Dreaming back to 1949, the great powers were there to deceive us

Chapter 479 If the idea is not bold, when will it be bold?

Once the artillery fires, it is difficult not to expose the position.

After being bombarded by a round of artillery fire, Xie Zhiyu immediately moved the cannon forward and fought back resolutely!

For a whole day, artillery shells kept interweaving in the sky. As soon as you finished firing, I came on the scene, and as soon as I finished firing, you fired back.

When it got dark, the artillery fire between the two sides stopped!

It was dark night, and everything was silent. But the two sides were still busy and tense.

At the Panlongshan Underground Research Center, dozens of researchers from the Jiuzhou Electronics Factory were having a heated discussion over a radar circuit diagram. They were going to study artillery reconnaissance and positioning radar.

Radar technology at that time was not advanced enough and was mainly used to detect and track larger targets such as aircraft. For targets such as artillery shells, which are small in size, fast in speed and have short flight time, its detection and tracking capabilities are limited, making it difficult to accurately detect the trajectory of the artillery shells.

The earliest artillery reconnaissance and positioning radar in history was developed by the United States around the 20s and was not put into actual combat until the Vietnam War.

The biggest difficulty in studying artillery reconnaissance and positioning radar is capturing the trajectory of the artillery shells.

To achieve this goal, researchers installed six radars on the commanding heights of several hills around Panlong. These radars operate 24 hours a day to capture the trajectory of artillery shells from different directions.

Their work was fruitful. Thanks to the tens of thousands of artillery shells fired by both sides today, scientific researchers obtained a large amount of ballistic data.

The researchers used the SCR-270 radar, which has an operating frequency of 100 MHz, a peak power of 100 kW, a PRF of 621 Hz, a pulse length of 10-25 us, and a scanning time of approximately 1 millisecond to several milliseconds.

The SCR-270 radar is very famous and made great contributions to the United States in World War II. As the main long-range radar of the U.S. Army during World War II, it was deployed in military bases around the world, such as Hawaii, the Philippines, Midway Island, Newfoundland, etc., for early warning and reconnaissance of enemy aircraft, buying time for air defense preparation.

Deployed in some coastal areas, the SCR-270 radar is also used to monitor enemy ships, aircraft and other targets, provide intelligence support for coastal defense, and protect the security of important ports, naval bases and other facilities.

The prototype radar obtained by Jiuzhou Electronics Factory came from Miaoer Mountain in Jinling, where there used to be a radar research institute of the reactionaries. After the liberation of Jinling, it was taken over by the People's Liberation Army.

The six radars around Panlong Mountain are all imitations. The electron tubes in them have been replaced with transistors with better performance. Therefore, the radars are smaller in size and more stable in operation.

The reason why so much effort was spent on researching artillery reconnaissance and positioning radar was also for the Korean Peninsula War.

Whether in terms of national strength or logistics, we cannot compare with the United States. The opponent may have Van Fleet's ammunition, but we can't.

Therefore, we must take an unconventional approach.

You provide firepower coverage, and I will provide precise strikes!

……

At the Jitoushan Command Center, Xie Zhiyu's eyes were bloodshot as he stared blankly at a map with a line clearly marked on it: Danyang Expressway.

He stayed at one station for more than half an hour.

In fact, what Hu Zhenhua wanted to build more was the Daguan Expressway, but the place of Daqing could not be exposed now, otherwise there might be variables when negotiating with the big brother to recover the rights and interests in the Northeast.

Suddenly, a signalman shouted,

"Report, forward reconnaissance has discovered that the 37th Division in front of us has disbanded its camp and is moving south. Their purpose is unknown!"

Xie Zhiyu frowned and quickly looked at another small-scale map.

Chief of Staff Wu Heng understood what Lao Xie meant and immediately said,

"Three days ago, the enemy's 38th and 39th Armies of the Western Route Army set out from Wugang and Dongkou, attacking the Nationalist 17th Corps in Tongdao and Jingxian, marking the beginning of the Yunnan Campaign. The 37th Division's move south at this time is likely intended to cut off the Guangxi clique's escape route to the Leizhou Peninsula."

Xie Zhiyu nodded slightly and said,

"Perhaps it's not just the 37th Division, I'm afraid the entire Fourth Corps will have to move south."

Xie Zhiyu turned his head and ordered the signalman,

"Send out all the people and keep a close eye on the Fourth Corps' movements!"

"Yes!"

Xie Zhiyu thought for a moment and asked,

"How is our armored battalion's training? Can it launch an assault?"

Xie Zhiyu's armored battalion is equivalent to other people's armored regiments.

Staff Officer Xu immediately replied,

"Absolutely impossible! They've only been training for a few days. During the operation yesterday evening, we lost over 20 armored vehicles. After investigation, we found that they must have gotten lost and been captured by the enemy!"

When Xie Zhiyu heard this, he became furious and cursed,

"I was wondering why I didn't see those vomiting soldiers on the way back! Weren't we told to wait where they were? Why were they moving around?"

Staff Officer Xu quickly looked at Chief of Staff Wu Heng, hoping he could help him say a few words. The latter had no choice but to speak.

"Commander, calm down. Although they have caused trouble, their morale is commendable! They are clearly vomiting all over the place, but they still want to follow you to achieve great things. The morale of the army can be used!"

After hearing this, Xie Zhiyu's expression softened a little, but his tone remained stern. He shouted,

"It is a soldier's duty to obey orders! I told them to defend where they are, and they should defend where they are. How could they move around? If this happens again, the military commander will bring them to justice! This time, the armored battalion is being warned!"

"Yes! I will personally meet with Captain Qiu!"

Foster saw Xie Zhiyu standing in front of the map in a daze again, and walked up to him and asked in a low voice,

"Wasn't the 37th Division headquarters destroyed? How could they still move south?"

Chief of Staff Wu Heng also stared at the map without raising his head and said lightly,

"The Secret Service sent us intelligence that the enemy's Fourth Corps held a combat meeting yesterday afternoon. Therefore, the 37th Division Commander Zhou Xueyi was not at the headquarters during the bombardment. They are heading south now, probably hoping to refute our plan to kill the general with concrete action."

Foster suddenly realized,

"I see!"

Xie Zhiyu was not affected by their conversation at all and continued to stare at the north-south artery.

After a long time, he suddenly picked up a pencil and drew an arrow on the map. The starting point of the arrow was Bao'an County, and the end point was Danyang Expressway!

Foster suddenly thought of something, his brows twitched, and regardless of his status, he pulled Xie Zhiyu aside. Even though the latter was very angry, he didn't care, and asked in a low voice,

"General Xie, are you planning to use this route to launch a counterattack?"

Xie Zhiyu's face showed astonishment, but he quickly returned to normal and said calmly,

"It's just a wild idea, it may not be feasible!"

Foster looked back at the people in the command center and felt relieved to see that everything was normal. Edward wanted to come over, but Foster shook his head to stop him.

"Xie General, if you're not bold when you envision it, then when will you be bold?"

Xie Zhiyu felt that Foster's words made a lot of sense. A slight arc appeared at the corner of his mouth, and he said,

"There are two gas stations every 15 kilometers on this highway. If there is sufficient fuel, the armored troops can be replenished. The entire journey from Guangzhou to Wuhan is about 900 kilometers. A Sherman tank can travel at 30 to 40 kilometers per hour on a flat road. If it does not stop for a moment, it can reach the Yangtze River in 30 hours."
