Brook took the skeleton baby Xiaobai with him and started leveling.
There are enough monsters here, and they don't pose much threat to him. There are shops right outside the door, so it's a good place to level up.
Brook was currently level 19, and with one more level, he could learn Invisibility. He decided to at least learn Invisibility, giving himself an extra life-saving skill, before exploring the Xiangshi Tomb.
Brook let Little White lead the charge while he provided support from the side. Skeleton Baby's attack power was 10-25, making it incredibly effective at chopping zombies with his axe. Its defense, at 10-10, was also quite good. Zombies' attacks on Little White often only dealt single-digit damage, sometimes failing to penetrate his defense. With Brook occasionally healing Little White, he remained remarkably strong.
Even more surprising is that Xiaobai can actually level up! After killing dozens of zombies, Xiaobai reached level 2. The four characters in Xiaobai's name, "Mutated Skeleton," which were originally white, have now turned light blue. His health has increased to 120 points, his attack has increased to 10-28, and his movement and attack speed have also increased.
But currently it can only be upgraded to level 2. Killing more zombies will not increase the level any more.
As Xiaobai grew stronger, Brook was no longer satisfied with killing zombies one by one. Instead, he had Xiaobai rush forward and slash at five or six zombies. His leveling efficiency was more than doubled compared to yesterday.
Soon, Brook reached level 20. Looking at the time, only two hours had passed.
He took out the "Invisibility Technique" and immediately learned it. When using it, his mental energy enveloped his entire body, making it appear and disappear, as if in a translucent state. This lasted for over 40 seconds before it wore off. If he moved while invisible, the invisibility technique would also be lost. Brook was a little disappointed. This wasn't true invisibility, not completely invisible. Could it really work?
Brook randomly attacked a zombie, then turned invisible. Sure enough, the zombie stopped attacking, seemingly losing Brook's presence and its target. It instead crawled towards the nearby baby skeleton. Well, this invisibility technique was effective against monsters, at least.
Brook continued to advance deeper into the secret passage, clearing out numerous dense swarms of zombies. After several detours and a long walk, he reached a dead end. There was no road ahead, but instead a staircase leading down. According to the map, this was the entrance to the Xiangshi Ancient Tomb.
Brook ordered the skeleton baby, Xiaobai, to walk ahead, wanting it to enter the passage first, and he would follow closely behind. If anything went wrong, he would immediately retreat.
But Xiaobai kept circling around the cave entrance and couldn't get in. What happened?
"Xiaobai, go in. Don't be afraid. You can always be summoned again if you die. What are you afraid of?" Brook encouraged Xiaobai, but Xiaobai tried very hard to squeeze in the door. He tried many times but still failed.
Brook was helpless and it seemed that he had to leave first.
He thought about it again. When he first entered a new map, such as the Shabak Secret Tunnel, even though there were zombies all around, they would hesitate for a second before attacking. Perhaps the monsters didn't expect a person to suddenly appear, so they hesitated.
Brook thought for a moment and decided to take out the dungeon teleportation scroll from his backpack, just in case. If anything went wrong, he was ready to crush it at any time. Even if he flew back to Beech, it would be better than death.
Brook took a deep breath and went in!
The scene shifted, revealing them on a flight of stairs, surrounded by zombies. As expected, the monsters hesitated, but before they could react, Brook had already activated his invisibility skill. Meanwhile, the skeleton baby, Xiaobai, who was still on the upper floor, suddenly teleported to the next step.
Sure enough, there was a 1 second hesitation!
But why did the skeleton baby teleport here on its own? I didn't give it any instructions, and the way it appeared was really amazing, teleporting directly?
If you can’t figure it out, think about it later.
Now that he was invisible, he was safe. Brook began to observe his surroundings. It was densely packed with zombies. The skeleton baby, Xiaobai, was standing in front of him, already engaged in a battle with the zombies. Unfortunately, an electric zombie was also near the steps, firing lasers at Xiaobai.
