Years turn into wind

Chapter 70: Feelings Revealed

Ling Xiaotian whispered, "Protecting you is something I am willing to do." He lowered his head, his eyes gentle and firm, as if he wanted to imprint her deeply in his heart.

Cheng Yuwei's heart trembled, and she tilted her head slightly and whispered, "But you are a great commander, and you will have many responsibilities in the future. You shouldn't take such risks."

Ling Xiaotian gently held her hand and smiled, "Precisely because I am the commander-in-chief, I must protect the people most important to me. If I can't even protect you, how can I protect the people of the world?"

Cheng Yuwei looked at him, her heart filled with tenderness. She knew Ling Xiaotian was always a decisive and cold man, but only in front of her did he always show a rare tenderness. She sighed softly, raised her hand to smooth over his injured shoulder, and said casually, "Okay, in that case, you have to promise me that you will be more careful in the future."

Ling Xiaotian smiled slightly and nodded solemnly: "Okay, I promise you." The two looked at each other and smiled, as if everything around them suddenly quieted down.

A few days later, Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei's relationship quietly became closer. However, just as they were returning to their peaceful life, they were disrupted by a sudden piece of news.

That day, Ling Xiaotian's adjutant hurried over to report, "General, the enemy's spies have just revealed that there's a mole infiltrating the army within Chaoyang City, and they seem to be planning a new operation to create chaos in our base camp."

Ling Xiaotian's face darkened and he clenched his fists. "It seems Liu Jingyao hasn't given up yet and is plotting something else. Yuwei, we must find this traitor as soon as possible."

Cheng Yuwei nodded and said, "That's right, but the enemy seems very cautious and their infiltration is extremely secretive. Finding this traitor will probably not be easy."

Ling Xiaotian sneered, "No matter how difficult it is, I won't let them succeed." A glint of determination flashed in his eyes, and he immediately ordered his adjutant, "Pass the order down. All soldiers' whereabouts must be carefully investigated. No suspicious individuals must be let off."

That night, Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei patrolled the mansion together, keeping a close eye on every movement. In the dead of night, moonlight streamed through the window lattices onto the ground, adding a touch of solemnity to the mansion.

Suddenly, Cheng Yuwei noticed a guard hurried past, his eyes slightly panicked, as if trying to hide something. With a sudden thought, she gestured for Ling Xiaotian to follow him.

The two of them quietly followed the guard to a secluded corner. Cheng Yuwei silently took out a packet of sleeping pills and quietly sprinkled a small amount of powder in the air. After a while, the guard began to feel drowsy, and it was obvious that the drug had taken effect.

Cheng Yuwei whispered to Ling Xiaotian, "I suspect this person must be related to the traitor. We need to find clues from him."

Ling Xiaotian nodded, stopped the man, and asked coldly, "Who sent you? Tell the truth, or I will show no mercy."

The guard stared at them in horror, but he still clenched his teeth, refusing to give in. Ling Xiaotian snorted coldly and exerted a little force with his hand. The guard's face paled instantly, and he began to utter a few words. He mumbled, "Master... Master has asked us to infiltrate the Marshal's residence... When the time is right, we will act."

Cheng Yuwei listened, her heart tightening: "What do they mean by this action?"

The man refused to speak again, and even chose to bite his tongue to commit suicide under Ling Xiaotian's coercion. The two exchanged glances, becoming even more vigilant. Ling Xiaotian said to Cheng Yuwei with a serious expression, "It seems the enemy's plan this time is far from simple. I'm afraid there are more dangers lurking."

Cheng Yuwei held his hand tightly and whispered, "No matter what, I will stay by your side and face it with you."

The next morning, Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei decided to increase the guards and secretly set up a counter-detection trap. They leaked false intelligence to the enemy in an attempt to lure them out and uncover the true identity of the traitor.

As the days passed, the enemy finally seemed to give up. That night, Ling Xiaotian received information from an informant that a suspicious person in the military camp was indeed trying to pass confidential information. He then ordered Cheng Yuwei to lead a team of soldiers to ambush them quietly.

They held their breath, waiting quietly. Finally, in the dead of night, a dark figure quietly emerged. It was a soldier from the army. He tiptoed over the wall and headed towards the prearranged meeting place.

Cheng Yuwei watched from the shadows, secretly delighted that the traitor had finally revealed himself. With a gentle wave of her hand, she signaled the soldiers to surround him.

Seeing himself surrounded, the shadowy figure suddenly drew his dagger in a desperate attempt to resist, but Ling Xiaotian restrained him with a single palm strike, slamming him to the ground. He coldly declared, "Still trying to resist? Tell me who orchestrated this, or I'll have you face hell!"

The man raised his head in fear and gritted his teeth, "It's useless for you to catch me... The master has already arranged everything. Sooner or later, you will regret it!"

Cheng Yuwei said coldly: "In that case, we won't be polite." She worked together with Ling Xiaotian to take the man back to the Marshal's Mansion for interrogation, digging out all the details of his contact with Liu Jingyao, and completely uncovering the enemy's conspiracy.

After the interrogation, Ling Xiaotian breathed a sigh of relief and looked at Cheng Yuwei with a hint of tenderness in his eyes: "Yuwei, it's great to have you by my side."

Cheng Yuwei smiled slightly and teased, "Xiaotian, I'm just helping you defend your territory. But you always protect me so desperately, which really makes me happy and worried."

Ling Xiaotian chuckled and pulled her into his arms, whispering, "As long as you are here, I have the strength to face any challenge."

Cheng Yuwei snuggled gently in his arms, feeling the warmth brought by his broad shoulders, and silently made a wish in her heart: no matter how many difficulties the future holds, she is willing to stay by his side and face the wind and rain with him.

Just when they thought they could relax briefly, an urgent battle report suddenly came from afar. Ling Xiaotian's face changed slightly, and he quickly unfolded the letter in his hand, discovering that Chaoyang City had suddenly come under attack from the other side.

Ling Xiaotian clenched his fists and said in a deep voice, "It seems that the enemy has come out in full force this time, intending to capture us all in one fell swoop."

Cheng Yuwei's expression was solemn: "The enemy's actions are indeed insidious. Xiaotian, we must go all out to win this battle."

The two looked at each other, their eyes full of determination. Ling Xiaotian took a deep breath, gently held Cheng Yuwei's hand, and said softly, "Don't worry, no matter how difficult it is, I will not let you be in any danger."
