Hidden truth, intricate love
Chapter 252: Mystery Palace of the Heart
"Welcome to the 'Labyrinth of the Heart'!" The clerk, dressed in a medieval servant's uniform, handed over two parchment scrolls. "This is your book of memory. Please be sure to carry it with you."
Lin Yue curiously flipped through the yellowed pages, only to find them completely blank. Li Hao was studying the glowing constellation map on the wall when the lights in the hall suddenly went out and the bronze doors slammed shut behind them.
"My heart's beating so fast." Lin Yue grabbed her husband's sleeve in the dark, her fingertips touching the warm wristwatch. Li Hao took her hand, and the vibrations of the watch's second hand traveled through their clasped palms, like some kind of encrypted Morse code.
Blue spotlights suddenly lit up, illuminating the narrow glass passageway before them. Lin Yue gasped—the passage was barely wide enough for two people to pass sideways, its walls covered in colorful sensor points. "It seems physical contact is required to trigger the mechanism," Li Hao said, turning to face her, his breath caressing the strands of hair across her forehead.
As Lin Yue's back rested against the cool glass, Li Hao's palm resting against her ear, a light waltz suddenly filled the hallway. As they stared at each other in surprise, the surrounding glass reflected countless images of people embracing. Lin Yue suddenly noticed the small mole behind her husband's ear, appearing and disappearing in the shifting lights, like starlight filtering through the curtains on the night of their first kiss.
"Don't be distracted." Li Hao's voice was tinged with laughter, his fingertips tracing across her stiff back. "The temperature of the third pane of glass is rising." Sure enough, the moment their chests touched, a bronze key popped out from the secret compartment. Lin blushed and grabbed the key, but heard a soft click behind her—Li Hao's shirt button had caught on her pearl earring.
As they walked through the aisle, Li Hao suddenly stopped. Twelve crystal prisms hovered in front of him, each reflecting their figures from a different angle. "Remember that multi-camera livestream at the wedding?" He reached out to touch the mirrors, his fingertips creating ripples. "You said...ah!"
The prisms suddenly began spinning at high speed, fragmenting their figures into fragmented images. In one fragment, Lin Yue saw herself standing on tiptoe to fix her husband's bow tie; in another, she saw Li Hao's back as he washed dishes alone during their argument last week. When all the prisms stopped spinning, a glowing household chores chart emerged from the ground—the very one they had just revised the previous night.
"Looks like I need to activate my memories in the correct order." Li Hao squatted down, his sleeve brushing against Lin Yue's calf. When his finger pressed on the "Take Out Trash Wednesday" box, the corresponding prism immediately projected an image from the previous Wednesday: Lin Yue, returning home late from work, found the garbage bag tied and placed at the door, with a smiley moon drawn on the sticky note.
As they solved all the memory puzzles, the real wedding rings fell from the sky—the spare rings they had hidden in the cake. The moment Lin Yue caught the rings, golden powder fell from the sky, condensing into tiny starlight on the tips of their hair.
The final challenge room took their breath away: a seven-meter-high corridor connected by swaying wooden stakes. Just as Li Hao was about to tie his safety rope, the announcement blared: "Please select one person to pass blindfolded." Lin Yue stared at the abyssal glass floor and recalled the horror of being trapped in a mountain cable car on their honeymoon.
"I'll take you." Li Hao untied his tie. "You said even a typhoon isn't scary when I'm around." As darkness enveloped her vision, Lin Yue could clearly feel her husband's body temperature. His guiding gestures had a reassuring rhythm, like the night light he left on for her every late night.
As Lin Yue stepped onto the finishing platform, her blindfold was soaked with sweat. She opened her eyes and saw the electronic screen behind Li Hao explode with stars, forming their initials. In the locker room mirror, she noticed a fluorescent stamp had been applied to the back of her neck at some point: interwoven ivy and Orion's belt. That night, when he proposed, Li Hao had pointed to the starry sky and said, "Those are my love coordinates."
