Saint Seiya Evil Skull

Chapter 36 West African Crisis

A few months passed like this, and the strength of Alberich and the other God Warriors continued to grow steadily.

Meanwhile, south of Europe, in West Africa, at the border between Nigeria and Benin, a tragedy was unfolding. A gigantic maggot, more than a man's height, was crawling over the bloodied bodies of black people, devouring them. The bright red blood and the garbled organs were clearly visible. Surrounding the maggot, countless giant flies, cockroaches, and mosquitoes gazed greedily at the rotting corpses, ready to pounce for a share.

The appearance of a few large maggots in a densely rainforested West African region wasn't surprising; they were simply considered mutants. Even though West African countries lacked strong military forces, they now had access to firearms, making killing a few insects a simple task. The leaders of Nigeria and Benin didn't take it seriously, and even their local officials didn't take it seriously. But unexpectedly, the giant maggots continued to multiply. By the time they tried to exterminate them, it was too late.

With the cooperation of the governments of Nigeria and Benin, the two countries' armies decided to join forces to eliminate the terrifying giant insects. They dispatched elite troops equipped with the most advanced weaponry, including a large number of guns, flamethrowers, and bazookas. In addition, they deployed heavy equipment such as armored vehicles and tanks to ensure a complete defeat of these giant pests.

The commanders of both nations were confident that this was just a simple armed patrol, and that they could easily deal with the threat posed by these giant insects. However, they had not anticipated that the insects were hiding underground, waiting for the right moment to launch a surprise attack. When the exterminators arrived, the giant insects quickly emerged from the ground and launched a breathtaking attack.

These giant insects displayed formidable combat and defensive capabilities, demonstrating a degree of resistance to conventional firearms and ammunition, making it difficult for the soldiers to effectively inflict damage. Faced with such a formidable foe, the army fell into panic, and the soldiers fled in all directions, bitterly regretting their parents' failure to give them more legs. The giant insects seized the opportunity to launch an even more fierce attack, easily wiping out many of the soldiers.

In this fierce battle, both armies suffered heavy losses. Despite their superior equipment, they were powerless against the boundless swarm of insects. Ultimately, the First Insect Extermination Campaign ended in a disastrous defeat, with most of the armies annihilated, and only a few lucky ones barely escaping. This battle made people realize that defeating these terrifying giant insects requires greater preparation and strategy.

The Nigerian president, realizing the gravity of the situation, decisively launched an indiscriminate missile attack on the area, leaving it in ruins. However, shortly after the bombing, the giant insects emerged from the ground again and continued to attack surrounding villages, their range increasing. The bombing was effectively ineffective.

To this end, Nigeria secretly deployed biological weapons in the hope of annihilating the giant insects. However, unexpectedly, after the use of these weapons, the giant insects mutated, becoming even more ferocious and powerful than before. Their skin could even withstand rocket fire, and their forelimbs were so sharp they could easily rip through a tank's armor. Their agility was unbelievable. Even a reorganized motorized infantry division was ripped to shreds before they could even approach, their entire force annihilated. Truly ferocious insects!

Seeing the situation spiraling out of control, the Nigerian president immediately sent a distress signal to the African Union and the United Nations, hoping they could help the West Africans resolve the situation. The United Nations, led by the United States, did not ignore Nigeria's request, but instead actively dispatched peacekeeping forces. Western nations, led by the United States, even dispatched a fleet of fighter jets, led by F-15 fighter jets, to provide firepower coverage of the area. However, this was to no avail. The giant insects continued to spread, and even some low-flying F-15 fighter jets were attacked by the giant insects, resulting in aircraft destruction and casualties.

After this incident, American experts convened for urgent research and concluded that insects are generally afraid of fire, and that using incendiary and high-explosive bombs to clean up the scene should be enough to inflict significant damage on the giant insects. However, the results were disappointing. After several rounds, the number of giant insects remained relatively unchanged, while a significant number of other plants and animals were destroyed. Clearly, the giant insects had developed a resistance to fire, and the incendiary and high-explosive bombs launched by Western countries, led by the United States, had little effect on them. Furthermore, due to a lack of food, the giant insects were rapidly infiltrating the surrounding area...

This is probably an inhuman force, right? We have tried all kinds of methods. If this continues, Nigeria will have a government in exile. The power struggles of the past have disappeared, and the military's demands for personnel, wages, and equipment have also disappeared.

"Speak up, what are you going to do?" the Nigerian president shouted.

"I think this is mainly because the military is too incompetent. In the past, the military has asked the government for money and salaries a lot. Now when something really happens, it is useless. The military should bear the main responsibility for this matter." said the Minister of the Interior.

The Interior Minister's words were echoed by other cabinet members.

Seeing no escape, the Nigerian military's representative, the Minister of Defense, said, "This is a natural disaster, not a man-made one. Our soldiers have tried their best, but we are outnumbered. Furthermore, not only the Nigerian military, but even the US-led rescue force has been ineffective." At this point, the Minister of Defense felt his back straighten again. Yes, even the world's most powerful country can't handle it, let alone a small African country like ours. Just as the Minister of Defense was about to continue, he was interrupted by the President.

"Now is not the time to assign blame, but to discuss what to do next!" The meeting room suddenly fell silent, and everyone remained silent.

Just as the Nigerian leadership was gloomy, a presidential aide suggested to the Nigerian president, "Since conventional means are no longer able to kill the giant insects, why not ask the divine warriors of the Nordic Asgard for help?"

"God Warrior?"

"That's right. The God Warriors are the combatants of the Nordic Asgard. These people are not ordinary people. Each of them has their own unique superpowers, and these superpowers are not something that ordinary people can have! In the past, I heard that in Lulea, Sweden, the Asgard God Warriors set up a special task acceptance point. If anyone outside encounters trouble or has any needs, they can go there to post tasks and rewards. If the Asgard people think it's suitable, they will take on the task and send powerful God Warriors to solve it. And I heard that after the God Warriors, Asgard has even stronger God Warriors..."

"Hmm...are you sure the God Warriors can help us solve this problem? I always feel like the Sanctuary is more powerful. Why don't you consider going there?"

"We actually want to go to the Sanctuary, but the people there generally don't interact with the outside world. They do everything based on their mood, and there's no way to contact them. Also, I heard that the Sanctuary just got a new pope. Who knows if he's taken care of the Sanctuary's affairs? So putting our hopes on the Sanctuary doesn't seem very reliable."

"Well, then, in that case, as the President of Nigeria, I now authorize you to immediately travel to Luleå, Sweden, and issue an insect extermination mission to the Divine Warriors. Over the years, our country has made a considerable amount of money from selling oil. Therefore, Nigeria is willing to pay one billion US dollars to the Divine Warriors of Asgard to help us complete this mission. If that is not enough, I authorize you to provide Asgard with an additional amount of up to ten billion US dollars."

"Ah! Mr. President, isn't this too high?"

"High! Have you ever calculated the cost of all the troops we lost, the weapons and equipment, the missiles we launched, the civilians we sacrificed, and the land we lost? And that's not even mentioning the costs of our friendly UN peacekeeping forces. Not to mention, those damn bugs are evolving at an ever-increasing rate. Our country has made a lot of money from selling oil over the years, so any problem that can be solved with money is no problem. If we don't launch a strong counterattack, I'm afraid everyone here will become the giant bugs' lunch sooner or later. Don't let that happen, with money to earn but no life to spend it."

"Okay, Mr. President, I will go to Sweden immediately."

"Well, time waits for no one. You can take my private plane."

“Okay, Mr. President.” After that, he went to Sweden with Nigeria’s expectations.
