After a brief moment of warmth, Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian still felt the pressure of the impending war gradually approaching. Although they stood together and relied on each other at this moment, everyone knew in their hearts that the real test was far from over.

The next day, Ling Xiaotian received urgent reports from the front lines: Lu Sheng's troops were frequently maneuvering, and tensions were once again rising along the border. Ling Xiaotian immediately ordered his troops to heighten their vigilance, while Cheng Yuwei devoted herself to improving her weapons and keeping a close eye on the battle. Though she appeared calm, she could not fully reconcile herself to the presence of Lu Zhirou and the potential danger she faced.

That day, Ling Xiaotian left the Marshal's Mansion with several trusted generals and personally headed to the border to deploy defenses. Cheng Yuwei knew this operation was crucial; if war broke out, victory or defeat might depend on this deployment. However, just as Ling Xiaotian left, a "special invitation" arrived from the mansion.

Cheng Yuwei looked at the invitation in her hand. There was a line of eye-catching words written on it: "Ms. Lu invites Miss Cheng to her house for a gathering tonight. There is no other intention. I hope Miss Cheng will do me the honor." The signature was indeed Lu Zhirou.

Cheng Yuwei suddenly felt suspicious. Lu Zhirou was clearly provoking her, but the invitation didn't betray any hostility, making it hard to refuse. After careful consideration, Cheng Yuwei finally decided to go. She needed to see for herself what Lu Zhirou was up to.

As night fell, Cheng Yuwei and a guard went to Lu Zhirou's villa. The villa was decorated in a magnificent style, in stark contrast to the simple and solemn style of the Marshal's Mansion. As soon as Cheng Yuwei entered, she felt the luxury and publicity here.

Lu Zhirou had been waiting in the hall for a long time. Seeing Cheng Yuwei coming, she smiled and looked meaningfully: "Miss Cheng is really straightforward. I thought you wouldn't come."

Cheng Yuwei smiled slightly and remained calm: "How dare I not come to Miss Lu's invitation."

The two of them appeared calm and composed, but in reality, they each had their own thoughts. Lu Zhirou personally poured a cup of tea for Cheng Yuwei, a hint of provocation flashing in her eyes: "I heard that you have been with Marshal Ling for quite some time. I believe you know him very well."

Cheng Yuwei looked up at her and said softly, "Understand a little. After all, we have been through a lot together."

"Yes, having been through thick and thin together, naturally our bond is deep." Lu Zhirou smiled, but a hint of coldness lingered in her eyes. "However, did you know that although Ling Xiaotian is cold, he still cherishes some old feelings?"

Cheng Yuwei's heart tightened. Lu Zhirou was clearly still mentioning the past marriage. Cheng Yuwei knew she shouldn't fall into Lu Zhirou's trap, so she responded calmly, "Everyone has a past, but what matters is his current choice."

Lu Zhirou's smile froze slightly, and a hint of displeasure flashed in her eyes. "Ms. Cheng is indeed a smart person." She changed the subject, her eyes becoming more pointed. "However, I must warn you that Ling Xiaotian's mind is not as simple as you think. Do you really think he would give up everything for you?"

Cheng Yuwei's heart tightened. Just as she was about to fight back, she heard a burst of hurried footsteps outside. Then, a servant ran in in a panic and whispered, "Miss, there's news from the front line. The border has been suddenly attacked by the enemy!"

This sudden news shocked Lu Zhirou and Cheng Yuwei. Cheng Yuwei didn't bother to deal with Lu Zhirou anymore and immediately stood up to leave and rushed back to the Marshal's Mansion.

"It seems that this party has to end here." Cheng Yuwei said coldly, nodded at Lu Zhirou, and turned to leave.

Cheng Yuwei hurried back to the Marshal's Mansion and found it in chaos. Battle reports from the front were pouring in like snowflakes, and Ling Xiaotian was directing the operations. Clearly, the fighting had come more suddenly than they had anticipated.

"The enemy's sudden mobilization is obviously another surprise attack by Lu Sheng." The adjutant anxiously reported the situation to Cheng Yuwei.

Cheng Yuwei calmed down and quickly thought of a solution: "We need to support the front line as soon as possible and ensure the correct supply of ammunition. I will go check the ammunition depot."

Cheng Yuwei knew that the enemy would not only launch attacks on the battlefield, but they might also use other means, such as sabotaging military supplies, to weaken Ling Xiaotian's defenses. She had to personally ensure the safety of these critical supplies.

When she arrived at the ammunition depot, she was surprised to find the guards looking nervous, as if awaiting instructions. Cheng Yuwei became suspicious and requested a thorough inspection of all the equipment in the depot. Sure enough, she discovered several explosive devices hidden in an obscure corner that didn't belong to the military.

"What's going on?" Cheng Yuwei asked coldly.

The guards were clearly not expecting Cheng Yuwei to come in person, and their expressions became flustered. Just as they were about to speak, Cheng Yuwei suddenly heard a familiar voice: "It seems you're still one step ahead of me."

She turned around suddenly and saw Ling Xiaotian standing at the door, looking at the guards coldly, obviously having seen through their disguise.

"These guards are all traitors." Ling Xiaotian said in a cold tone. He obviously had a grasp of the situation.

Cheng Yuwei was shocked. She never expected that the enemy had infiltrated the core of the army and attempted to destroy their ammunition depot with explosives.

Ling Xiaotian ordered coldly, "Capture all these people and interrogate them strictly."

Although this sudden battle was urgent, the enemy's surprise attack was ultimately thwarted thanks to the timely response of Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei. However, this victory did not allow them to completely relax, but instead made them even more vigilant. The enemy's actions were becoming increasingly covert, and the presence of a traitor meant they were constantly in danger of being observed.

At night, the war came to a temporary halt. Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei stood on the terrace of the Marshal's Mansion, overlooking the streets in the city that were still brightly lit.

"Tonight's surprise attack was a test by Lu Sheng. There will only be bigger moves next." Ling Xiaotian's tone was heavy, and he was obviously not optimistic about the situation to come.

Cheng Yuwei nodded, her eyes calm. "We have made some preparations, but we must be even more cautious. The enemies lurking within us are the most dangerous."

Ling Xiaotian glanced at her, then suddenly held her hand. His voice was low but full of determination: "No matter what happens, I have confidence with you by my side."

Cheng Yuwei felt warm in her heart. She turned to look at him and smiled slightly: "I believe in you too. We will get through these difficulties together."

The two snuggled together, enjoying this brief peace, but they both knew that the storm had not yet completely subsided, and the real test might have just begun.

However, Lu Zhirou and Lu Sheng continued to plot in the shadows. They hadn't given up completely, knowing full well that Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian's relationship was their greatest weakness. Seizing upon this defeat, Lu Zhirou began to hatch an even more ruthless scheme, aiming to emotionally destroy Cheng Yuwei's trust and destabilize Ling Xiaotian's resolve.

The shadow of war looms again, but Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei still don't realize that the conspiracy is gradually approaching.
