Chapter 106 Mutated Zombies
Zhang Shi fired a few arrows from time to time, clearing out the zombies that had escaped from the edge of the fire wall. In a short period of time, Zhang Shi's kill count exceeded 200. At this rate, the mission would be completed in no time. Zhang Shi was actually hoping for more zombies.
Just as he was concentrating on shooting a sneak attack, Pipi's rapid barking immediately made Zhang Shi alert.
Following the direction Pipi was staring at, Zhang Shi activated his Dingzhen to check. Sure enough, there was a huge mutant zombie there, also of high rank.
The zombie's height was conservatively estimated to be two and a half meters, with a huge arm as tall as a person hanging down to the ground, helping it walk like a silverback gorilla. Its skin was a strange blue-gray color, looking as if it was coated with a layer of metal paint.
In the still image, the zombie's arm and shoulder joint were highlighted. Similar to the "monkey" he'd seen before, it also had a red tumor. Zhang Shi guessed that this was where the worms were parasitizing, and perhaps the mutant zombie's weak spot.
When the tall zombie saw Zhang Shi on the roof, it rushed towards the gas station like crazy. All obstacles and cover along the way, even its own kind, were swept away by its iron arms.
Like a street sweeper, it quickly cleared a path with brute force. Even when faced with the wall of fire, it continued to charge forward. Perhaps due to its higher rank, the flames instantly ignited it, but it didn't seem to affect its progress. It simply roared at Zhang Shi, who was watching it all indifferently, and then accelerated forward.
After it caused such a disturbance, many zombies in the rear broke out.
Zhang Shi decisively activated his compound bow skill, raining down a hail of arrows centered around the tall figure. The ordinary zombies were engulfed in the rain of arrows, the sharp arrows easily piercing their flesh, turning them into sieves. The tall figure alone remained unmoved by the barrage. The arrows struck its body like steel, clanging and clanging, making it difficult to penetrate its defenses.
Zhang Shi couldn't help but re-evaluate the tall man's defensive ability and began to become serious.
The tall man seemed to be angered by Zhang Shi's attack. With a wave of his giant arm, he easily destroyed the barbed wire in front of him and wanted to continue moving forward.
Zhang Shi did not give it this opportunity. He used instant step to move to Pipi's side, triggering the damage-increasing BUFF. Then he pulled the bowstring with all his strength to trigger a triple attack, and shot the arrow at the tumor on the tall man's shoulder.
The arrow accurately hit the tumor on the tall man's shoulder, piercing it. The tumor was like a balloon filled with water being punctured, suddenly bursting and spurting out streams of milky white pus in all directions.
The tall man seemed to have lost all his strength, and his whole body collapsed to the ground. The entire giant arm was separated from his body at the connection and broke off at the root.
A moment later, just when Zhang Shi thought the tall man was dead, the severed arm suddenly twisted and writhed like a giant python. Its palm split into four petals, opening at an incredible angle like a carnivorous plant, each petal covered with bone spurs that resembled teeth.
At this moment, the arm bit a zombie that broke out, and then like a hungry beast, it swallowed up the zombie's thigh. When it spit out the thigh again, there was no flesh and blood on the whole leg, only white bones.
At the end of the iron arm, a series of connective tissues were rapidly growing. Zhang Shi frowned. This strange creature was completely beyond Zhang Shi's cognition. Zhang Shi switched to a revolver this time, aimed the crosshairs at the iron arm, and fired a six-shot combo.
Six shots rang out, and Iron Arm was reduced to a pile of shredded flesh by the powerful fire. From a distance, Zhang Shi noticed a giant worm, broken in two, tumbling out from the shredded flesh, curled up in a ball, apparently already dead.
To be on the safe side, Zhang Shi shot another arrow at the worm, pinning it to the ground, before stopping.
Seeing the tall man was completely dead, Zhang Shi turned his arrows towards the ordinary zombies swarming in. Suddenly, Pipi let out an urgent growl. Zhang Shi was about to turn around to check when he was hit by a huge force, knocking him to the ground and nearly falling off the roof.
Zhang Shi wiped the place where he was hit and actually pulled up a ball of sticky substance similar to a spider web. When the spider web came into contact with the armor, bursts of white smoke came out, and it seemed to be very corrosive.
Zhang Shi checked the condition of the armor and found no damage. The previous blow only made him fall and did not cause any substantial damage.
Zhang Shi breathed a sigh of relief and then looked behind him.
It turned out the zombie that attacked him was a mutant, similar to the "Monkey." Like a spider, it used its arms and legs to cling to the building behind the gas station. The most obvious difference from the "Monkey" was the location of the red tumor; the "Spider"'s tumor was located on its chest and abdomen.
Zhang Shi quickly adjusted his posture and shot an arrow at the spider.
The spider's crawling posture was just enough to block most of the tumor. Zhang Shi's shooting angle was limited, and the spider's agility seemed to be quite high. It twisted its body and actually dodged the arrow.
Zhang Shi's arrows were quite powerful. They hit the outer wall of the building, shattering the bricks and stones and revealing the concrete inside.
Zhang Shi suddenly had an idea and secretly planned in his mind that he would try to knock down some of the bricks and stones and take them back with him before leaving.
The spider was enraged by Zhang Shi's attack, its cheeks swelled up, and then a ball of white spider web came out of its mouth and shot towards Zhang Shi.
The web flew slowly, and Zhang Shi dodged it easily. Then came a barrage of arrows. Though agile, the spider couldn't escape death. An arrow pierced the tumor on its chest from behind, shattering the parasitic worms within it.
After this little episode, Zhang Shi had gained some understanding of the mutant zombies. From sunrise to sunset, Zhang Shi didn't even have a chance to use his old tricks, relying solely on traps and his bow and arrows to eliminate the entire wave of zombies.
After killing several more mutant zombies, Zhang Shi was only 1000 enemies away from the mission goal of 100 kills.
"A tall guy kills 50 enemies, a spider kills 20, and a monkey kills the least, only 10..."
Zhang Shi packed up his weapons and equipment and returned to the gas station to eat. He calculated the number of kills he had made from the mutant zombies while replenishing his consumed energy.
This zombie eradication operation went extremely smoothly. In just three hours, Zhang Shi was about to achieve his mission goal.
"It's a pity that I've already killed all the zombies in this block. Pipi, let's go to another place to find more zombies to kill."
Zhang Shi threw away the half-eaten piece of bread and took Pipi away from the corpse-strewn street.