They had to kill the electric zombie first. Brook quickly healed Xiaobai and told him to ignore the other zombies and focus on the electric zombie. He also went all out to fight the zombie.
Although the electric zombie had a very high attack, its defense was 0, and Xiaobai chopped off more than 20 HP with one axe. The electric zombie's laser could take away more than 30 HP from Xiaobai each time. In addition, there were 3 zombies attacking Xiaobai, and Brook's healing skills could not add up.
After four seconds, the skeleton baby, Xiaobai, died with a thud, reduced to a pile of bones. Brook was invisible, and the zombies, with no target to attack, paused for a moment. The electric zombie still had half its health left.
Brook summoned the Skeleton Baby, Little White No. 2, again, but before it could fully stand up, the Electro Zombie fired a laser, killing Little White No. 2 again. The newly summoned Skeleton Baby wasn't at full health, only half.
The electric zombie was a nuisance. With the Skeleton Baby gone, Brook didn't dare attack because he had been close to the electric zombie for a long time. If the electric zombie turned around a little, he could hit him with his laser.
Brook stepped back, returning to the secret passage on the previous floor. He summoned the Skeleton Baby, Little White No. 0, and replenished Little White No. 60's health. Although it was only level , with only health points, the ability to summon it infinitely was its greatest advantage.
After Xiaobai No. 2's health was full, Brook walked into the next level again and commanded Xiaobai No. 2 to attack the electric zombie. This time it only lasted for seconds. Xiaobai No. was broken again, but he also slashed the electric zombie twice.
Return to the previous level and continue to summon Xiaobai No. 3. Repeat this times and finally kill the electric zombie.
Without the threat of electric zombies, Xiaobai No. 6 bravely stood in the front, attacking like crazy and bullying the small zombies around him.
No, it's not Xiaobai No. 6. Xiaobai No. 6 is still called Xiaobai.
It seems this floor is still full of zombies, but the number of electric zombies is significantly greater than in the secret passage above. No problem, they'll all count as experience points.
Brook took a few slow steps forward. The zombies ahead were too dense, mixed with many electric zombies, so it was safer to clear them one by one. He had Xiaobai stop in front of him and attack with the fire talisman. Once the zombies were in front of him, he would have Xiaobai attack again. Although the attack was slow, it was safer.
Time passed slowly, and Brook was still killing zombies. He had been clearing for a long time. This level was open, not as narrow as the connecting passage. Instead, it was a complete rectangular open space with a solid rock wall standing in the middle.
Suddenly, the sound of metal clashing and grinding echoed from the darkness ahead. Brook slowed his pace and observed carefully. Another metallic sound, and out of the darkness emerged a massive zombie, his upper body bare and bronzed, bound with chains. The Zombie King!
The notes contain an illustration of the Zombie King. It is the leader of the zombies, has 500 HP, and an attack of 18-36.
Brook unleashed his poison spell, then sent his level 2 Skeleton Baby, Xiaobai, charging forward while he attacked with Soul Fire. The Lich King, though not very intelligent or fast, relied on melee attacks. While seemingly powerful, it offered no threat to Brook. He tried to attack Brook, but was entangled by Xiaobai. After striking Xiaobai a few times, he was drawn back by Brook's Fire Talisman and moved toward Brook, who took the opportunity to heal Xiaobai. After a while of this back-and-forth, the Lich King's health was depleted, and he collapsed heavily, exploding into a shower of objects.
Brook went up to pick up some Sun Water, some common equipment, and a level 26 Warrior skill book, "Half Moon Scimitar." He then unexpectedly discovered a level 20 Taoist weapon with a 1-5 Taoist magic power, giving it a full 3 more points of magic than a regular magic power! Brook's level was just right, so he immediately put on this top-quality magic power.
I didn't expect the Lich King to be so easy to defeat and so generous with his drops. I guess I'll need to get closer to him more often. I also don't know when this Lich King will spawn again.
