Time Travel: Ancient Martial Arts Chronicles
Chapter 127 The aftermath is not over yet, a new situation is about to begin
The cheers of the Mid-Autumn Festival victory still seemed to echo lingering over the Wulin Alliance, but the lingering sound of celebration could not mask the deep-seated worries within the ranks. Every inch of the air within the alliance seemed to linger with the chilling atmosphere of fierce battle. Even though the sun poured down without reservation, it could not dispel the looming gloom.
On the martial arts field, Su Yao, clad in a white robe as white as snow, her long black hair tied up, spun with agility. The Emei sword in her hand shone like a dragon emerging from the sea, its blade shimmering with a shimmering blast. Every sharp unsheathing strike sent a whistling gust of wind through the air. Ye Wuhen, his azure robe fluttering, stood in the middle. His Tai Chi sword, like a nimble ink brush, traced smooth, continuous arcs through the air. Each move exemplified the interplay of yin and yang, the subtle power of softness overcoming hardness. The gentle breeze of his sword, like a gentle spring breeze, held a hidden power, capable of silently dissipating immense force. Tang Ying, nimble and agile like a cheetah in the night, darted and dart-shaped, darting with impulsive precision, piercing the wooden stakes of the martial arts field with a piercing throttle. Each strike was accompanied by a whistling sound, as swift as a meteor chasing the moon. Lin Xiaoxiao was like a nimble elf, as light as a swallow, the dagger in her hand flashing a cold light in the sunlight. She shuttled between the imaginary enemies, relying on her extremely keen insight to find opportunities and move. Her sharp eyes seemed to be able to see through all the flaws. At the slightest opportunity, the dagger would spit out like a poisonous snake, going straight for the vital point.
Though they were training furiously, a solemn expression etched between their brows and in their eyes. Su Yao sheathed her Emei Sword with a crisp sound, breaking the momentary silence. "We may have won the Mid-Autumn Festival battle, but you all saw that the evil forces were merely taking a break. Their ambitions remain undaunted, and their ruthless tactics are endless. I'm afraid there will be no peace in the days ahead." She raised her gaze to the clouds drifting across the horizon, as if seeking some peace in the clear blue sky. Instead, she saw only the clouds rolling and unrolling, ever-changing, just like the ever-changing situation in the martial arts world.
Ye Wuhen lightly shook the sword, and the tassel hanging on the Tai Chi sword swayed slowly. He nodded slightly, and a cold light flashed in his gentle eyes: "Su Yao is right. They seemed to have suffered heavy losses in that battle, but in fact, they were secretly colluding with the forces outside the Great Wall and became increasingly close. We only cut off one of their arms, but the foundation is intact. I'm afraid they are holding back their strength and planning an even more dangerous counterattack."
As they were talking, a servant came hurriedly, bowed and said anxiously: "My dear heroes, the leader invites you to discuss important matters." They looked at each other and knew that there might be new changes in the situation. Without any delay, they quickly followed the servant to the meeting hall.
Entering the hall, the leader stood with his hands behind his back. Several secret letters lay spread out on a large desk before him, his expression as gloomy as the sky before a storm. Seeing them arrive, the leader raised his hand and motioned them closer. He said in a deep voice, "I've summoned you all because of an emergency. After the Mid-Autumn Battle, the martial arts world hasn't been as peaceful as we hoped. Instead, undercurrents are surging, and the situation is becoming increasingly turbulent." He gestured to the secret letters on the table. "According to recent reports from our spies, the remnants of the evil Holy Cult have been in frequent contact with mysterious organizations beyond the Great Wall. Messengers are constantly coming and going, and their secret meeting places are hard to find. Judging from their actions, they're undoubtedly plotting a devastating conspiracy, attempting to turn our martial arts world upside down so they can reap the benefits."
