Rebirth and making money first
Chapter 43: Getting Documents and Leaving Home
Because the property transfer requires an ID card, Zhang Jing suddenly realized that her ID card was about to expire. If she didn't replace it in time, she would be in big trouble the next time she came. After hearing this, Ah Mei began to persuade Zhang Jing: "Since that's the case, why not get a new ID card now?" Zhang Jing thought it made sense.
But when she asked the staff, she learned that it would take two weeks to get her ID card, which made Zhang Jing very anxious. After all, she would need it in a few days and she really didn't have time to wait that long! Thinking of this, Zhang Jing backed out and said she would give up. At this time, Ah Mei reminded her that she could also apply for her passport and Hong Kong and Macau pass at the same time, as they would definitely be needed in the future. Zhang Jing thought it made sense and decided to complete all the documents at once.
Accompanied by Ah Mei, Zhang Jing arrived at the Public Security Bureau and saw many people applying for passports and Hong Kong and Macau Passes. The two discussed and decided to apply for these documents together. Since Zhang Jing was in a hurry to leave, she had to ask Ah Mei to pick up her new ID and mail it to her. Zhang Jing would first mail her old ID to Ah Mei and ask her to pick up her new ID and mail her passport and Hong Kong and Macau Pass.
However, things didn't go as smoothly as expected. Zhang Jing's registered residence had changed, making it impossible to apply for an ID card through normal channels. Desperate, Zhang Jing turned to connections and sought help. After much effort, someone finally agreed to help, on the condition that she could keep her old ID card while applying for a new one.
Zhang Jing returned to Shenzhen and then sent her old ID card to Ah Mei by express mail. Ah Mei then waited for her new ID card to arrive as agreed, handed in her old one, and sent it, along with her passport and Hong Kong and Macau Pass, to Zhang Jing in Shenzhen by express mail.
After everything was arranged, Zhang Jing and Ah Mei began to look forward to their future travel plans. They excitedly discussed traveling to Macau, as if they were already in that charming city.
A-Long called, asking when Zhang Jing would be returning. Zhang Jing said it would be a few days, and A-Long urged her to be careful and call him when she got there. Finally, he asked if Zhang Jing had any money left, and she said it was barely enough to get her back. A-Long said he couldn't give her the money right now, but would give her some emergency money when he returned to Shenzhen. The two of them hung up reluctantly.
"Can you get married?" her mother asked. Zhang Jing said, "It's hard!" Her mother was furious. "Then why are you arguing with him?" Zhang Jing replied, "It's like looking for a better partner while you're still married." Her mother shook her head and said, "Don't spend so much money on someone. You won't be able to pay it back later. Do you understand? Your mother won't harm you."
Before leaving, Zhang Jing pulled out three thousand yuan from her bag and handed it to her mother. Her mother quickly waved her hand and refused, "No, I have money to spend. You have no money left and you're giving it back to me?"
Zhang Jing said firmly, "What you have is yours. You're my mother, so take it! Who told you I don't have any money?"
The mother looked helpless and sighed, "Oh, there's really nothing I can do about you. Didn't you call that person and tell him you were running out of money? Okay, okay, I'll keep it."
Zhang Jing suddenly laughed: "You're really good at pretending to eavesdrop on my phone calls, like a seasoned actor."
The mother's eyes widened and she retorted, "Who's pretending? What are you pretending for? Don't talk nonsense."
Zhang Jing teased, "Oh, you're quite good at acting. You almost fooled me. You said you had no money to deceive that man. Don't believe it."
Zhang Jing became serious again: "Mom, I know you've always been good to me, but I'm giving you money this time because I can't be with you, so you must accept this money. It's convenient for you to use it."
The mother was so moved that her eyes became moist, and she choked up and said, "Don't talk too much, I know..."
Zhang Jing held her mother's hand tightly. "Mom, do we really need to be so polite to each other?"
The mother nodded vigorously, her eyes full of happiness and satisfaction.
Zhang Jing took out another 1,000 yuan from her bag and handed it to her mother: "This 1,000 yuan is for you to buy new clothes."
The mother shook her head: "No, I have clothes to wear."
Zhang Jing insisted, "Mom, look at the clothes you're wearing. You've worn them for years. The color has faded, and the underwear is patched. It's time to change them. Don't be so reluctant to part with them."
The mother still refused to take the money: "I'm old, I don't need to wear such nice clothes."
Zhang Jing said anxiously, "Mom, you're only sixty, still young. How can you not dress up? Besides, if you go out wearing beautiful new clothes, others will definitely praise you for being young and beautiful. It will also save our reputation, and your in-laws won't dare to look down on you!"
Zhang Jing's words moved her mother, who hesitated for a moment before accepting the money. "Okay, I'll listen to you and buy some new clothes. But I'll only buy clothes that cost over a hundred yuan. I won't buy anything too expensive."
Zhang Jing smiled and said, "Don't worry, Mom. There are often discounts in the mall now, and you can buy good quality clothes at a very low price. Besides, I also brought you some gifts. Please see if you like them later."
The mother smiled happily: "Okay, I'll listen to you, son. Don't worry about me."
Zhang Jing gently patted her mother's shoulder and said, "Mom, you must take good care of yourself when I'm not around. If you feel unwell or encounter difficulties, please tell me in time. Also, don't lend money to others carelessly, and don't save money and be reluctant to spend it once you have it."
The mother nodded gently. "Well, I understand. You don't have to worry about me. But it's not easy for you to work hard out there alone. You should make sure to rest and don't get too tired."
Zhang Jing smiled and said, "Mom, I will take good care of myself, please don't worry. Now, I have to pack my luggage, otherwise I will miss the bus."
The mother looked at Zhang Jing with pity, her eyes full of reluctance and worry: "Then go quickly, and be careful on the road. After you arrive in Shenzhen, remember to call home to report that you are safe." She gently stroked Zhang Jing's hair, as if she wanted to convey all her love to her.
While busy packing her luggage, Zhang Jing nodded obediently and agreed: "Okay, Mom, I know, don't worry! You should also take care of your health and don't get too tired." She tried to make her voice sound relaxed, but deep in her heart she was full of attachment to her family.
Despite her reluctance, the pressures of life compelled Zhang Jing to embark on this unknown journey. Full of anticipation and longing, she boarded the train to Shenzhen. The train was packed and noisy. Zhang Jing found a relatively quiet corner, sat down, closed her eyes, and tried to relax.
The passengers around her chatted excitedly, their topics varied from work to family, travel to food. Zhang Jing lay quietly on her bunk, listening to their conversation, but her mind had already drifted away. She began to think about the future, imagining how to buy a house in this unfamiliar city and earn enough money to improve her family's living conditions.
"I heard there are a lot of opportunities in Shenzhen. As long as you are willing to work hard, you can make money."
"Yeah, but the competition is pretty fierce. I'm not sure if I can find a good job."
……
Zhang Jing listened silently to the discussion, secretly resolving to persevere no matter the difficulties. After all, this was her only way out. As time passed, the train gradually moved away from her hometown, speeding off into the distance. Zhang Jing's heart was filled with anticipation for the future.
