Rebirth and making money first
Chapter 16 I traded stocks but was lucky
Zhang Jing meticulously crafted her outlines in her free time, then rushed to an internet cafe after get off work to write her stories. She pounded away, assembling each captivating plot point, saving her finished work in a QQ file. She then sent each story to the email addresses of various editors, tailored to their needs. During this process, Zhang Jing was so absorbed in the joy of writing that she forgot whether she would receive any reward.
However, a call from Zhang Zhi disrupted this situation. Zhang Zhi excitedly told Zhang Jing that she was due in just over a month. Her mother had agreed to travel to Guangdong to take care of her, but only after the family dog was about to give birth and had been entrusted to a neighbor's care. Zhang Zhi was furious and complained to her sister, "My husband actually asked me, 'Who's more important, me or the dog?'" Faced with this questioning, Zhang Zhi reluctantly stated that both were living beings and there was no conflict, which calmed the situation.
Zhang Zhi finally felt relieved upon learning her sister had found a job. She warmly invited Zhang Jing to visit her in Huizhou when she had time. Having rented an apartment and quit her job to focus on her pregnancy, Zhang Zhi's life had become somewhat monotonous. She still had many things she needed to buy, and she hoped Zhang Jing would spare some time to accompany her shopping. Zhang Jing readily agreed to return on Friday, arriving back on Sunday evening.
Back at the rental house, the landlord's son's face darkened when he saw Zhang Jing. Zhang Jing knew he was upset, and she wasn't either. He hurriedly told his mother a few words and then left: "Tell her to move out as soon as possible, or it will be inconvenient for me to come back!" He left without even looking back, completely disregarding Zhang Jing's feelings.
Zhang Jing naturally understood the landlord's difficulties, so she took the initiative to inform the old landlord that she planned to move out early, and said that she would complete the move on Saturday. Back in the room, Zhang Jing neatly packed her things, preparing to take some of the things she would not be using with her tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Zhang Jing's previously published articles were beginning to show results. She carefully reviewed them and was pleasantly surprised to discover that her short story about tomatoes was actually generating some income. While not much, it was still 350 yuan. The editor also sent her a reply, encouraging her to keep working on it. A 50-word story typically earned around 100 yuan, with some receiving 150 yuan. Those around words could earn yuan. Zhang Jing thought this model seemed quite feasible; with a little expansion of the -word story, growing it to words shouldn't be a problem.
Zhang Jing was incredibly excited to achieve such success on her first attempt. Plots from various novels she'd pursued in her past life kept resurfacing in her mind. She enthusiastically wrote down everything that interested her, drawing inferences from each, and conceiving two different versions of the same story. For example, a son obsessed with love, refusing to listen to his wealthy mother, who had painstakingly raised him, and instead wanting to marry a young woman; or an ancient prince insisting on marrying a common woman, disregarding the empress dowager and her ministers... Zhang Jing felt that as long as there was a compelling twist that resonated with readers, the story was worth reading.
Time flew by, and Zhang Jing had unknowingly finished writing a large number of story outlines. At that moment, the landlord gently knocked on the door, reminding her that it was time to rest. However, she was still immersed in her work, and paused her pen with a hint of reluctance. She knew that the landlord was concerned about saving electricity, but she also felt a pang of regret for the inconvenience of renting. If she moved out, buying her own computer became a top priority. She had heard that laptops were available, but they would surely be expensive. Even if she chose a used one, she would still need to ask around. Fortunately, her workplace had a computer, which might be useful for writing work for the company. Zhang Jing thought to herself, looking forward to trying to secretly weave her own story tomorrow after work.
Director Chen asked Zhang Jing about the progress of her article with concern. Zhang Jing answered truthfully, "I've already written a draft, but it still needs further revisions. After get off work, I'll go to the Internet cafe to print it out and then submit it to the director for review." Director Chen smiled slightly and kindly reminded, "We have computers in our unit. There are several in the typing room. You can use them at any time. Moreover, these computers have Internet access. If necessary, you can print the manuscript directly here." After that, he led Zhang Jing to the computer room.