Tang Ying stepped forward, picked up a secret letter, and quickly glanced at it. His brows knitted into the shape of a "川" character, and he said bitterly, "These thieves are really ruthless! Not only that, but several remote sects have been attacked in recent days with extremely brutal methods. The sects' treasured secret manuals have been looted, and countless elite disciples have been killed or injured. In my opinion, this is probably a preliminary test to test our bottom line and lay the groundwork for the next large-scale action."
Lin Xiaoxiao's face flushed with anger. She clutched the dagger so tightly in her hand that the scabbard had turned slightly white. "How can we allow them to do this? We must take the initiative, find their lair, and eradicate these cancers. Otherwise, there will be no peace in the martial arts world!"
Su Yao patted Lin Xiaoxiao's shoulder to comfort her, then looked up at the leader with a firm expression: "Xiaoxiao is right, but now they are hiding too deep, and all their previous traces are gone. It will be extremely difficult to find their exact location, and we have to think of a comprehensive solution."
Upon hearing this, the leader's expression eased slightly. He slowly pulled an ancient parchment scroll from his sleeve and solemnly unfolded it with both hands. The parchment was dark in color, bearing the marks of time. Densely inscribed with obscure symbols and winding paths, it resembled an ancient map leading to a mysterious and unknown land. "Everyone, this is a legacy left by our ancestors. Rumor has it that it marks several hidden locations, perhaps containing peerless skills to subdue evil, or allowing one to penetrate the enemy and locate the vital points of the evil forces. However, for many years, no one has been able to decipher its deeper meaning. Now that the world is perilous, you, with your exceptional intelligence, formidable martial arts skills, and growing experience in the martial arts world, might give it a try to uncover the truth. If you can uncover its secrets, we will gain the upper hand and turn the tide."
Su Yao and the others gathered around, their gaze fixed on the scroll. Its intricate, maze-like lines and strange, indecipherable symbols seemed like invisible hands, pulling them deeper into the mystery. Yet, fear escaped their gaze; instead, their fighting spirit ignited, like a bonfire in the dark night, growing ever brighter. Without further delay, they hurried back to their rooms, packed their bags, stocked up on food and water, and carefully checked their weapons to ensure they were in good condition. Then, disguising themselves as ordinary merchants, they quietly exited the Wulin Alliance, following the seemingly inconspicuous clues in the scroll and embarking on a journey filled with unknowns.
We slept in the open air, under the stars and moonlight. At first, the journey was smooth, following the official road, flanked by lush forests, birds flying about, and occasional curls of smoke rising from farmhouses, revealing a sense of the tranquility of everyday life. But as we advanced, the clues became increasingly blurred, the path becoming increasingly desolate, until we entered a deep canyon.
The canyon resembled a hideous gash, a rip in the earth. The cliffs on either side soared into the clouds, as sheer as if chopped by a knife or an axe. Jagged rocks jutted from above, resembling cranes stretching their necks to cry out, or tigers crouching and roaring. Amidst the swirling mist, they seemed alive, exuding a sense of eerie eeriness. The valley was thick with fog, as dense as unmelted milk. Beyond five steps, it was impossible to distinguish between human and animal. Every step felt like stepping into an endless abyss. Strange rocks jutted beneath, and a careless step could easily lead to a twisted ankle and a fall.
Su Yao, wielding her Emei sword, led the way, her blade slicing through thorny vines and slicing through the dense fog. The rustling sound echoed far into the silent canyon, startling several night birds from their nests, sending them fluttering off and adding to the tense atmosphere. Ye Wuhen followed closely on her flank, his Tai Chi sword held across his chest, its blade gleaming coldly. He energized his inner strength, constantly alert to any movement. At the slightest sign of trouble, he could instantly unleash a sword move, leveraging the enemy's force to repel the incoming foe. Tang Ying brought up the rear, his figure veiled in the dense fog and shadows of the strange rocks. His eyes, like those of a night owl, were incredibly sharp, and he held a hidden weapon at the ready, its cold light flickering in the mist, ready to strike a fatal blow at the slightest movement. Lin Xiaoxiao, with her small and light body, jumped and moved among the boulders. Sometimes she climbed up to look, trying to find a path, and sometimes she bent down to look carefully to see if there were any special marks. Her agile appearance was just like a nimble deer in the mountains, still calm and at ease in dangerous places.
