Years turn into wind

Chapter 77 Undercurrent

The next morning, Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei gathered several trusted generals and laid out detailed preventative measures against Liu Jingyao's remaining followers. Cheng Yuwei proposed upgrading her detection agent to more effectively monitor enemy activity. Everyone was impressed by her exceptional talent.

However, at this moment, news suddenly came from the mansion: some small shops in the city were destroyed by mysterious people, and many houses were burned down. It was obvious that the enemy intended to create panic in the city in order to undermine the morale of the army.

Ling Xiaotian narrowed his eyes slightly, speaking in a steady tone, "These rats are truly treacherous, using such tactics to disrupt public opinion." He glanced fiercely at the generals and said, "We must quickly stabilize public sentiment and intensify our defenses. We must wipe out these people in one fell swoop!"

Cheng Yuwei stood aside, looking thoughtful, and said softly: "Xiaotian, perhaps we can strike first and do the opposite, turning their tactics against us."

Hearing this, Ling Xiaotian looked at her thoughtfully, with a hint of approval in his eyes: "Yuwei, what do you mean...?"

Cheng Yuwei whispered the plan slowly: they could pretend to be high-level officials in the mansion and pass on false information to lure the enemy into revealing their flaws, and then at the right time, they could cut off the enemy's supply and completely destroy the enemy's plan.

Upon hearing this, Ling Xiaotian smiled appreciatively and nodded slightly, "As expected of you. This strategy is exactly what we need." He turned to look at the generals and gave a solemn order, "Immediately execute Yu Wei's plan. We must proceed steadily and capture the enemy in one fell swoop!"

A few days later, Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian's "luring the enemy" strategy gradually took effect. The enemy took the bait, and Liu Jingyao's remnants began to move frequently in the city, even exposing several important strongholds. Ling Xiaotian quickly commanded his troops and launched a surprise attack overnight, completely destroying the enemy stronghold.

After this ambush, the enemy was severely weakened, Ling Xiaotian's troops' morale was greatly boosted, and the entire city temporarily returned to peace. However, Ling Xiaotian still felt uneasy. He knew that this was just part of the test by Liu Jingyao's remnants, and the true conspiracy had not yet been fully exposed.

Late at night, Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian stood alone in the study, recalling the thrilling battle with a flood of emotion. Cheng Yuwei looked at Ling Xiaotian with a complex expression and said softly, "Xiaotian, you've been working so hard these days. As the commander of an army, the burden you shoulder is beyond ordinary people."

Ling Xiaotian gently held her hand and said slowly, "Yuwei, since I met you, I'm willing to share many things with you. No matter how difficult the road is, as long as you are with me, I have strength."

Cheng Yuwei smiled slightly, moved closer to him, and gently leaned on his shoulder, with a hint of tenderness in her voice: "Xiaotian, we must all live well. When the troubled times subside, I want to accompany you to see the picturesque landscape and spend some truly peaceful time."

Ling Xiaotian felt a surge of warmth in his heart. He looked at her affectionately and said solemnly, "Yuwei, no matter how the future changes, I will protect you and spend the years with you."

Just as the two of them were enjoying the warm atmosphere, there was a sudden knock on the door. They exchanged a glance, and Ling Xiaotian calmed down and said in a deep voice, "Come in."

A deputy general hurried in and reported with a stern expression, "General, several suspicious individuals were spotted outside the palace. They seem to be trying to spy on the situation inside."

Ling Xiaotian's expression froze, and he said coldly, "It seems these remnants haven't given up yet. They even dared to come to the mansion to inquire about the news." He turned to look at Cheng Yuwei and whispered, "Yuwei, I will go and check the situation myself. You stay in the mansion and don't go out easily."

Cheng Yuwei nodded and watched Ling Xiaotian leave with his deputy general, feeling a faint sense of unease. She waited for news in the mansion, unable to calm her inner tension.

A few hours later, Ling Xiaotian finally returned with several guards. His clothes were a little disheveled, as if he had just been through a fierce battle. Seeing him return, Cheng Yuwei hurried forward to check on him and gently asked, "Xiaotian, are you okay?"

Ling Xiaotian shook his head slightly and comforted her, "It's just a minor injury, don't worry. Those people are just minions. We have already captured them all and are holding them in the dungeon."

Cheng Yuwei finally breathed a sigh of relief, but she still looked at him worriedly and whispered, "You always lead by example. I'm really worried about your safety."

Ling Xiaotian smiled slightly, took her hand, and said gently, "Yuwei, as the commander-in-chief, this is my responsibility. I know you are worried about me, but in this chaotic world, only by constantly striving forward can we preserve everything we want to protect."

Cheng Yuwei stared at him and said affectionately: "Xiaotian, I will always be by your side and walk side by side with you. No matter how dangerous the front is, I will not retreat."

Ling Xiaotian's eyes flashed with affection. He gently embraced Cheng Yuwei in his arms and whispered, "Yuwei, having you by my side is my greatest comfort."

At this heartwarming moment, the alarm bell in the mansion suddenly rang, shattering their tranquility. Ling Xiaotian's expression instantly turned stern, and he coldly ordered, "Everyone, follow me to check the situation!"

He and Cheng Yuwei quickly rushed to the front hall, only to see several soldiers escorting a man in black in. The man in black had a defiant look, with a hint of disdain, and seemed to not care about his situation at all.

Ling Xiaotian stared at him coldly and asked in a deep voice, "Who are you? Why did you sneak into my house?"

The man in black sneered, his eyes sinister, and whispered, "Marshal Ling, you only have the upper hand temporarily. Soon, you will see that everything you protect will be destroyed."

Ling Xiaotian's eyes flashed with anger, and he said in a deep voice: "No matter how deep your conspiracy is, I will expose it one by one. Tell your accomplices that their doom is not far away."

The man in black sneered, but said nothing more. Ling Xiaotian ordered his men to take him to the dungeon and to strengthen security in the mansion to prevent the enemy from sneaking in again.

Cheng Yuwei stood beside Ling Xiaotian, watching the man in black being taken away, and whispered, "It seems that the enemy is still lurking. We must be careful."

Ling Xiaotian nodded slightly and said firmly: "Yuwei, don't worry, I won't give these people the chance to hurt you."

Cheng Yuwei's eyes were firm. She gently held his hand and said softly, "Xiaotian, no matter how dangerous the road ahead is, I will always be by your side and never leave you."
