My lady, I'm going to rebel.
Chapter 170: Capturing the Thief in the Dark
Mu Zheng looked at the man who came. He had a rough appearance and heroic features.
The man called benefactor waved his hand, his eyes showing some gentleness, and said: "Han Zi, it's been a long time since we last met. You haven't changed much."
Han Zi hurried forward and said respectfully, "I will never forget the kindness you gave me that day. I wonder why you are here today?"
"I just happened to pass by. I heard that this inn has been crowded recently and something seemed amiss, so I came to take a look." As he spoke, the man looked at everyone, and Han Zi immediately introduced him. His name was Zhong Hua.
Everyone salutes.
Zhong Hua casually found an empty seat and sat down, but his eyes were looking at the other two people in the room.
Seeing Zhong Hua's extraordinary demeanor, Mu Zheng clasped his fists and saluted, saying, "My name is Mu Zheng, and this is Li Lian. I wonder why Brother Zhong Hua is also in this woodshed."
Zhong Hua frowned slightly and sighed softly, "Wang Mang's rule is chaotic, the people are suffering, and the world is in chaos. Various forces are surging undercurrents, and it is the common people who suffer. As for me, I was unlucky and offended someone. What happened to you?"
Mu Zheng's face was bitter as he said, "I've been falsely accused of poisoning, and now I can't defend myself. The victim is quite prestigious in the city. If I don't find out the truth, I'm afraid my life will be in danger, and it will also bring trouble to everyone else."
Zhong Hua's expression grew serious upon hearing this. He tapped the table lightly with his hands and after a moment's thought, he said, "What a coincidence! Someone in the suburbs has also been inexplicably poisoned, and the symptoms are quite bizarre. I think this is suspicious, so I came to this inn to see if there might be any clues."
Mu Zheng's heart trembled, "Who is it?"
Zhong Hua thought for a moment and said, "There are three rebel armies in Henan Province, two of which are planning to form an alliance, and the one who died is the bride."
He suspected that another rebel army had poisoned the bride in order to prevent the marriage.
He would also add, "I also happened to hear that a poisoning case had occurred at the inn. I thought the two things might be inextricably linked, so I rushed over to investigate. There's no such coincidence in the world that I actually ran into Han Zi."
After hearing this, Mu Zheng frowned, a look of determination flashing in his eyes. "This matter is of great importance. If it is really as you speculate, I am afraid it will cause unrest in Henan. Now that I, Mu Zheng, know about this, I will definitely not stand idly by. I will help you investigate the case and find the mastermind behind this."
Zhong Hua nodded slightly, his expression filled with relief. "Having Brother Mu's help is naturally great. However, we are still trapped in this woodshed, so we need to find a way out first."
Mu Zheng looked around the woodshed, pointed at the dilapidated window, and said in a low voice, "Let's go out from here. It's quieter and less likely to be noticed."
After saying that, Mu Zheng took the lead and tiptoed to the window. He carefully pushed it open, stuck his head out to check, and after confirming that no one was outside, he nimbly climbed out. The others looked at each other and followed suit and climbed out of the window one after another.
It was late at night, and the inn was completely silent, with only a few dim lights still on, as if it would be swallowed up by the darkness at any moment. Mu Zheng and his companions crouched down and walked along the wall, vigilantly paying attention to the movements around them.
"Let's go to the guest room where the poisoned person is first. Maybe we can find some clues." Zhong Hua suggested softly.
Mu Zheng nodded, and several people quietly moved towards the guest room.
As they reached the door of the guest room, they heard a faint sound coming from inside, as if someone was rummaging through something. Zhong Hua raised his hand to signal everyone to stop. They held their breath and quietly huddled against the wall.
After a while, the sound disappeared, but the door of the guest room was slowly pushed open with a creaky sound, and a dark shadow flashed out from inside.
Zhong Hua was quick-witted and quick-handed. He rushed forward in an effort to catch the black shadow, but the black shadow reacted extremely quickly. It dodged Zhong Hua's capture and ran towards the backyard of the inn.
"Chase!" Mu Zheng shouted, and several people started chasing after him.
The black shadow turned left and right in the yard, and seemed to be quite familiar with the terrain of the inn. It was about to disappear in a remote corner.
Li Lian thought quickly and picked up a stone from the ground and threw it hard at the black shadow, hitting the black shadow's leg right on target.
The black shadow staggered and slowed down. Zhong Hua took the opportunity to pounce on it and pinned it to the ground.
"Tell me! Who are you? Why are you rummaging around here?" Zhong Hua asked sternly.
The shadow struggled a few times, but found he couldn't break free. He snorted coldly and said, "Hmph, you can kill me or cut me up as you please. I won't say a word."
Mu Zheng walked forward, squatted down, and looked carefully at the person in front of him. He saw that he was wearing night clothes and his face was covered with a black cloth. He could not see his features clearly, but he could see a hint of ruthlessness in his eyes.
"Even if you don't want to say it, we still have ways to make you speak. I advise you to cooperate obediently to avoid unnecessary suffering." Mu Zheng's tone was flat, but with unquestionable majesty.
The shadowy figure was silent for a moment, seemingly weighing the pros and cons. Finally, he gritted his teeth and said, "I'm only following orders. I know nothing else. You'd better let me go, or you'll suffer the consequences."
Zhong Hua sneered, "Following orders? Following whose orders? If you don't tell the truth, don't blame us for being rude." As he said that, he increased the strength in his hands, causing the black shadow to groan in pain.
At this moment, there was a sudden noise of footsteps outside the inn, and there was a faint flicker of fire, as if a large number of people were rushing towards the inn.
Seeing this, the shadow's eyes flashed with pride, "Humph, your trouble has come. If you let me go now, maybe I can still spare your lives."
Mu Zheng and others felt nervous, but they were not panicked at all. They looked at each other and decided to find a place to hide first to see who the visitor was before making any plans.
The three of them, escorting the shadowy figure, quickly rushed towards a storage room in the inn, disappearing into the darkness and quietly awaiting this unknown event...