Entering the room, Zhang Jing found it empty. Director Chen explained, "Every computer here has internet access, and anyone can use it freely. Come over when you're free." Zhang Jing, overcome with gratitude, thanked him profusely and expressed her desire to move in as soon as possible. The director said she could fulfill this wish as long as she found a suitable guarantor. Zhang Jing readily agreed, promising to handle the matter promptly. This meant she probably wouldn't be able to return to Huizhou this week.
Zhang Jing called A Long and asked him to be a guarantor for Yi. A Long asked Zhang Jing in confusion why she didn't ask relatives to be guarantors. Zhang Jing said it was too troublesome to ask them for help. A Long then asked when she needed him to come over and he could make time to go. Zhang Jing said it would be tomorrow and asked him to dress smartly because she had already praised her boyfriend to her colleagues for being very handsome and hoped he would not lose face. A Long responded confidently: "Am I so bad that you can't show me?"
A-Long's presence caught the attention of everyone at Zhang Jing's workplace. After completing the paperwork, A-Long escorted Zhang Jing out. He jokingly asked if she had embarrassed him, to which Zhang Jing replied with a smile. Then, Zhang Jing told him they would be moving into the dorms that Saturday, each with their own room. A-Long then asked if he could come live with her, but Zhang Jing said, "Probably not, unless we get married." As expected, A-Long changed the subject.
Zhang Jing held out her hand and said, "Honey, please lend me some money quickly to tide me over. I'll pay you back as soon as I get my salary." Ah Long smiled as he opened his wallet and pulled out a wad of bills. He explained that he had just withdrawn 1000 yuan, keeping 200 for himself and giving Zhang Jing 800. He also told Zhang Jing to use it first and to tell him if it wasn't enough. Finally, Ah Long gave Zhang Jing a loving pat on the head, reminding her not to spend recklessly.
Zhang Jing carefully put the money away and nodded with a smile. She was keenly aware of A-Long's inner desire and decided to take action to distract him. So, she asked softly, "A-Long, have you ever traded stocks?"
Aaron frowned, a hint of frustration on his face, and replied, "Well, I tried it before, but I lost a lot. Now I don't dare to get involved easily." As soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly realized that Zhang Jing might also be speculating in the stock market, and hurriedly asked, "Are you also speculating?"
Zhang Jing nodded slightly in agreement. A-Long was immediately worried and advised, "Many people have lost money. Don't take risks! If you lose money, I'm afraid no one will be able to help you!"
Zhang Jing quickly comforted him and said in a relaxed tone: "Don't worry, my luck won't be that bad." After hearing this, Aaron calmed down a little, but he was still worried. He continued to ask Zhang Jing which stock he bought and he wanted to help analyze it.
Zhang Jing was secretly delighted when she saw A-long take out his stock machine, knowing that he had gradually fallen into her trap. She replied casually, "I bought Shenzhen Development."
Aaron couldn't wait to open his stock trading machine to check Shenzhen Development's stock price. Seeing that the stock price had reached 52 yuan, he asked in surprise, "How much did you buy? And at what price?"
Zhang Jing's hesitation made A'long increasingly anxious, but he worried he might scare her, so he could only whisper, "You're too busy to keep an eye on me, so what's wrong with me keeping an eye on you?" Zhang Jing finally relented and told A'long she had bought 2800 shares. Surprised, A'long pressed, "Why so many? And how much did you pay?" Zhang Jing tried to push A'long away, claiming she needed to go to work and that as long as she didn't lose money, there was nothing to worry about. However, A'long held on tightly, insisting she tell him the purchase price. Zhang Jing, looking resigned, finally told A'long she paid yuan per share.
Ah Long was stunned, his eyes gleaming, prompting Zhang Jing to hastily return to work. Ah Long then asked Zhang Jing to wait for his call. Zhang Jing waved him off, then watched as Ah Long lowered his head to work on his phone. Zhang Jing knew she was about to take the bait. This man, in both his past and present lives, had a penchant for money. So, she decided to cater to his preferences, but only to let him watch her earn her fortune.