They walked for an unknown amount of time, but just as their legs and feet ached and their internal energy was depleted, they finally reached the valley floor. The valley floor suddenly opened up, but it was filled with a foul odor and overgrown with weeds. In the center stood an ancient cave, like the gaping maw of a prehistoric beast. Its entrance was engraved with strange runes, like the eyes of an ancient deity, silently gazing down upon the intruder, exuding a mysterious and oppressive aura.
Su Yao took a deep breath, sword drawn, and stepped into the cave first. The cave was so deep and endless that it seemed to have no end. A faint light flickered on the walls, a kind of phosphorescent fire clinging to the air, swaying with the air stirred by the footsteps, like a ghostly will-o'-the-wisp. The walls were covered with murals, their colors mottled but still legible, depicting scenes of the tragic struggles between good and evil in the past. Every move was so vivid that it seemed as if one could hear the sound of war. Further ahead, there were deconstructions of mysterious martial arts techniques, their lines flowing and seemingly containing endless martial arts secrets.
The group was so engrossed in the sight that they had unknowingly entered the cave. At the far end, a stone platform stood quietly, upon which rested a simple wooden box. The box was intricately carved, exuding a sense of ancient weight. Su Yao stepped forward and reached out to take the box. The moment her fingertips touched it, several streams of black smoke suddenly erupted from the surroundings. The smoke, as if alive, quickly condensed in mid-air into a humanoid form, its fangs bared, its face twisted and terrifying, and with a biting chill, it rushed towards the group with a howling sound.
Su Yao reacted extremely quickly, unsheathing her Emei sword in an instant. A flash of cold light flashed, and the sword move "Pear Blossom Rain" poured out, each sword move sharp and stabbing at the smoke monster. Ye Wuhen followed closely behind, his Tai Chi sword drawing layers of sword arcs, defending tightly, and neutralizing the attacks directed at Su Yao and her companions behind him one by one. The sword blades collided with the smoke, making a "sizzling" sound, just like hot oil in a wok. Tang Ying's figure flashed, and hidden weapons were shot out like raindrops, aiming for the smoke monster's vital parts. The darts penetrated his body, and the smoke seemed to be solid, causing him to scream in pain. Lin Xiaoxiao seized the opportunity, holding a dagger, and circled behind the enemy. Taking advantage of the smoke monster's gaps to avoid hidden weapons and sword moves, he stabbed with the dagger fiercely, each strike was extremely precise, striving to defeat the enemy.
After a bitter battle, their internal energy was nearly exhausted, their clothes drenched with sweat. Fortunately, the strange mist was finally dispelled, vanishing into thin air. Su Yao breathed a sigh of relief, wiping the sweat from her forehead. She looked at the wooden box on the stone platform, her eyes filled with determination. She reached out and opened the box, revealing a yellowed ancient tome. The pages flipped, the scent of aged ink permeating the pages. The handwriting was ancient and vigorous, detailing numerous secrets to countering the demonic cult's techniques. Every move was exquisitely crafted, as if opening the door to a new world of martial arts. There was also a fragment of a map, though the edges were torn, the marked locations were clearly discernible, indicating the suspected location of the new lair of the evil cult.
Su Yao and the others exchanged smiles, their smiles tinged with fatigue, relief, and, above all, a rekindled fighting spirit. Without delay, they carefully stowed the ancient tome and the fragmented map, then, with their light-energy skills, raced back to the Wulin Alliance like streaks of black lightning. At that moment, the Wulin Alliance was ablaze with lights, and everyone gathered. A new strategy and counterattack quietly unfolded. The Jianghu was once again turbulent, like a re-opened chess game, where every move hinged on life and death. Su Yao and the others were undoubtedly the masters, determined to set the course for justice and restore order to the Jianghu.
