I am the Holy Poisoner, the Empress advised me to calm down
Chapter 863 Brother Feng, are you home?
Lin Feng had just returned from the medicinal materials market, holding some rare herbs he had just bought, when he heard a familiar voice at the door.
"Brother Feng, are you home?"
It was Li Mingxuan's voice, but it sounded a lot more formal than usual. Lin Feng put down his things, walked to the door and opened it.
Li Mingxuan stood outside the door, accompanied by a strange man. The man was in his early thirties, wearing a designer suit and gold-rimmed glasses, and exuded an air of arrogance. Upon seeing Lin Feng, he looked him up and down, a hint of disdain evident in his eyes.
"Brother Feng, let me introduce you. This is my friend in the provincial capital. His surname is Wang, Mr. Wang." Li Mingxuan's voice was a little nervous. "He rushed all the way from the provincial capital to see you."
Mr. Wang extended his hand, but his attitude was clearly perfunctory: "I've heard a lot about you. Mingxuan said you're very talented in Traditional Chinese Medicine."
Lin Feng smiled faintly and stretched out his hand to shake his hand: "You're welcome, please come in."
The three of them sat down in the living room, and Li Mingxuan poured tea for them. Mr. Wang picked up the teacup, took a sip, and then put it down with a condescending expression on his face.
"Mr. Lin, I heard from Mingxuan that you're a good doctor, but honestly, in this day and age, traditional Chinese medicine is no longer keeping up with the times." Mr. Wang shook his head. "People like us who work in modern medicine emphasize science, data, and precision. Those things like looking, listening, asking, and feeling are, to put it bluntly, empiricism and lack scientific basis."
Lin Feng still maintained a faint smile, picked up the teacup and took a sip: "Boss Wang is right."
Seeing Lin Feng so calm, Mr. Wang was a little surprised. He originally thought that it would provoke a rebuttal from the other party, but he did not expect Lin Feng to be so calm.
"But then again, some of the things our ancestors left behind do have some value." Mr. Wang changed the subject. "For example, if we encounter some difficult and complicated diseases that Western medicine cannot solve, perhaps Chinese medicine can provide unique insights."
Lin Feng put down his teacup and glanced at Mr. Wang: "Mr. Wang, do you want to say something?"
Li Mingxuan was fidgeting nearby. He could sense the subtle tension between the two and quickly tried to smooth things over: "Um, Mr. Wang, don't you have something you want Brother Feng to help you with?"
Mr. Wang looked at Lin Feng deeply and found that he remained calm and was not angered by his words at all. Instead, he felt a little confused.
"Okay, I'll be frank." Mr. Wang adjusted his sitting position. "My family owns a fairly large private hospital in the provincial capital, and we usually treat a wide range of difficult and complicated illnesses. Recently, we've encountered some... rather unusual situations."
Lin Feng didn't say anything, just waited quietly for him to continue.
"About two weeks ago, the hospital admitted several patients with various illnesses. Logically, given our hospital's technical level, these illnesses shouldn't be a big deal." Mr. Wang frowned, "But something strange happened."
"What's strange?" Lin Feng finally asked.
"Not only did these patients' conditions not improve during their hospitalization, but they actually exhibited some... how should I put it, abnormal behavior." Director Wang's voice deepened. "Some patients suddenly woke up in the middle of the night, claiming to see things that weren't there. Some cried for no apparent reason, saying someone was talking in their ears. Still others suddenly became violent and attacked medical staff."
Li Mingxuan was horrified when he heard this: "This is too weird."
"The most crucial thing," Mr. Wang continued, "is that these symptoms can't be diagnosed using any Western medical method. CT scans, MRIs, and various tests all show normal results. But the patient's mental state is getting worse and worse."
Lin Feng nodded thoughtfully: "Then what?"
"Then rumors started spreading," Mr. Wang said with a wry smile. "Residents nearby started saying our hospital is haunted by a wronged spirit, saying something unclean was dug up when the hospital was built. Now, everyone who visits our hospital has become paranoid."
"How is the hospital business now?" Lin Feng asked.
"Needless to say?" Mr. Wang spread his hands. "The clinic is completely deserted. We used to have hundreds of patients a day, but now we're lucky if we get ten. If this continues, the hospital will go bankrupt."
Lin Feng finally understood Mr. Wang's intentions. No wonder he had acted so superior just now, yet his words were full of hidden meanings. It turned out he was testing him. Now that he saw that he wasn't enraged, but instead remained calm, he had to tell him the truth.
"So Mr. Wang came here today to ask me to take a look?" Lin Feng asked directly.
Mr. Wang nodded. "To be honest, we've already consulted with many experts, including psychologists, neurologists, and even a few so-called Feng Shui masters, but to no avail. Mingxuan said you're amazing, so I came here."
"If I can solve this problem, how will Mr. Wang thank me?" Lin Feng was not polite and directly negotiated the terms.
Mr. Wang was stunned for a moment. He had not expected Lin Feng to be so direct. However, this made him feel more at ease. After all, talking about money was much simpler than discussing mysterious things.
"If you can solve the problem and restore the hospital to normal operation, I can give you a reward of one million." Mr. Wang stretched out a finger.
Lin Feng shook his head: "I'm not interested in money."
Mr. Wang and Li Mingxuan were both stunned.
"Then what do you want?" asked Mr. Wang.
"Let me discuss this after I've reviewed the situation." Lin Feng stood up. "When do we leave?"
"You agreed?" Mr. Wang was a little surprised.
"It's okay to go and take a look." Lin Feng said calmly, "But I have a condition. If I find that the problem is not caused by ghosts or gods, but is man-made, Mr. Wang must cooperate with me to find the truth."
Mr. Wang thought about it and nodded in agreement: "No problem, as long as it can solve the problem."
The next morning, the three of them drove to the provincial capital. Mr. Wang was driving a black Mercedes-Benz, and the drive took about two hours.
On the way, Mr. Wang talked a lot more than yesterday. Maybe he had tested Lin Feng's reaction yesterday, so he felt much more relaxed now.
"Mr. Lin, do you think this kind of thing really happens? Like... ghosts and gods?" Mr. Wang looked at Lin Feng through the rearview mirror.
Lin Feng closed his eyes and leaned back in his chair: "Everything in the world has its own reason. Seemingly mysterious phenomena can often be explained by reasonable explanations."
"Do you mean you don't believe in ghosts?" Li Mingxuan asked curiously.
"I believe in science." Lin Feng opened his eyes. "However, the science that Chinese medicine emphasizes is different from that of Western medicine. We focus more on the holistic concept and the harmony between man and nature."
Mr. Wang nodded. "I understand that. Traditional Chinese Medicine does have its unique characteristics. Although I'm a Western doctor, I still have great respect for Traditional Chinese Medicine."
